HVAC reviews in Fort Collins, Colorado

I have a 15 year old Rinnai tankless water heater that started to go cold after 10 minutes. It would reset after I shut off and turned the faucet back on. When it failed, it gave a trouble code 10 (which means intake or exhaust blockage).
I regrettably, first called another HVAC provider who really performed zero troubleshooting then proceeded to inform me that my water heater was very outdated and that repair didn't make sense. I was told to properly T/S it would be $1200 minimum with no guarantee it could be fixed. They said my best option was to upgrade to their system for $6800.00
I called NCA and they promptly sent technician Matt White to my home. I explained the problem i was having and the code I was getting. Matt knew exactly what the problem was before even removing the cover. Once he did, it was confirmed that my burner was partially blocked with dead Miller moths. It took Matt less than 30 minutes to clean them out, give the rest of the heater a look, test it and be out the door. He said the unit was working great and should last many more years.
A little over $125 to clean out some pesky bugs versus another company trying to get me to shell out almost 7K for something unnecessary.
Matt and Northern Colorado Air are my new go to HVAC provider. Their honesty and caring service was great. They give me hope that not everyone is simply out to make a buck and they genuinely put their customer first.
Thanks again NCA! -
None of us ever want to have to replace an A/C unit, but when it came time, we knew who to call. We appreciate their good communication, honest pricing, long-term employees (nice to see the same faces over the years), and overall quality and timeliness of service. Have used Northern Colorado Air in the past for other needs and have always been happy. Keeping it local as much as we can is also important, and since they've been in town as long as I can remember, we know we can count on them.

The technician that came out, Ronnie, was absolutely wonderful. Extremely professional, quickly installed the new thermostat, and even showed me step by step how to set up the scheduling option on the new one.
Every time NCA sends someone out, the work is always done quickly and their prices are definitely more reasonable than most of the companies in the area! -
In need of a replacement for our AC compressor, we called around for quotes.
They varied wildly both in terms of responsiveness and cost.
We were so disappointed with Poudre Valley Air, that we nearly went with another company, despite the cost being much much higher.
We figured, if PVA couldn't be more responsive and professional at the top of the sales funnel, why would we want to tangle with them in the event there was ANY issue with the system. You get what you pay for in terms of service.
I decided to get a third quote and I'm glad I did. Northern Colorado Air was super easy to schedule with, the crew doing the work was clean, professional, quiet -- we barely knew they were here doing the work, the installer was so smooth.
And we saved a BUNDLE ... like enough to get a new AC AND spend a week in Hawaii.
But more importantly, we just had a great experience. It was easy.
In fact, we ordered the system we thought we wanted and got a call that while they had that SEER in stock, they'd rather we get a slightly better SEER for the same money. We simply had to wait ONE EXTRA DAY. That was it. Same cost.
And if we're being really honest, we're grateful for that one extra SEER daily. We should have gone even higher, but we are happy with the service and since it was the first time we'd dealt with replacing AC in any of our homes, we're happy to learn that more SEER is better. -
Northern Colorado Air installed Central Air in my home in Fall 2021 (I did not have it). I also wanted a high efficiency furnace since my furnace was over 23 years old, even though it was still working. I got bids from 5-6 other HVAC companies. None of them were interested in installing a high efficiency furnace, even the companies recommended by "Efficiency Works" One company would not even install Central Air because they could not figure out how to install in my crawl space. No Co Air were great, efficient, neat, and had the best prices as well!

Benjamin is super professional and so thorough in maintaining my furnace and A/C! Truly a gifted technician! NCA is also great, they send out my service contract when it’s due for renewal, reasonably priced and Benjamin is just awesome—he cares about me as a customer and takes so much pride in his work!

NOT happy with interaction with receptionist. I asked for a MESSAGE to be given to someone about the fact that the furnace installation did not pass inspection. Never any service-only wants to pass to the phone messaging service. When I asked about an issue with smoke detectors she said it was MY problem. Be careful!!!! Asking for complete service doesn't mean you are going to get it!!!!!!!

I have used Northern Colorado Air since we bought our furnace over 20 years ago and before that with the first furnace in our home. They are skilled, ethical, prompt, professional along with kind and friendly. They answer every question I might have about furnace/ac operation and seek to give the best care to both for me so my system lasts as long as possible and gives me the performance I want. I enroll in the twice a year checks and I think it is very worth it. I have never had any major problems and only a few operational questions which they always respond to quickly and with good information for me.

Update - We continue to have excellent service, and this time by Matt. We have the maintenance contract and he completed the winter service today (1/28/2025). Really like receiving the measurements of CO2, air flow, etc. - Honest company! Our Technician John fixed our issue instead of replacing the part, saving us hundreds of dollars! I’d called a different company initially and after they inspected the small leak, we were quoted quite a bit to replace a box (source of leak) and 2 other parts as “recommended preventative maintenance”. I called Northern Colorado Air for a second opinion and Jason advised those 2 parts could be cleaned, and wouldn’t recommend replacing until needed. I told him about the leak and the part we were told needed replaced, and he ordered that part, as my description of the issue and the initial quote from the other company made sense. Fast forward to our visit, and our Technician John said the leak was coming from that box, but typically the seal fails and could be resealed versus replacing the box. This is the kind of company all other companies should model themselves after! Thank you Jason and John, we will be customers for life!

