My experience with Bryan Purefoy of Happy Wife AC has been nothing short of disastrous. What began as a simple job to replace ductwork, repair a failed condenser, and install a mini-split turned into a months-long ordeal of failed workmanship, broken promises, and now, legal action.

    Condenser Repair – Total Failure
Bryan personally handled the condenser repair. He came out three separate times, including one visit that went until 1:00 AM after he ran out of oxygen for welding. Despite these multiple attempts, the repair completely failed. A week later, the unit was blowing warm air again.

A licensed HVAC professional I hired to fix the damage found:

    Poorly welded copper piping

    Damaged valve threading

Oil and coolant loss that compromised the compressor

The total cost to fix Bryan’s mistakes: $2,360 — and Bryan refused to reimburse a single cent until he was ordered in arbitration.

    Ductwork – Even Worse
Months later, I discovered water pooling in the ducts, crushed lines, and condensation dripping from nearly every vent. A professional inspection revealed that:

    No proper measurements were done

Ducts were installed without considering airflow or attic temperature

Insulation and sealing were poorly executed

Estimated cost to replace and remediate: $13,000.

    Arbitration and Legal Judgment
I filed a formal dispute through Thumbtack. Bryan agreed to arbitration — and lost. He was found liable for the faulty condenser repair and ordered to pay. He then ignored the ruling.

After months of delay, I began converting the arbitration award into a formal court judgment. Only then did Bryan reappear, offering a payment plan in exchange for reinstatement on Thumbtack. I agreed, and he was reinstated — but once again, he broke the agreement and stopped paying.

    False Claims and Misrepresentation
Bryan claims I’ve refused inspections. This is false. He never documented a single measurement during ductwork installation, and his only attempt at “inspection” came after visible damage was already done — with no licensed rep offered, just him, again. He also claims he doesn’t own or operate his own website, where he advertises with a license that isn't his.

In a public response, he admits to having no assets in his name to avoid collection — which should alarm anyone thinking about legal recourse if things go wrong.

    The Pattern
Let’s be clear: this isn’t about a single bad job. It’s about a pattern of negligence, dishonesty, and evasion of responsibility:

    Failed condenser repair

    Improper ductwork installation

Arbitration loss and refusal to pay

    Broken settlement agreement

    False claims in public responses

Now dodging responsibility by claiming no assets

    Final Note
I’ve documented every email, inspection report, repair invoice, and arbitration ruling. I’ll be sharing that publicly so others can make their own informed decision. If you’re considering Happy Wife AC or Bryan Purefoy, I strongly urge you to look elsewhere. The damage he caused has cost me thousands — and the stress has cost even more.

In response to Bryan's response below:

    1. “We gave you a free loaner condenser the night your illegally wired unit blew up in the tech’s face.”
False. A licensed electrician reviewed the wiring and stated there were no issues. It was wired exactly as it had been for years without issue. There was no “explosion.” What happened was the result of your own improper work, which leaked refrigerant in your face. That right there should have told me you were ill equipped to do the job. Also, a loaner condenser is not a favor—it’s a temporary fix you offered because you could not fix it that night, even after being here for hours. Facts matter, Bryan.

Update: the mini split has now failed as well. Less than a year later. Every dime I've paid to this person has resulted in damage to my property or non working equipment.

Update: As of Feb 2026 I now have water damage in my attic and on my celling because of Bryan's horrible work. I am still dealing with this ordeal and need to have everything he did redone.,

I hired Happy Wife A/C for routine HVAC maintenance and ended up very disappointed with the experience overall.

The biggest problem was repeated missed appointments and poor communication. The owner Bryan told me several times that he would come out on specific dates/times, but he either showed up hours late, days late, or not at all. I had to constantly follow up to get an ETA or to find out if/when he was actually coming back to finish the job or check on issues with my system.

At one point, I came home and found that my system wasn’t running correctly—the compressor/condenser was not running when there was a call for cooling. I was told he would come back out yesterday to take a look, but he never showed and never contacted me to reschedule. At that point, I felt I had no choice but to hire another company to get the system working again.

To his credit, the original technician did note that there were burned high-voltage wires and a weak capacitor at the condenser and left the power off due to a potential fire hazard, which I appreciate. But the follow-through to actually resolve the situation and get my system reliably cooling again just didn’t happen, despite multiple promises and follow-ups on my end.

I ended up calling another company, who came out, diagnosed a bad defrost control board, and replaced it under warranty. After that, my system started working properly again.

Based on my experience, I would not use Happy Wife A/C again. If you do decide to hire them, I’d recommend getting clear, written appointment times and being prepared to follow up a lot—and double-check that your system is actually running correctly after the work is done.

I had some bad experiences with my former HVAC company and so I had a bunch of top rated companies come out to give me an estimate for a new system. I am very happy that we choose Carr. They have been great! They have done several things that lead me to believe that they are a trustworthy company that is not out to over sell and over charge, as with some other companies. They did great work and when our thermostat was found to be faulty (not their fault) they took care of the warranty and replaced it quickly. They were able to work with our requests and have great employees. It's been over a year and I just had our 1-year check up that was included in our original cost. Chris came out and he was wonderful and thorough. I highly recommend this company if you are looking for a trustworthy HVAC company in the area.

I called Carr this morning for a non working Air Conditioner. They showed up less than 2 hours later. Chris the technician was very personable and professional. He diagnosed the issue. Checked his computer to see if the unit was under warranty. It was! Save us hundreds of dollars. He called the parts store. Went and picked up the parts. Returned and installed the parts. A/C working perfectly! I was so impressed I asked if he had time to repair another unit down the street. He said, no problem. Went to the other property and he fixed that unit also! Again so impressed I had him schedule another unit for service on Monday! Great company and great technician!

