Always have a great experience with Sean McCutcheon’s air conditioning service. Recently had my yearly maintenance and he was thorough and did a great job. Always so polite too. They take pictures of everything they do and always clean up afterwards. I highly recommend them!

I needed a new AC unit and they were the only place I called. I researched them online and decided to go with them. They were prompt, respectful, thorough, and most of all reasonably priced. I worked with Greg and Marcus and both were true experts and professionals. My AC unit was installed quickly and he cleaned up afterwards..the best! Call them, you'll be glad you did! UPDATE: As per our agreement with purchase of a new unit I am entitled to two free maintenance visits for 1 year. I have called to schedule one and the soonest I can get is 4-6 months out. I am gathering that since I already paid for the visits folks are less likely to honor them. Moreover, I sent them an email very recently to have someone call me. It has been 2 or 3 weeks and no call. Today their competition is here performing maintenance. Unfortunately, I find SM AC less likely to be at the top of my list now, and I am surprised to say that. Finally, great service, good techs, fair price, but poor follow-up.

Cutter arrived at our house. First time here. I explained to him what our problem was and the first thing he said. Was don't worry I will get you up and running. Which he did. Very impressed with him. He explained everything he needed to do and was very friendly and easy to deal with. Highly recommend.

I would highly recommend this business when it comes to any AC work you have. Everything from start to finish was amazing, even the initial phone call to the receptionist Kathy was great. The technician that came, Zach, was polite, listened to our concerns, then went right to work. He fixed everything, cleaned up the area and was thorough about determining the issue. We felt he was honest and what we believe went above and beyond. We would use these guys again and again for sure. Great experience.

This is a great HVAC company! They are honest and fairly priced. They do a thorough inspection of your system and provide you with a detailed report and a clear explanation of any issues or potential issues. Best of all they do not try to sell you upgrades or add on’s that you really don’t need. Our technician’s name was Cutter, he was very knowledgeable, professional and humble and a great asset to this fine company.
We own a Home Watch Company and have recommended them to many of our clients all of whom have had similar excellent experiences.

We needed to replace our system, of course it stopped working right in the middle of August at the hottest possible time. McCutcheon's team was responsive, prompt, and consultative throughout the entire process of evaluating our options for the new system. Timing, pricing, and nuanced technical details were all thoroughly covered by their team to help me understand the difference between the various choices of AC units out on the market.

The install happened on time and went very smoothly and stress free. It's clear that Zach, Jeremiah and Richard are experts at what they do and they approached the whole situation with friendly attitudes and the highest degree of professionalism and expertise for their craft.

I'm glad I called McCutcheon - we will definitely be using them for our regular AC needs going forward.

Before sharing my experience, I’d like to provide a brief background to help explain why I am qualified to offer this review. I have over 40 years of experience in the HVAC industry, including 17 years with Carrier Corporation. My career began as a certified field technician, after which I moved into a field supervisor role. From there, I transitioned into account management and ultimately served as a senior sales representative. I currently oversee the mechanical operations of the facilities department at a university.

Recently, my condominium complex in Longboat Key, Florida, underwent a major roofing project involving all mid-rise buildings. As part of this work, every condensing unit needed to be removed to allow for roof replacement and installation of new mounting platforms. Sean McCutcheon’s Air Conditioning and Heating, Inc. was involved in this project and offered all unit owners a discounted price to replace their HVAC systems while the crane was already on-site.

Although my existing system was still operational, I knew it was nearing the end of its useful life. I accepted their offer and proceeded with a full system replacement. They installed a Bryant system (a Carrier brand) in December 2023.

Fast forward to the weekend of June 13, 2025 — I noticed that my new system wasn’t cooling properly. The interior temperature continued to rise throughout the day, and the system ran non-stop without reaching setpoint. I do not live in Florida full-time and didn’t have my diagnostic tools on hand, so I called Sean McCutcheon’s and placed a service request. I spoke with a representative who informed me there would be a $189 service charge to have a technician diagnose the issue. I agreed.

The technician arrived and confirmed a refrigerant leak in the condenser coil, showing me a video of the leak as proof.