These guys were awesome, they went above and beyond to get the job done. And they worked into their evening to finish. I am a tradesman, and hated to see them working into their free time to get the job done. As much as I hate to see hard working men eating up there very valuable personal time to make the customer happy, its much appreciated. Value the people that are helping make your life better. As a union member of L.U 68 IBEW, I can appreciate hard work, dedication, and a drive to satisfy.
Thank you for the hard work from the tradesman that performed their duties at my home.
Best regards
Jeff Clark

After looking at a couple of different companies, we decided to use Northern Colorado Air to install AC for our home. We're very glad we did! Wes came out and despite several issues with how our furnace and ducts were installed, was able to correct those issues to properly install our AC even though it took significantly more time than he had allotted. He communicated clearly throughout the process and really made sure to take the time he needed to do the job right. We're extremely happy with our system and some of the upgrades he completed to ensure that our system would work for us. It's refreshing this day and age to see that there are still people who will put in the extra effort to do things right, and not just patch it together for a year or two until it breaks again. We're so grateful to Wes and Northern Colorado Air for doing a fantastic job and sticking to the bid price despite some added difficulties. We'd recommend them to anyone!

Exceptional HVAC Service - Highly Recommended!
Finding reliable HVAC technicians was always a challenge until I discovered Northern Colorado Air. Their team possesses advanced knowledge and expertise, ensuring they can diagnose and resolve any issue efficiently and at a fair price. The technicians are highly experienced, trustworthy, and provide outstanding customer service. With a decades-long track record of excellence, this locally owned and operated company is led by seasoned professionals who have been in their roles for many years. I have been in the Northern Colorado real estate market for 20+ years and I trust Northern Colorado Air for the best furnace and AC service around! -
Kristin, Benjamin, and Scott came to our rescue when our 2.5 year old AC went out! They worked hard to find a solution quickly and were true professionals all the way! I cannot recommend them enough! What a pleasure it was to have them solve our problem!

Great company! Just moved into a new home and had some issues with the heater. Contacted Jeff and he promptly sent a couple of technicians to fix it. I'd say they went beyond expectations with the fix.
-
Great Service! Benjamin was very thorough in examining my HVAC system. I really appreciate his expertise!

Another company told us we needed a whole new system. We called Northern Colorado Air for a second opinion, and it turned out to be a simple fix! Blake diagnosed the issue quickly, had the part in his truck, and he had our A/C running again for the hottest week of the summer. Can't say enough good things about this experience -- reasonable cost, great service!

I have had several experiences with Northern Air, most recently with Benjamin who installed smart thermostats. Fantastically responsive, knowledgable and curteous. Have really appreciated the service they provide.

I have used Northern Colorado Air to service my HVAC equipment since I became a homeowner in 2020. Last year I got an estimate to replace both the furnace and AC. I decided I just wanted to replace the furnace so a few weeks ago I reached out for an updated estimate for just the furnace. The estimate that I received had a furnace and AC on it, so when I reached out to schedule the install I again specified that I just wanted the furnace. Karena asked me to cross off the equipment that I didn’t want and to sign the estimate and send it in. I did so and then a day or two later received an updated estimate via email for just the furnace, and it was $700 more than the estimate that I signed and booked the install on. I also received an email from Karena requesting for me to sign and send the updated estimate. I asked for the increase to be explained, I got a call from the estimator and he explained that I got a labor discount for both pieces of equipment that was removed for just the furnace - makes sense.
There are two reasons I’m leaving this one-star review. 1. If a customer has already signed an estimate and booked an install for a certain price and then you send an updated estimate to them for a $700 increase, that increase should be explained in the estimate or email, they shouldn’t have to track that information down. 2. When I talked to Karena to politely express my frustration, there was no apology and only defensiveness from her end. Once again, I was clear from the get go that I only wanted the furnace, she understood that I only wanted the furnace because she asked me to cross off the equipment that I didn’t want on the estimate I signed. But there was not a single apology for the confusion on their company’s part.
I have worked in a similar industry before, I understand that there is a lot that goes into pricing that the customers don’t see, so the price increase honestly isn’t that big of a deal. But the way this was handled is why I will seek HVAC services elsewhere. Customer service is huge, and I didn’t feel heard or respected as a customer. -
Jeremiah was excellent! He installed my water heater, and explained why the GE water heater was a better option with their 12year warranty. He explained the expansion tank to me, and also other features of the newly installed water heater. I appreciated his thoroughness and helpfulness.

Great service. Cody was very professional and explained the repair needed to resolve our leak. Yes, I would recommend.
