HVAC reviews in Columbia, Maryland

I called to get more information on freon evacuation of our outdoor unit and to price removal. From the onset the lady I spoke with had an attitude and mid sentence hung up on me. I called back no answer.
After your reply I still wouldn't contact your company for any of my air conditioning or heating issues. Why would I want to work with a company like this. Thanks, but no thanks. -
I've left three messages for them to get back to me. I haven't yet received a call. I used the pay monthly service and am too far ahead in paying... preparing for litigation to get my money back unless they calm back soon.

At an event in Columbia, MD. The slowest moving Griffith employee (truck driver) shows up, parks in the middle of a parking lot and ties us up for 30 minutes. There are many empty more convenient spaces BUT NO! Let’s park in the middle of the event. Call the 800#, how am I driving, goes to incorrect staff. What makes this a more horrific experience is how slow this employee moves. You can tell Griffith picks winners. He movements to hold us and our event up were deliberate. Then to be even more spiteful he comes back a second time and hold us up again. Why have an 800 number if you’re not able to track your trucks?

It went well. The only issue I had was the way the man spoke to me. He treated me as I was an invalid. He came to my door to give me the bill. He said he had to go back and remove part of it because I had a contract. So I stood on the porch. He said he would see if he could remove it. Walked down the steps. So I stood on the porch looking over the bill waiting to bring the new one to me. He stopped and asked me if he needed to explain again. I looked at him and said no. He said. Ok. I am done you can go back in. WAIT??! What???
It was the way he said it as if I was mentally disabled. I'm not. I work for a large corporation and have two BA degrees. Please do not talk to me in that tone again. -
I cancelled my account in July and move out of my rental in August. Then they delivery oil in January to my old address and charge me saying I never cancelled the account and it will be turned over for collection if it's not paid. I sure am happy to pay $200 for some strangers oil.

I was having the annual maintenance service done on my furnace. The technician arrived 15 mins before the appointed time which was perfect as I had other things planned for the day and was hoping he would be on time or early. Will continue to use them.

We have been customers for 4 years in Columbia and have a service plan. Today is Tuesday and we've been without heat since Saturday. No one has returned our phone calls, no one has shown up. Why are we paying for service we don't get? I don't know what's going on with this company now, but they are literally doing nothing for us.
-
Our serviceman arrived, right on time, with a smile on his face and ready to get to work. He was very efficient, explained everything he did to my furnace, oil tank and air conditioner, and was gone in an hour. I highly recommend Griffith Energy Services, Inc.

Highly deceptive practices for the purpose of illicitly appropriating large sums of money are the norm in this business (Griffith Energy, Hyattsville, Cheverly Office). When I purchased a new home they transferred a Gold Membership contract from a previous home owner to me without my knowledge and consent.
Soon after, they scheduled a "courtesy visit" advertised as "free" and later charged me around 400$ because I was a Gold member (which I never elected to be nor knew I was). Their fraudulent charges are hidden under vague names such as "Miscellaneous" so you do not catch on to their scams until later.
Check your Griffith charges closely and record your conversations with them because every time I spoke to them I received a different (contradictory) answer. Like any scammer, they have a hard time keeping their story straight. Unless you want to watch Griffith stealing your money and spend your time trying to get it back, I strongly advise you to find another business for your needs. -
RUN!! their tech broke my furnace and they left me without heat for 14 days! Could have busted my pipes. Took no responsibility and fumbled every opportunity to correct their mistake. Their President Mr. Groft told his techs to leave me be in the cold, regular scrooge. Instead of fixing the mistake hey tried to sell me a new furnace for $5K, kind people they are! So I did my own research and replaced the motor for next to nothing. Furnace works fine idiots! These people lie from day one. Watch out, record everything. Go with anyone but these scam artist. You've been warned!!

I would rate this place 0 stars if I could. I was promised delivery on a Wednesday. It didn't come. I received no phone call. I called. They said they would have someone contact me immediately. Nobody called. I called the next day. They said it would come Friday. There is a blizzard forecasted for Friday. I asked to speak to a manager. He didn't pick up. This is the second year in a row this has happened. They say to call 48 hours before you run out of oil, which I did. Get your oil from somewhere else. This place is a joke.

We purchased a hvac. But we did not sign up for a maintenance plan. We have been trying for almost one year to get customer service to stop billing. I have not had luck on the telephone with customer service so have resorted to sending letters to Grffith. Still unresponsive. Why is this so difficult for this company to answer their phone and get billing correct.

