HVAC reviews in Oakland, California

A/C went out the first hot day of the year. Luckily, it was just a blown fuse. Chris came out the next day and all was well. Very patient with my questions (I'm new to this location and wanted info on the unit). Would recommend this Atlas HVAC.

I have used Atlas for over 30 years and have consistently received first class service from friendly professionals.

Highly recommend Atlas Heating and Airconditioning. They designed and installed our heating system about 28 years ago. I needed a service call, turns out it was a fuse trip, they checked the wiring and the vibration over time caused a short. A simple fix will keep our heater working. Thanks Atlas for keeping it simple.

Why use anyone else? Atlas provides consistently great service. They have even helped me over the phone so that I didn’t need a service call. Their employees are content and many long term. Good company = happy employees = satisfied customers. No gimmicks, just good, old fashioned ethical business. How refreshing!

Atlas installed a new heating and air conditioning system in our home. Workers were polite and considerate as they worked for several days to complete our project. They adjusted the system as necessary to balance the air flow until we were very satisfied with the results. We are vet happy with our new system. We highly recommend Atlas. Keven, who was our contact throughout the project was a pleasure to work with and patiently answered all of our questions.

From the office personnel setting the appointment, to the tech that came to my home- courteous, fairly priced and efficient!
Would use them anytime I have HVAC needs-Thank You! -
Atlas just replaced our 32-yr-old furnace (originally it was state-of-the-art) with a modern unit that is an amazing improvement in quiet and ability to maintain the requested temperature to an exact degree. The job was done in half a day from removing the old unit to completing installation and careful testing. Cost was less than some other bids and came with the attentive service from Atlas that other reviewers have also described and seems to be central to the company's culture. It was a pleasure to interact with the installers (patient with my questions) and with every person I encountered at Atlas Heating.
We were planning replacement for a while, but suddenly our old unit died completely so we begged for an early install date. There was an understandable miscommunication about the exact date, but to accommodate us, supervisor Kevin jumped in, changed from business clothes to overalls and with a sharp guy named Chris handled the job much sooner than we could have expected.
A furnace is a long-term appliance and new designs are highly complex devices, so reliable warranty service is even more important than what brand or model you buy. The way Atlas performs and the way they treat customers reflects the values of the Tuck family who have operated this business since 1908. I feel confident that Atlas will be in business and stand behind their work for as long as I need. -
Atlas Heating & Air Conditioning Co. are very professional & competent! Our serviceman-Aaron was on time, knowledgeable and accessed our issue with our vintage heater quickly.
He ordered the parts needed, came back for a second appointment and completed the job perfectly.
We also asked for an estimate to update our heating and he followed through with our request.
We are very happy with the service that we received & highly recommend this company to anyone. -
Aaron was on time, polite. He finished the work quickly and professionally. I would recommend Atlas heating and Aaron to anyone needing HVAC work.

Very good experience as a first time customer! Everything went smoothly from scheduling the appointment to having the technician perform the maintenance service. He was on-time, polite, left the place clean and detailed in his explanations of how my old furnace works. Would definitely recommend Atlas to anyone!

efficient, professional. Had to order parts for our rooftop unit. It was a cold 5 days n I t as soon as the part came in they were on it.
Thanks! -
Atlas Heating and Cooling is one of the best companies I've worked with since owning my home over 30 years. Aaron was super helpful answering my questions regarding the mini-split heat pump system and estimate. Erick and Roman were very skilled, professional and a pleasure to work with on the installation. Cleanup was immaculate. Highly recommend!

Tenants stated Atlas arrived on time and fixed an issue with a downstairs furnace. Unfortunately, the technician had a previous injury and was unable to check the attic furnace, but that wasn't a priority, as at the time, it was working appropriately.

I had to engage in a remote consultation with the technician regarding my rental property. He arrived punctually and diligently completed the annual tune-up on time. His commitment to avoiding unnecessary work is highly valued by me, as he possesses a comprehensive understanding of HVAC systems. When I inquired about the necessity of replacing the old parts, his response was unequivocal: “I do not recommend it.” I greatly appreciated his honesty and transparency.