We were extremely impressed with Chris Wolf at Carr Air Conditioning & Heating. Our AC went out twice this month. Both times Chris Wolf came to the rescue like a superhero! He was very knowledgeable and the prices were comparable. On the second visit, Chris explained we needed a new compressor. Before he returned to fix the compressor he learned/ researched that our unit had a 10 yr warranty on it and that he was able to repair the AC at a significantly less amount than he had previously thought. We were unaware of the warranty and grateful he took the time to do this on his own. He was able to come back out that very same day and do "open heart surgery" and repair the AC compressor. Thank you Chris for your hard work, time, and research. I would strongly recommend Chris Wolf & Carr AC & Heating.

I needed someone to fix my Hayward pool heat pump which I found out not everyone does. Carr was recommended and I am very happy with the outcome. The appointment was for 8:00AM and Chris, the technician, was right on time. Plus, he called prior to arriving to let me know that he was on the way. When he got here, he was concerned that I had the purchase records because it should still be under warranty if parts were needed. However, no major part replacement was needed and it was up and running again in less than an hour. Chris was affable and professional throughout.

We had a pool heater crisis and Christmas was here. Chris came out, diagnosed the problem and had the parts and knowledge to fix it. 5 star guy. If you need a service person, you need Chris!

    Perfect. Carr for the win

Scheduled A/C tuneup /cleaning, first time with Carr (from the Duke approved list), very pleased with their service. Tech Chris goes above and beyond, extremely thorough, 2 hours + inspection with full report, took time to walk me through everything and answer my questions including many DIY tips, highly recommend one of their maintenance packages…money well spent.

Chris came to help us out with our compressor. He could not find anything seriously wrong, hooked it up, showed us how to properly take care of it, and made a call for us to check on our warranty. He did not rip us off and helped us tremendously. Will definitely use Carr again.

We had an emergency and called Carr in the middle of the night. They had a wonderful technician, Chris, here by 10am and he was able to identify the problem, source parts, and repair the heater by noon. He was kind and helpful and walked us through the repairs to make us feel confident in the solution. They were fairly priced, honest, and courteous. Would absolutely (and will!) recommend them to family and loved ones.

The entire business very professional. Referred to Carr's when my AC stopped working over the weekend (of course!). I know this will sound strange, but I really liked that their message also listed the hours for weekend emergency service.

Chris the service tech arrived promptly and went right to work and found the problem right away. He worked quickly and done in good time. Chris was very pleasant to work with. I live on 2nd floor, so there were several trips up and down stairs in Fla heat, but he remained cheerful and friendly - even made extra trips when he kindly volunteered to take my recycling and trash.

Business is professional, available and prices seem fair. I would certainly use them again. A++

We had Carr come out to reconnect the drain line on our new A/C (done by Carr as well), Chris was on time, very professional, friendly, polite, and fast. All around very satisfied with his professional service and super satisfied with this company. All of their work is very clean, always very respectful, and always honest. I would highly highly recommend.

The technicians at Carr AC & Heating are very knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. They were able to answer all of our questions and explain their recommendations to us. After our installation we had a brief glitch but the guys came back immediately (in the pouring rain) to fix it and we have had no issues since. Highly recommend this company!

I was researching around the area for a great AC company to do some maintenance on our system, and I stumbled on Carr AC and seen they were a local, family owned business with tons of great reviews. And now I can see why!!

Chris came out to our house to provide the AC maintenance and was very kind, courteous, professional, and educational!

    - He walked me through briefly what he was going to do before he did it.

    - He pointed out what objects and mechanisms were doing what on my AC system in a way for a layman like me to understand.

    - He gave me several recommendations & tips for maintenance and upkeep that my wife and I can do for our system to keep our system working well (and our costs low).

    - He recommended that we can call our energy provider to come out and do a specific test to see if had any leaks in our vents, explaining that it might contribute to reducing energy bills if an issue was found and fixed.

    - He found a part on our AC unit that needed to be fixed, and he showed me where it was, explained what it did, and showed me the device he used to test it, how it was failing, and why it needed to be replaced. This walk through makes me feel very comfortable and confident that Chris is an excellent craftsman and cares about the customers he services.

    - He also noted there was another part in our outside unit that was showing wear and tear, that didn't need to be replaced yet, but it would need to be next summer. This was very valuable to know so my family can plan for the next expense & service.

After this excellent service, I'm going to continue to patronize Carr AC for as long as we're both here.

Thank you guys for being so awesome!

I had a thermostat issue and limited time to get it fixed. I called Carr and they were able to send Chris out in a timely manner. A small issue turned out to be a little bigger than originally thought but saved us money and time in the long run. Chris was very professional and explained everything so that I could understand. He was great, fixed the problem, and I will continue to use them again in the future!

Chris, the technician from Carr's came out and diagnosed and fixed my A/C system quickly and efficiently. Chris was extremely honest and saved me from spending thousands of dollars on a new system. Before I called Carr's, I was told by a different A/C service company in Pinnellas County, I needed to completely replace my system because it was beyond repair. Thankfully I called Carr's. Highly recommend!

Carr replaced our entire Ac/heat central system. They were honest and the prices were very fair. The crew was hard working and friendly. The crew kept us informed as they went forward with the installation. The crew cleaned up as they went along and asked if we were happy with their work. Their worked passed city inspection the first time and the inspector was very complimentary of their work. We would recommend Carr to anyone needing Ac/heat service or installation. Thank you Carr for a job well done !