Excellent job.
The technicians were very conscientious, we have a house built in 1890 with plaster ceilings and they took great efforts to avoid plaster cracks.
Great attention to detail in the installation of the air handler unit & duct work.
Glad I went with Griffith. -
Overall, terrible service, communication, and unreliable. Rates are bait and switch, offering coupons for discounts you cannot use unless you pay in person or by check, not online. They either don't deliver fuel on time, or they deliver too much when you don't need it and charge more than you were quoted every single delivery. I've used heating oil companies / resellers for 20+ years, and I've never had this much difficulty getting a fair price, and service. If you call them, you get a bad attitude and changing stories.

We use griffith to for oil delivery and to service our furnace. They've kept our boiler in great shape. We just had our furnace serviced for the upcoming heating season. The tech they sent named Greg L was excellent. He did a very thorough job and left the jobsite very clean. He was very pleasant to interact with and answered some questions about how my furnace operates. I'll be requesting Greg to service my furnace next year.

Incompetence on an insane level. My warranty company arranged for an emergency weekend repair since my AC was dead and we had high heat. I call them first thing Saturday morning to get this nightmare rolling. They say they received the work order, confirmed it as an emergency, and that a crew will contact me sometime that day when they're nearby. As they couldn't tell me when they'd call or how close they'd be, I would need to stay close by the house to make sure I was home. This means I have to bail on all our Saturday plans so I can stay close and sit around in the oven.
Hour after hour goes by and no call. I call 6 times throughout the day and each time they assure me the crew is working towards me and that they requested they contact me with an ETA. By midnight, I just call and ask why no one showed or called. They say they had my wrong phone number and couldn't reach me. Probably a flat out lie. I get it corrected and called my warranty company later to confirm they sent the right # on the work order. Anyway, they promise they'll have the crew at my house at 8am Sunday.
I wake up early and guess what, no call and no show once again. 10 am rolls around and I call again to ask what the hell is going on. A Tech finally texts me and says they were never going to show up to my house this weekend anyway as emergency repairs are only for existing customers and to call him tomorrow to schedule a time. That would have been really great if any of the 6 other people had told me this instead of lying to me and stringing me along.
As far as I can tell, just a giant collection of dumbasses. -
I was billed 2 months after I moved out of the house for the new home owners, been going back-and-forth for over a year now with Griffith who told me they would correct the situation. I have now been sebt to collections for an amount that I was billed after I moved out of the house. Customer service was no help and I received no call backs from any managers regarding the situation. I've called columbia office over 10 times after ever bill I received to fix situation.

I would prefer to give no stars but that isn't an option.
On February 18, 2024 I woke up in a very cold house. No heat.
Called 800 number at 7 a.m. and left message. No response. At 8 a.m. called again, spoke with lady who said someone would be out that day as we have the 365/24 hour plan. House very very cold. We are both in our 90s. Called again at 3:30 p.m. was told we had called wrong 800 number and to call Frederick number which I knew nothing about. Called and told they would relay to technician. Called again about 5:30; told same thing.
Tech showed up Monday morning. Not happy and would like you to refund our money.
your company is not so good. -
Despite having been a customer for 21 years with great service, what has happened in the past 36 hours erases all of that. We are on automatic oil delivery and they neglected to fill our tank. Of course we ran out of oil on a morning that was 14 degrees. It was 52 degrees in our house. This, also of course, happened on a Sunday of a holiday weekend with a snowstorm arriving that day. I started trying to call. I left 5 messages over 5 hours. Somebody finally called me back and assured me a tech would be here to reset the furnace and bring enough oil to get us to today. That did not happen and nobody called me to tell me nobody would be here. So I wake up to a house in the 50s (despite spending over $150 in electric heaters) and start calling again. They are assuring me that they'll be out today. I'll believe it when I see it. We have been customers that have paid ON TIME for 21 years. After this winter, we are going with a company that has not sold out to a huge conglomerate. What has happened to us is absolutely inexcusable.

On May 10, 2016, we had a new furnace installed. It was not an easy job. The furnace was in a very awkward and very small area with a hot water heater right next to it. The installers were forewarned with some photos about the challenges facing them to get this job done. Promptly at 8:00 a.m. this morning 4 technicians arrived to start the installation. What a great group of guys. Somehow they figured a way to take out the old furnace without having to take out the hot water heater which was a feat in itself. They all worked diligently with skill, endurance and ingenuity. It took them a little over eight hours to do the job - keeping us informed throughout the day as to how things were going and explained things to us in layman's terms along the way. We couldn't have been more pleased with their performance and the quality of their work. They were also very neat and quite polite. We would highly recommend them to anyone interested in having a job done well.

Update: Griffith energy went above and beyond to rectify the situation. I spoke with Janette at the Columbia office, Stephanie Hurst in VA, and Kevin Spain in the PR department. They each worked very hard and were able to get my tank refilled and heat back on in an extremely timely manner. I am very appreciative and will recommend them in the future.
They don’t answer the phone and the remote monitoring does not work. You will run out of fuel with these guys. Don’t subscribe.