We had a heatpump installed and we love it. Atlas did a great job and when I had some questions later on the young man was very patient and knowledgeable and explained everything in detail.
Very happy customer -
Atlas Heating and Air of Oakland (est. 1908) installed a new heat-pump based HVAC system in our 2-story Craftsman home (est. 1912) and in our old (1969) backyard ADU in Rockridge, Oakland, during November 2025. I could not have been more impressed with the service, intelligence, hard work, ingenuity, and artistry they displayed through the entire process. At every turn, I was witness to really good, smart, industrious, engaging people, beginning with Nick, with sales and initial planning; then Scott, with functional planning and project management; onto Ryan and Carlos, co-lead installers and trouble-shooters; then Roman, doing apprentice-level muscle work; and even Alex, who served as a here-and-there assistant and deliverer. Right away, Nick, with sales, struck me as very intelligent and articulate, giving me immediate comfort and confidence. Then Scott actually upped that game with his creative and technical astuteness, driven by a deep artistic sense and awareness of our antique home’s character that was not to be spoiled with a new modern system. He and I really hit it off when we realized how many side interests we shared (in the arts and music). Then Ryan, the co-lead installer, brought a technical nerd’s mindset that he managed to channel through brilliant observations and solutions to problems. (And, it turned out, we had grown up three blocks from each other -- albeit, 27 years apart -- in our charming old neighborhood in Martinez!) Carlos was solid; with him I felt a quiet, focused intelligence: figure it out and get it done. Roman (ro-MAHN) was limited with his rudimentary English skills, but his can-do, hard-working, intelligence also showed by the installation challenges he conquered. And even young Alex, whom I only encountered a couple of times, delivering or assisting, presented me with an earnestness that made me feel proud for his mother. The entire installation, from basement to the third story attic, in crawl spaces and on ladders, and out in the backyard with the ADU, was done in an amazingly short 5 days (!), during a cold rainy week. I was home the whole time, engaging with them, answering questions about preferences of locations for satellite units and routes to be traversed to achieve it; and I was just glowing with gratitude for all that they were doing, and doing well. On the day that the big (huge!) main exterior heat-pump unit was put into place and connected to all the copper vacuum tubing, the rain was lashing cold, all day. I felt so sorry for what they had to endure, and yet during their lunch break on my front porch, I heard collegial laughter and uncomplaining tone in their conversations. In the last day, they brought in a trusted carpentry contractor, “Ryan #2,” who did plaster work and painting. (Turns out he and Scott were already good friends, so the three of us got to compare notes on the musical interests we share.) And he did masterful work. Indeed, I have since employed him for additional side jobs for our old home. Oh, and the heat-pump system is a dream! In replacing our basement gas furnace, and adding an air conditioning component to our lives (for the first time!), while also making efficient use of the extra electricity our rooftop solar system produces, we have now gotten ourselves a fantastic HVAC system that is integrated very inconspicuously with our beautiful old house. And … after the first month, our PG&E bill was significantly lower, with our gas usage now down to a minimum. Were I an “all thumbs” guy, I would give them 10 thumbs up! But they’ll have to settle for this glowing review. Thank you, Team Atlas!

Atlas Heating and Air Conditioning did excellent work on our house! They replaced our extremely old furnace, ductwork and thermostat, added another duct and register in our antique hardwood floors, and arranged for the asbestos remediation and permitting with the city. They made the whole process easy for us. In fact, when things did get difficult (as any large home improvement project will), they went above and beyond! We had an issue with another contractor and Atlas Heating and Air Conditioning worked to make the whole project “right” for us, even though the issue was not their responsibility. They also fixed things they didn’t need to - there were at least two issues with our property not related to the project, and not covered under the agreement, that they spotted and just took care of because they were there and had the tools to do so. The whole process also went entirely as they described with no delays or surprises.
I thank the entire team at Atlas Heating and Air Conditioning! From our estimator, Nick Reno, to shop foreman Scott Green, and to our installers Joe Cooper and Alex Skinner, I highly recommend them!
If I could give them 6 stars I would!

Atlas does a terrific job, we have had them here to work on our furnace a couple times over the years. This time, the furnace had stopped working properly - shutting off after a few minutes. Atlas diagnosed the concern (we had a huge air duct collapse due to age and deterioration of the interior structure). I watched the technician remove the ductwork so I could see what was going on inside. He replaced the duct and the system works great!

Atlas was great! Our furnace (which they installed 16 years ago) failed to come on this fall when it got cold. They sent out a technician the same week, and he quickly diagnosed the problem. Erik communicated the issue and expected cost clearly. The Monday after a new condensation pump arrived (on Friday), the problem was fixed. I imagine this is their busiest time of year, so very much appreciated the quick service— our house was pretty cold for the prior week! I thought the price was fair. Will use them again.

I can’t say enough great things about Atlas. The installation process went incredibly smoothly, the people we worked with were extremely responsive, professional and nice. Everything was done on time. The cost was much less than other bids we received. They are true pros.

The technician did a good job, but there was some confusion about the charge, which I thought was too much. They called me right away to try to understand what had happened and after reviewing all concerned, later that day called back and made more than generous adjustment. The owners are wonderful people and and I would recommend them for anything rom a major replacement (like the one they did for me) or something as simple as a bad thermostat, which they just replaced. Before leaving a less than satisfactory rating (which I did) let them know there was a problem (which I should have done). Thank you.
