We couldn’t be happier with our pool + backyard build from Unique. The process was smooth from start to finish—easy communication, no stress, and no surprise issues. We were new pool owners with tons of questions, and the team was patient and thorough every step of the way.

The design was exactly what we hoped for. We brought inspiration photos and they incorporated every feature we asked for, while still making it feel cohesive and high-end. The transformation is honestly wild: this used to be a small dirt lot, and now it feels like a resort—like our porch is just steps away from a Caribbean beach.
Thank you to all staff that we worked with: Steve, Julia, Stacy, Scott, Dayton!

Amazing service from Chad! He listened to what we wanted and stayed in the price range we discussed! Other pool builders added $20,000 or more onto our budget and kept saying we wouldn’t get any better. But we did with AZ backyard thanks to Chad!

Have had an absolute amazing experience working with Chad. We got about 5 different bids for our backyard and Chad was the ONLY one able to bring our vision to life with our whole backyard and close to our budget. He took his time to get to us and our style and fully understands our vision and has helped so much with the options we can choose from. ☺️🙏🏼 Very pleased and grateful!

I talked to multiple pool contractors, but Chad from Az Backyard Lifestyles . He really listened to us and turned our dream pool into a reality. Chad was always honest and quick to respond to any questions. the office team were also excellent, keeping us well-informed throughout the process, even when we hit a minor warranty snag. Given all the horror stories I've heard about other pool companies, I can't recommend Chad and his team enough.

I am deeply disappointed with my experience with AZ Backyard Lifestyle. Despite the positive reviews I had initially read, my own experience was far from satisfactory due to multiple significant issues.

Firstly, the communication with AZ Backyard Lifestyle was consistently poor. I encountered delays in responses to emails, phone calls, and text messages, often having to follow up multiple times before receiving any acknowledgment. This lack of timely communication caused unnecessary stress and hindered the progress of the project. When I got back from vacation to check on the progress of my backyard I was told by Michele (scheduler), “Oh, I think we are done with your project.” There was never a final walkthrough with me or any communication to let me know it was complete until I personally reached out. Not only was the communication poor between me and the company there seemed to be poor communication amongst the company workers themselves. I was told different things by different people. Chad and Scott seemed to never be on the same page. Things were promised by one and not upheld by the other.

Secondly, the professionalism exhibited by the team was lacking. When issues were raised, they were addressed with a lack of courtesy and urgency. This unprofessional behavior significantly affected the overall experience and trust in the company. I had to continually reach out for updates on my yard and I had to continue to inspect whether things were done incorrectly for them to be noticed and get fixed. For example, my travertine was placed, and there seemed to be a lot left over which was taken away once they thought they were done. Several weeks later I noticed on my plans that behind my grill there was travertine that should have been placed. I personally had to reach out when this was something that should have been caught by the superintendent (Charles). They came out and installed the travertine and admitted it was an oversight. However, had I not caught it, it would have never been done.

Most concerning, however, was the quality of the work performed. The final deliverables were far below the standards promised, with noticeable errors and a general lack of attention to detail. Despite several requests for corrections and improvements, the work remained unsatisfactory, which was incredibly frustrating and disappointing. The stucco on my media wall and BBQ left with many chips, the BBQ grill installed incorrectly, and loose travertine.

Overall, my experience with AZ Backyard Lifestyle was regrettable, and I would not recommend their services based on my interactions. It is crucial for any company to uphold effective communication, professionalism, and high-quality work, and unfortunately, AZ Backyard Lifestyle fell short in all these areas.

I hope this review serves as constructive feedback and prompts AZ Backyard Lifestyle to address these issues for the benefit of future clients.

    ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I can't say enough incredible things about my experience with this company! Working from home, I was initially nervous about building a pool, but after extensive research and meeting with multiple companies, we decided to go with them—and I'm so glad we did.

Craig was the first person we met, and he immediately put us at ease. He was easy to talk to, extremely knowledgeable, trustworthy, and always responded quickly and kindly to my many questions. Todd, our superintendent, was equally fantastic. He and Michelle kept us informed every step of the way, letting us know who would be on site and when.

Our project timeline was impressively quick and efficient, thanks to this amazing team. Even after completion, we needed a few repairs and updates, which were taken care of within days of us reaching out.

I truly couldn’t recommend this company more. Communication was spot on, and in the often unpredictable world of construction, I always felt secure knowing exactly what was happening next. A huge thank you to everyone involved!

Adding a pool was a big decision, but this company made it worth it. Our backyard is now the go-to spot for family gatherings and relaxing weekends

Abl build our swimming pool and spa. The design is amazing and every time we have company over and parties, which is very often I get tons of compliments and it makes me very proud.💕

One of the best parts of working with this company was the customer service. They answered all our questions, kept us updated throughout the project, and made sure we were happy with every step. Our pool turned out exactly how we wanted!

To begin I will say the last supervisor and the final setup employees were great. Other than that, I do not recommend this company. Their excavators damaged irrigation that was 30’ from the pool and resisted my request to repair. They relented after I convinced the supervisor that it was not reasonable or expected damage. They also stripped all of the rock on the side of the house from the fence to the street. They refused to replace the rock without charge. I asked for an estimate but have yet to hear back. I am now paying a landscaper to repair this damage. This project reminded me of a movie where the workers would show up unexpectedly then no one would show for weeks. Communication was terrible and I do not believe they are reasonable.

