We are extremely pleased with Temperus. Our heating went out during the recent weather extreme. They came right away to provide diagnosis, ordered part, and came back timely to install part.
-
Their sedrvice representative responded and determined the issue to be the blower motor and the time it would take to receive the part and install. Also recommended cleaning the blades. Notified us the part was received and schedule to install the blower motor the next day. Came out, cleaned the fan blades and installed the blower motor. We have heat again. Thank you!

My dad (Robert) needed his routine fall maintenance done. We scheduled Craig to come out to service his unit. Craig found a few issues during the visit. My dad’s inside air handler flue pipe leaking, the outdoor units wire was run incorrectly by a previous technician, and condenser coils was clogged with grass & dirt. Craig explained what was needed to make his unit run properly and to help with the life span of unit. After he was finished he explained throughly what he had done. Thank you Craig for caring and taking care of my dad!

Very reasonable price, fast and easy. Please thank Kimberly Hartke for closed business as a BNI member for recommending you. Please let me know what an annual maintenance would cost on this unit. Keith Hartke

If you’re looking for honest, reliable, and knowledgeable technicians, look no further. Joe and Craig are an awesome team. I needed my water heater replaced, but kept getting outrageous estimates from other companies. While shopping around, I was referred to Temperus and the reviews were spot on. They gave me a fair price for the job, completed the install in a few hours and educated me throughout the whole process. I will definitely be using these guys for my hvac needs.

Temperus Installed a new HVAC system in my condo. They did an outstanding job. They never took shortcuts and kept me informed with everything they were doing. They insured all wiring was covered and not left open on the roof and they installed the Condenser without the use of a crane, which is a first for my condo association. I highly recommend Temperus for any and all your HVAC needs. They truly are the best and their prices are fair.

Craig was very professional and did an excellent job of explaining the details of the work we need to repair our heating issue and also gave us recommendations for future services. Hubby and l were very impressed with the wisdom and knowledge he shared when diagnosing our heating issue. We had United Air Temp to come and all they wanted to do is upsale us on a brand new heating system. We have a monthly service plan with them for 7 yrs now. They never got to the root of the problem. But Craig from Temperus Heating/Cooling came out one today and diagnosed our issue and he did not try to sell us any unnecessary products or services. We have called to cancel our service plan with United Air Temp. And will join the Temperus. Thank you taking the time on a Saturday when you office is closed to accommodate our needs. Excellent Excellent Excellent customer service.

We had a service check up today. The service was very thorough. I was very pleased with Craig professionalism and the service he provided today. He was very knowledgeable and took his time explaining what he was doing and what we needed. Joe and his team are amazing. You can’t go wrong which them.

The technician that came to service my furnace was both polite and punctual. He came to my residence and went straight to work making sure to install everything properly and cleaning up after himself. He was also very timely with the diagnosis, ordering the parts, and then returning to install. Did I mention he came on a Saturday to diagnose and give a temporary fix until the parts came on Wednesday?!

Temperus shines over and over. They replaced my HVAC system, to perfection, two years ago and there have been a few issues due to the hard water in my area (so, not their fault). They have come out to fix it and install solutions at no charge twice now. They stand behind their work and treat their customers like family.
I also had their plumber replace a bathroom faucet, and it was extra tricky. They ended up having to replace extra parts, and so it took a little longer - well into the evening. He clearly really cares about getting the job done correctly. -
Craig from the Temperus team was great. This is the second time he performed work at my house and brought professionalism and expertise with both visits. I would highly recommend Temperus and would recommend requesting Craig to support your requirement. Cheers to a job well done! 👍🏻

A very bad experience. I don't doubt his experience working with air conditioning, but what surprises me is his way of interpreting things. My nephew was cleaning and moving things around,so he could do his job. Unfortunately he misunderstood my nephew’s actions and assumed he was trying to repair the unit. My nephew wasn’t able to communicate to the technician since he doesn’t speak English.
But in the frustration of not understanding my nephew, he became impatient. According to his report, he claims that we interfered with his work and that he didn't complete what he had to do because we were working on the unit. but that's false; we never touched anything. Now, my insurance company is refusing to repair the unit because of this misunderstanding. This seems like a great company but unfortunately I didn’t get a great experience. The lack of patience and communication from the technician has caused me to pay thousands of dollars for a repair that could’ve been covered by my insurance. -
We woke up on a Saturday morning to a chilly house, and having zero HVAC experience we knew we had to bring in an expert on short notice. Enter Temperus Heating and Cooling. They arrived within a couple of hours and swiftly resolved our issue. The technician, Joe, was extremely professional and charged us a fair rate for the repair. We are major DIYers but you have to know where to draw the line, and we are so grateful to have found Temperus and now know who to call if we have any future issues. Thanks for the speedy assistance!

Temperus installed a new heating system after the extreme cold weather knocked it out. The system was old and was due for a replacement and the Temperus team was very helpful in making that happen quickly. Each team member was courteous and skilled. They did a fantastic job and I am happy with their work!