He told me the coil was under warranty and that I would receive a proposal for the replacement by the end of the day or the following morning.

Before leaving, he informed me that the visit would actually cost $239 due to a $50 “extended travel area” charge. This was not disclosed when I initially called, even though they knew the service location was Longboat Key — a place they service regularly.

To add to my frustration, he tacked on another $39 charge for a “leak check,” despite using basic soap bubbles to find the leak in less than 15 minutes.

$2,897.00 to replace the warrantied condenser coil.
This was outrageous for a warranty repair. I immediately called the office and asked to speak with someone knowledgeable. On Tuesday, June 17th, a supervisor returned my call.

I explained my background, which he seemed skeptical of. I walked him through the issues, starting with the original $189 quote and the surprise travel and leak check charges. He had no good answers. When I questioned the $39 leak check fee, his response was that it covers “wear and tear on the leak detector.” I told him how ridiculous that sounded, especially since the leak was found with soap bubbles. His response? “We don’t work for charity.”

At that point, he lost all credibility.

$1,111 Labor to Install Warranty Coil – No mention of labor credit from the manufacturer.

$724 for R-410A Refrigerant – My system takes under 7 lbs, which puts their rate at over $103/lb. The cost of R-410A is around $10/lb wholesale (based on a 25-lb cylinder priced at ~$250). A 10x markup is excessive by any standard.

After pushing back, I received as an alternative to repair (not replace) the coil:

    Final Thoughts
There is no chance I would ever use this company again. The original $278 I paid for the diagnostic visit turned out to be the best $278 I’ve ever spent, because it prevented me from spending thousands more on what I believe was a grossly inflated and misleading quote for a basic warranty repair.

To others: be cautious. Just because a company is well-known doesn’t mean they operate with integrity.

Why so many of the 5 star reviews show as newly added but the response from the owner is over a year ago. Might be a glitch. (Also Looks they may be manipulating the Google reviews system. like the reviews were recently updated so they show as recent?).

I now this company has done really good work in the past but their prices have become pretty outrageous. They show up and don't brake anything but their rates are to high.

15 years ago I asked Sean Mccutcheon to give me a quote to install a new AC for my home in Venice FL. Over the last 15 years, all of the service and maintenance techs, have made sure my AC, is always running in top notch form. Several times, even in the middle of summer, in the dead of night, they have been there for my family. Yesterday, after 15 years, at 4:00 PM, the blower motor, went out. Oh no!! I made the call to the office, and within 30 minutes, Cutter, the service tech, arrived at our house, with a new motor. 90 minutes later, with the heat index of 103 degrees, we had cool air. Cutter was professional, kind, and very knowledgeable. He went through the entire system with a fine tooth comb, and made sure everything was working perfectly, before he left. For 15 years, no matter what the problem is, no matter what time of day, they have always had our back! Thank you everyone at Sean Mccutcheon. We greatly appreciate you!!!

This team is to be commended. I have used them over the years and all aspects of service are the best I have found with anyone working on my house. Yesterday it was cold and the heater did not work. We called and they said they were extremely busy but would try to fit us in. 2 hours later a technician stopped by and serviced our unit and fixed two electrical issues. Young technician who was very polite and professional I was pleased but not surprised as this has been how they have supported us for the last 10 years.

Matt came to my home this evening on an emergency call and made sure my unit was running perfectly before he left. He didnt rush through. He took his time and thouroughly looked over my system. He was professional and courteous. Thanks Matt!!

Hunter, Richie, and Lee from McCutcheon worked hard to do a quality job installing the new system. They were professional, courteous, and also meticulous for the most part. They were a very good installation team. The system is working well.

McCutcheon also followed up promptly with me on some questions I had.

This is a top notch HVAC company with outstanding personnel.

John just left after a very thorough AC maintenance visit. He went above and beyond, even though I was his last visit today, he did not cut any corners. He was so conscientious and did not leave a stone unturned. He explained everything he did, even taking pictures and videos of the process. I can’t say enough good things about John and Sean McCutcheon’s for quality, reliable HVAC system care. I have a maintenance plan that includes twice yearly checkups.
