We’ve had several jobs done by Custom Gardens. They are always prompt and professional. They do beautiful work. We would highly recommend them for any landscaping job big or small.

Consider how your employees represent you on the street. An older female in uniform was rude to several people in tractor supply Gloucester, on 6/4 around 430 pm, cutting line and disregarding everyone else as if they were clearly more important. They then proceeded to drive down Rt 17 (landrover plate #BZ4733) in a disorderly and poor fashion, completely glued to their cell phone and not paying proper attention especially for having a child riding in the passenger seat. I have never used this company but based on my first exposure was left with a bad taste and now won’t ever give them a chance for my business. 4 people in line commented similarly as your employee left the store. Good luck...

I still have water drain issue in my back yard and asked David to give me an estimate a week ago. He said he was on vacation and give me an estimated early this week. But nothing from him. Not good custom care. Meantime I found the other review about his job three years ago on same lawn issue and customer was very unhappy.

I absolutely WOULD NOT recommend this landscaping company to anyone. I hired this company to do two things for me... (1) solve a water-log problem in my back yard and (2) landscape my back yard, which included changing out the wood chips (mulch) around existing shrubs. They were also instructed to work closely with another contractor that I hired to install a paver walkway.

First, in regards to the water-log issue, their proposal to fix the problem involved burying a "perforated" large pipe along the center of my back yard along with 3 "drainage points" (3 box-type drains with grated tops) for the rain water to "flow" into. Here is the issue I had with this work... the long pipe buried across my back yard was not buried deep enough and so that strip of yard (in the center of my back yard) no longer remains green. It's hard for grass to grow there with the pipe being only 6-8 inches underneath, and so my back yard now has a streak of brown across the area where the pipe is buried. Also, the tops of the drainage boxes they installed were ABOVE ground level so rain water settling in the yard does not flow "into" the boxes, it instead puddles around the boxes. And, to make matters worse, the boxes are about 8 inches deeper than the drainage pipes attached to them (to take water away) so now I have stagnant water sitting in 3 points of my back yard, which are perfect nesting spots for mosquito colonies.

In regards to "landscaping" my back yard, they started off with "redoing" the shrub beds. Basically, all that they did was bring in new mulch and drop it on top of the old mulch. For the amount they charged for landscaping, I could have very well done this myself. And rather than putting any weed barrier down, before laying down the new mulch, they simply tossed new mulch on top of the old. So, within only a week of the new mulch being put down, weeds were popping up in my shrub beds.

Lastly, as far as my request that they coordinate their work with my other contractor whom I hired to make the paver walkway from my shed to the patio behind the house, rather than do as I requested (coordinate their plan with his) they did not make any contact with that contractor and then became upset with that contractor, AFTER he finished his project, because his finished project did not fit in with what they had planned for the yard.

I strongly do not recommend this company's services (or lack thereof) to anyone.

We purchased a home on the Northern Neck and contracted with Custom Gardens for a landscape design plan. We worked closely with David Chewey and Barbara Schuler. The design that they came back with was beyond all of our expectations. It was obvious that they paid attention to our concerns, including our budget. We are excited to continue working with Custom Gardens to see their fantastic landscape plan come to reality.

Wife and I needed some help pruning lots of shrubs. This company was responsive and sent out a 2-man crew that not only worked very hard for the day but paid attention to fine detail! Will definitely be using them again and highly recommend them to others. Yard looks beautiful again, thank you!

Custom Gardens installed a paver patio in my backyard earlier this year and I was very impressed with the crew, their hard work and especially and their attention to detail. The crew showed up on time every day, put in a hard day's work (one day during a snow storm) and my patio turned out PERFECTLY.
I highly recommend Custom Gardens in Yorktown, Va, to anyone on the Peninsula including Williamsburg to install hardscape or complete any landscape project you can dream of.

I am happy with the service, quality of work, and value that was provided in April 2021. To solve a drainage problem in my backyard, Custom Gardens installed a French drain and sump, graded the yard, and put down sod. One year later, and the solution is working great. My back yard now looks better than my front yard.