TLDR: These guys have predatory pricing and will absolutely rob you blind.
Our A/C stopped working in July with temps upwards of 95 degrees. McCarthy had installed our HVAC about 7 years ago, so we called them to figure out the issue. They sent someone else the same day to figure out the issue. He diagnosed a whole bunch of issues, including a gas leak, and said the “quick fix” would cost us in the neighborhood of $2,500. He was not able to fix the issue, and his colleague came out the next day. Tip: never trust the guys who come out with the iPad - they run on commission and are only there to make sales. He (or course) said our best bet would be to replace the HVAC unit and quoted us $14,000. He said if we went with the “quick fix” it would take longer and oh, actually it would cost $4,500, not $2,500 that his colleague quoted the day before. Thank god we got a second opinion, because the HVAC company that WASN’T trying to fleece us fixed the problem the same day for the whopping total of…$450 including parts and labor. The company we went with also said the gas leak was bogus.
STAY AWAY FROM MCCARTHY! They are completely unethical, paid by commission, and only in it to upsell you unnecessarily as much as possible. We have an infant, and I truly believe they tried to pray on our desperation during a heat wave to get us to pay as much as possible. -

McCarthy has since contacted and resolved issue very professionally.
Over the past twelve years McCarthy has installed two HVAC systems and provided numerous annual tune-ups.
Up until this last tune-up service I had been very pleased with the service provided by McCarthy, but this last encounter left me very disappointed.
When the technician arrived, he proceeded to the outdoor unit and visually inspected the unit, tightening a couple of screws to address vibration noise and then advised me not to have the refrigerant levels checked because that process would let refrigerants escape and cause problems.
He then proceeded to the inside unit and opened the door to the air filter. Without inspecting the filter, he proceeded to explain that the 4-inch filter system (installed by McCarthy) was problematic as it restricted airflow.
He then launched into a sales pitch for an electrostatic air filter. After listening for a while I told him I was not interested and asked him if he had finished with the interior unit and he responded that he was. He had not checked the unit temperature, airflow level or check for loose wires or thermostat accuracy or any other services listed on the attached coupon.
I then asked him about cleaning the outdoor unit as noted on your coupon (copy attached). He indicated that it would be a couple of hundred dollars more and not covered by the coupon offer, even though the service was listed. He then asked me to pay the $49 for the “service” which I refused as I felt no service was rendered and the visit was a pretense for a sales pitch for the electrostatic air filter.
As I have observed many tune-ups in the past, I find it hard to include this service encounter as a tune-up and will not be paying for something I did not receive. -
Technician arrived on time. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He throughly explain the functionality of my HVAC and needed repairs. Mr. Berkeley ensued that my system was I. Top running order when he finished the service. Thank to Mr. Belle and MCCarthy for a job well done!

The service tech Shak, was knowledgable, professional, thorough, and kindky answered all of my questions. He shared important owner maintenence tips to keep my HVAC system clean and running smooth between service visits.

TLDR: Good techs and service (though possibly overpriced); predatory and dishonest sales tactics.
We used McCarty a few times for emergency service when our A/C died. Their techs were timely, professional, and usually resolved the issues promptly. Costs didn't seem crazy at the time, but I also know nothing about HVAC prices, so it's possible (likely: see below) they were overcharging.
The reason for the 1 star is what happened next:
To get a discount on our most recent service, we signed up for their $20/month plan that comes with free inspections twice a year. During the service, the tech said our (7 year old) system was in decent shape and should have a few more years of effective life. But, during the very first "free" inspection, maybe 4 months later, the "technician" reported a bunch of leaks, corrosion, and other issues and claimed the system could die at any moment. He also claimed that a new system would singlehandedly resolve the temperature imbalance between our floors. He then "conveniently" called up one of their sales guys that, "conveniently", could come to our house that same evening to give us a quote for a new system.
Caught off guard by the apparent urgency of our problem, I agreed to get a quote. The sales guy showed up that evening, took a bunch of measurements, and, after a few iPad slides about modern HVAC technology and the company's high ratings, quoted is $23,000 for the "gold tier" recommended system for our house (the cheapest option was $19K and didn't qualify for the $2000 state energy efficiency credit, so it was an "obvious" choice). Before we knew it, we were signing a 0% financing loan agreement for an install in a few days.
After the sales guy left, we actually had a bit of time to consider and were hesitant about the price. While we were chatting, the sales guy called and said "his manager had a crew looking for work the next day so, to make sure they had a job, he agreed to bring the price down to an apparently much more reasonable $17K, but **only if we did the install the next morning**. We agreed to the lower price.
Between the offer and the install the next day, we had a chance to do a tiny amount of research (including reading some of the other recent reviews of McCarthy that reported similar experiences) and were starting to think we had made a mistake. Fortunately, when the install guy arrived, I had the chance to ask him some questions about the system before starting the install. He was brilliant, explained everything in great detail, and clearly knew what he was talking about, and I'm confident he would have done a great job with the install. But by that point, I came to the conclusion that we should at least get a second opinion on the issues and, if needed, at least one more quote before committing. So we said no and the install team left.
We called Air Treatment in Vienna for a free second opinion. Their tech read the McCarthy tech's summary, inspected everything carefully, and concluded our system was in excellent condition -- I thought the McCarthy guy may have exaggerated some real issues, but it seems he just completely made them up. No leaks, condenser coils were fine, AC compressor and refrigerant was in perfect shape; the whole system was "in better shape than the one he had at home." With regular maintenance, the system should last us at least another 3-4 years without issues. When I asked, he also said they could do inspections and routine maintenance twice a year for almost half the price of McCarthy ($140/year for two inspections). Without hesitation, we immediately cancelled our McCarthy subscription and will not be using them again.
So, in summary, they have good techs and timely service, and they probably do a good job with installs. The price we ultimately arrived at actually seems reasonable, based on other quotes we heard afterwards. But the blatant lying and predatory sales tactics are unacceptable, and we prefer to work with a company we can trust. Use at your own risk! -
Service man replaced old water heater. He was on time did a great job within the estimated time he gave me. The price was also very reasonable.