I was initially excited to find a pool company that understood what I wanted and claimed they could complete the job quickly. Unfortunately, that excitement quickly faded.
On their website, Arizona Backyard Lifestyles claims that pool builds typically take 45 to 60 working days. That gave me confidence. Based on that, and what the consultant personally told us, we signed a contract for a very basic rectangular pool (17 x 30) with a projected completion date of late June 2025.
As of September 29, 2025, the project is still not fully completed—specifically, the landscaping portion (which consists of only turf and rock). When I discussed the delay with the owner, he referred to an internal “guideline” of 3 to 4.5 months, or up to 90 working days, for project completion. This directly contradicts both the website and what the consultant told us. Nowhere in the contract is this “guideline” stated. In my opinion, this amounts to false advertising.
To illustrate the delays, here’s a breakdown of the timeline and when various subcontractors completed their work:
    • April 4 – Contract signed
    • May 7 – Permit issued
    • May 15–16 – Excavation
    • May 28–30 – Plumbing
    • June 6 – Steel
    • June 11 – Electrical
    • June 17 – Inspection
    • July 2 – Shotcrete
    • July 29 – Waterline tile
    • August 11–14 – Coping and decking
    • September 2 – Final plumbing
    • September 9 – Final electrical
    • September 10 – Inspection
    • September 18–19 – Pebble coating / acid wash
    • September 23 – Pool start-up
    • September 24–29 – Landscaping (still not fully complete as of writing)
Communication throughout the project was poor. I had to follow up with the company multiple times just to get basic updates. This seems to be a recurring issue mentioned in other online reviews, so clearly, it's something they are aware of but have not corrected.
Another issue was how they scheduled work: rather than planning ahead, each phase was scheduled only after the previous one was completed. This reactive process led to unnecessary delays. For example, when we were waiting on the waterline tile installation, I was told that the subcontractor would “fit us in based on his own schedule and other jobs in the area.” That kind of hands-off approach caused more delays and frustration.
I’m extremely disappointed with Arizona Backyard Lifestyles and would not use them again. I considered switching to another company, but doing so would void the warranty on the pool—essentially trapping me in a frustrating situation.
I now tell anyone I speak to about pools not to use AZ Backyard Lifestyles, which is unfortunate because I don’t normally give negative reviews. But in this case, it’s well deserved.
To add insult to injury, I recently learned that during the time it took them to (still not fully) complete my project, they completed another pool in 38 business days. That alone speaks volumes.

    Update: 6/3/25
Still little to no work completed. ABL is unable to give me a timeline of when work will be done let alone completed. They have now refused to communicate with me and will only answer to emails.
My pool was built wrong due to their error. It’s been a year of fighting with them to fix it and now they are fixing it, it feels like they are purposely dragging it out. One job is completed bi weekly if that.

It’s been almost a year since they started my pool. Today is 4/26/25
It’s failed inspections, they built it to high, the slope away from pool is at wrong grade level, the decking is to high along the weed screep edging around the house/stucco … so many things wrong.
They said they will now fix it all after months of fighting with them but they refuse to set a start date. I’ve paid for all the work that has been done so far but they still have not competed the jobs paid for. They have gone through scheduler after scheduler. Michele quit or got fired, Stephanie quit or got fired now they have Sara. My designer quit or got fired, they have one project manger named Todd. It’s been a mess.
If you want clear communication and transparency, you won’t get it here. If you want a schedule of when will work be done, you won’t get it here. Do not get them confused with American Backyards. That company is owned by chuck and not Larry the owner of ABL They are two different pool companies. I hired my own engineer and an attorney. RUN! Do not use this company.

⚠️ Beware Arizona Backyard Lifestyles (formerly Platinum Pools).

I’m a disabled veteran who signed a $44,990 pool contract, and after I complained about a safety hazard, the owner terminated my contract — but still took more money. He told me he would “finish” the pool if I paid upfront, then ran off with my money and left me with a torn-up yard and an unfinished pool.

Their contract is written to protect them, with vague milestones that let them demand payment for work not done, and even make the homeowner responsible for property damage. I have photos (see attached), video, and proof — and a formal complaint filed with the Registrar of Contractors.

The owner even threatened me with libel and a lien on my property if I left reviews.

Please protect yourself and your family — do not trust this company.

We hired AZ Backyard for our pool project, and they exceeded our expectations! Our salesman David was very transparent about cost, timeline and checked in on us while we were working on the loan. When they had us come in to the office to finalize everything Their team was knowledgeable and friendly.

I personally work in construction so I did my homework & I am very familiar with how things work as well as have high expectations when I have contractors at my house. The subs were all great and did quality work as well as keep a VERY clean job site. I also have 2 dogs so it was important to me that they made sure that they had everything closed up before the end of the day which they did.

They not only stuck to the timeline but got my job done earlier than expected. I had a birthday party for my daughter so Michelle made some calls and was able to get my pool plastered and full by Wednesday and clean up crew on Thursday so we could have the pool for the party. Their subs also were great at accommodating my landscapers that were on site at the same time.

It’s hard to find reliable contractors these days, but AZ Backyard truly delivered. If you’re looking for a skilled and trustworthy pool subcontractor, I highly recommend them!