We engaged Custom Gardens to renovate and convert our large front yard to indigenous plants and trees. They did an excellent job on schedule and on budget. In addition that they recommended modifications to our problematic drainage system and executed the modifications.I cannot say enough positive things about my experience with Custom Gardens. We have contracted with Customer Garden for landscaping and hardscaping projects as well as landscape management. Most recently we had them install a permeable driveway. They have always been courteous, responsive and knowledgeable.

I recently worked with Custom Gardens, a local company located in Yorktown, to help me with erosion control for a slope section of my yard. The work required a large amount of plants and trees, over 200 pieces, to be planted in various locations on the slope.

The planting crew came in and did the entire job within one day with great speed and accuracy. The care that went into the work is nothing short of amazing, and over 95% of the plants live happily on the hillside. However, for those plants that did not make it, Jon and Kristi worked on the schedule to replace them as needed. Custom Gardens provided the replacement plants and worked with me to bring an even better selection than the original plants.

With the current labor shortage crisis, Custom Gardens and their personnel performed the work on time and flawlessly. Because of such a wonderful experience I experienced, Custom Gardens is my “ GO TO” company if and when I need help with any outdoor project.

We used Custom Gardens for landscaping that we had done recently! They were very professional, had great design advice and are very nice people to work with. Their team worked nonstop to get our project completed in a timely manner. We will definitely use them for any future projects. We also just signed up for their Garden Care Service. Custom Gardens has been taking care of my yard for many years. They’ve done Hardscape and fountains and gorgeous landscaping. They are always very responsive to my needs and my schedule. I recommend them highly to anyone.

I had Custom Gardens put down new sod and shrubs for part of my house. Many weeds and Bermuda/wire grass came up through the sod because I don't think any other prep was done other than to strip the old grass. I have had to put in much effort to get the grass to look good. The shrubs look good and have grown nicely. There are steep areas where they re-placed existing landscaping rocks and those areas were not successful: the rocks keep falling down. Something else should have been proposed. Working with the designer and staff was easy and they were responsive.

We've been working with Custom Gardens since 2021 to redesign & replant the garden beds throughout our yard. It's been an ongoing project as we address each of our different areas. Our yard looks beautiful & we get many compliments.

It's been a pleasure to work with Kristi and her team. It takes a lot of back and forth to come up with a final design for each bed but it's been worth it. The team has been very easy to work with from design to planting. Wayne & his crewmates, who have done much of the planting, has done a great job. It's always a collaborative effort as we work together to lay out the plants for planting. Wayne always has good suggestions. Projects have always been completed on time and if there were any follow up issues with the plants, the issues were quickly addressed. Custom Gardens also installed landscape lighting for us. Again, this was another successful project & the lighting adds so much to our landscape.

Both my husband and I are so very pleased with the work we had done from Custom Gardens. If we could give 10 stars on the review we would. This is because everyone was exceptional during our project. From the beginning when calling the company and speaking to Maria (who answered the phone) and could not be have been nicer; to meeting and working with Kristi throughout the whole project. Kristi was knowledgeable and resourceful. She helped us to get everything we needed to our HOA and was available if they had questions. After our project was approved by our HOA Kristi was instrumental and getting the project started the very next week......yup amazingly fast!! The workers also went the extra mile. The guys who brought the materials and cleared our whole porch of flower pots and furniture for the project who also built our stairs from the porch to the ground making it easier on my broken body to get down the stairs. Finally, our hero and master craftsman Dylan who worked diligently in the heat of the day and into the evening making sure everything fit and looked great. We found all of them to be the most hard working and efficient individuals who provided excellent customer service. We would have to say in our experience with other companies Custom Gardens has got to be one of the BEST in providing excellent service from start to finish with stellar staff and a very reasonable pricing. Finally, we have to put in a special plug for Dylan because he did the major bulk of the work after the stairs were built. Our project consisted of brick pavers on our cement porch and a flag stone path to our bird feeders. He was very particular about the look of our porch and could not have been neater when applying the mortar. He did an excellent job placing a very attractive pattern with the bricks on our porch and we enjoyed getting to know him through the process. He was so thorough in the quality of his work and provided excellent customer service to us. Both my husband and I thank Dylan, Matt, Shawn, Kristi, Maria and all the others for a job well done. Kudos to Custom Gardens for hiring the best and the brightest team! A BIG Thank you to everyone involved in the project and forgive us if we missed someone but know you are appreciated.
