Replacing a tile roof can be an intimidating process. The thought of removing thousands of pounds of concrete tiles along with battens and roofing materials can be overwhelming. The logistics of removing all the previous roofing materials however, went smootly and watching the process made it clear that it was time to replace the roof. Along with the tiles came a significant amount of debris including various animal and insect nests that were scattered beneath the tiles and the inspection and replacement of damaged roof sheathing before the first layer of new, hig quality roofing fabric was installed.

During the construction, architect friend commented that the roofs of the 1980's were not designed like the roofs are today recognizing the severe changes in weather that we have been experiencing over the past few years. Roofing fabrics are significantly more durable than the basic "tar paper" of the past. Flashing techniques and materials are much more sophisticated and many adhesives and sealers are used to insure that the water flows are controlled and directed away from the house. Bird guards are installed to minimize undertile entry of birds and rodents.

Roofing tile installation, I discovered, is more of an art than a science. Installers have to make decisions on various treaments depending on the rooflines of the house, and it was amazing how they managed to address these different situations. Hundreds of pieces of tile have to be cut and fitted using huge gasoline powered saws, and almost all the cutting took place on the roof.

1 by 1 Roofers crew members were incredibly courteous and worked diligently and carefully. During the reroofing process I met Benito, their Customer Care Specialist and Fernando, the Job Superintendent. Gus, the owner also stopped by. And they all had the same message--they wanted the customer to be assured of their high quality work, and in that, they were most successful.

Albeit, as in every job of this magnitude, there were some days of frustration but the communications were exemplary and I noticed that each of their business cards had their personal cell number, as opposed to the main company line which made it much easier to keep in touch by phone and text.

All in all, it was an extraordinary opportunity to see this work take place and I have developed a healthy respect for the installers who provide us with the skills and energy to do this work here in Tucson. Kudos to all of them, especially Roger, who served as my 'unofficial translator" and Melvin and Daniel who taught me more about flashing than I could have imagined. I enjoyed meeting them all and every day I considered myself lucky that they were "on the roof"

The guys did a great job with my roof. They were in time and professional. They worked very hard to get it done in a timely fashion. Took great care and cleanup making sure the yard was good for my dogs. Definitely recommend.

After a storm left us without power to our Mt. Lemmon cabin, 1By1 did an absolutely great job in replacing our exterior electrical equipment. 1by1 replaced drywall on our ceiling and interior walls and once they painted the repair you could not tell it had ever been worked on. They kept us informed at every step and let us know when they would be here each time they came over to do the work. Excellent company!!

It was great to have a roof inspector actually meet and educate my Buyer in person about her Shingle roof condition and needs. They took the extra time to lift up the shingles and look at all parts of the roof and provide pictures of the issues that most roofing companies overlook.
