HVAC reviews in Grand Rapids, Michigan

While the service was prompt (within two of first contact), I didn't feel heard about the AC issues I was having. Instead of listening how my system had worked great for 7+ years, the kid was ready to sign me up for a redo of my entire second floor ducts and relocate the thermostat. As a back-up, I could opt for a mini-split - essentially adding a unit to the wall of my upscale home with "little eye-sore." I tried to explain that everything had been fine for a long time, despite the limitation the thermostat location posed, and needed to point out several cold air returns that were missed on his assessment of why it wasn't working well.
They then charged me nearly $1000 to clean two blowers - a cost I am now told was exorbitant. I felt I was forced into this decision since it was going to cost a lot more to do either of the other options and that it would also be more expensive if I were to think about it and have them come back another time. In the "heat" of the moment, I decided this was the best option, since I knew my system had been sufficient and didn't need a complete ductwork overhaul.
After calling another company a couple of weeks later, I found out the capacitors were bad in both my units, something GRapids never even checked. Additionally, there was excessive debris in the units that simply needed to be sprayed out - also not assessed and easily remedied. Both units are now working more efficiently at a fraction of the cost charged by Grapids. -
We had a kitchen drain that was getting worse over time as it was very slow draining to not draining. Andrew worked on it with a snake for quite awhile and did it several times to make sure that the clog was gone and the drain was running smooth again. The clog was at least 25+ feet into the pipe and it was stubborn but Andrew did not give up until it was fixed!! I highly recommend him at Grapids.he was very nice and so thorough. Will definately ask for him if we need services in the future.

Very impressed by level of professionalism and friendliness, from appointment intake by Anthony to Evan and James the electrician and technician who repaired an electrical wiring problem in our older home and did a maintenance tuneup on our furnace. Definitely recommend Grapids Home Services and will be calling them first for future repairs and installations.

Won a free HVAC tuneup review and Hudson did a great job. He was super helpful and communicative and extra professional. This company is not pushy and doesnāt try and over sell services. - they have families comfort and safety in mind. Refreshing experience.

Grapids recently did an inspection and new furnace/air conditioner install for my Grandma. They were prompt to do the inspection, honest of their findings and honest with the options they gave her. They went above and beyond to get her scheduled and taken care of immediately. Above all things, she said she felt safe, respected and cared for. We would never choose another company for our HVAC services; they have customers for life.

We were very disappointed in the services provided by GRapids. We replaced our entire furnace and it did not solve the problem we had to begin with. It ended up being a wire issue that they claimed was rare to cause the problem. While we wouldāve needed to replace our furnace within the next few years due to the problems they found, ultimately we wouldnāt have spent the thousands of dollars at this point in time. After leaving several voicemails asking to speak to management about their error, I was finally able to get ahold of someone. They acknowledged our frustration but denied the request for some kind of reparation/discount. When a different employee followed up to check in, I expressed our disappointment in not getting a discount. She said sheād see what she could do but I never heard back. We understand mistakes happen, just wish they wouldāve taken responsibility for it.

Efforts to install my furnace were met with size difference and they had to go through another way. This worked out but added time to complete the job. Then they discovered that I need another intake ductš¤¦š»āāļø well after thorough investigation to assure not stone was unturned we agreed where the new duct could go. This will be done another day. But for sure pride was taken in doing the job correctly and for what will get the best results for the operation of my new furnace! I look forward to continuing my working relationship with these installer and this company! Job well done!

Horrible experience with this company. I previously had them work on my boiler system and replace the electronics with venting fans. So, when my hot water heater started leaking I thought Iād try them again for a hot water heater replacement.
The sales rep came out and took pictures. He said he could do a swap for 2600.12. I said fine. His dispatcher calls and says they can install the same afternoon and would send a tech. I thought great letās get it done.
When the tech arrives he says they gave him the wrong equipment. Next heās says itās not up to code for ventilation. I explained they are the ones who worked on it previously about 5 years ago and I asked when the code changed the tech didnāt know, but said a new sales rep would come out. The tech explained that he couldnāt do the install.
The new sales rep that comes out acts like he didnāt even know what was going on. The first option he discusses is an up sale to a boiler hot water heater combo for 18,000. Next he says he might be able to run a new vent and line for over 4,000 dollars but he would have to check with his engineer and leaves for the day.
Next morning I wake up to no hot water because the tech that came out disconnected the hookups to my hot water heater and unhooked the vent fan to my boiler. Now their sales rep/supervisor says that canāt replace the system and I would have to go somewhere else or install it myself if I donāt buy their boiler system combo.
Very unprofessional company and was a complete waste of my
time. Buyers beware they will leave you worse than they found you, or attempt to up sale you. They did say theyāll have some reconnect everything, but Iām still waiting. -
Grapids came out same day to unclog our kitchen sink. The technician was very knowledgeable and helpful. He was able to get the sink unclogged quickly and provided recommendations to avoid the same issue from occuring in the future. We will definitely be using Grapids again!

Got same day appointment and the technician is really helpful. Identified the issue with thermostat and recommend to get new one. Connected the old one as temporary option to have the furnace running. Overall 5 star service.

For a recent HVAC issue, Grapids was a pleasure to work with from start to finish, from my first phone call to them right through to completion of the job. The phone scheduling person who arranged the service (I've forgotten his name) was very helpful, and to my delight we were able to get a technician scheduled the same day.
When the technician arrived, James, it was evident immediately that he has total command of the trade, and he knew what our HVAC system needed and how to diagnose any issues. James explained everything in detail and I had total confidence that I was with someone I could trust. I was given a four hour window for his arrival, and I received a call from him sharing when to expect him. He was well within the arrival window, very respectful of property, and thoroughly pleasant.
I highly recommend Grapids and I'm sure I will use them again in the future. -
Blake and his associate arrived promptly at the specified time. They were very polite and diagnosed the problem with the furnace very quickly. They presented me with 3 options to fix the issue. I am quite pleased with the outcome. I intend to use Grapids more going forward as a result of this experience.

Weāve had several services completed by Grapids Home Services, all handled by Gary, and we couldnāt be happier. Gary was friendly, professional, and extremely knowledgeable.
He installed a new shower faucet, replaced a sink faucet, and rerouted our downstairs bathroom water line to the water softenerāsomething the previous owners never did, which had been causing ongoing issues. His biggest save was finding a smart solution to install our new dishwasher. Because the original plumbing ran down into a finished basement ceiling with no access, Gary designed a new setup that runs under the cabinet faces to the kitchen sink, giving us proper shut-offs and easy access going forward.
Gary took the time to clearly explain the plan, offered options, and pointed out issues we didnāt even realize we had. The quality of work and pricing were both excellent. Weāre very satisfied and will absolutely call Grapids Home Services againāand will definitely request Gary for future work. -
Very quick response furnace went out Wednesday night. Thursday morning they called me a person arrived measured for met furnace. Thursday afternoon was. Scheduled for new furnace install. Everyone so fare very friendly and very efficient. Very cost effective. At this point could not be happier!

Grapids and your cre came out, did an exceptional job at fixing our problem by installing a new water heater. Thank you so much for coming out and helping us on such short notice.

Horrible company, do not hire. We originally had them come out to look at our water heater that had leaked and ended up getting a new water heater, furnace, and air conditioner unit. We did need a new ac unit as told by another company previously but after talking to some other people we feel we were wildly overcharged for these units to be installed.
They also said they did plumbing and we had an issue with a small leak in our one pipe and low water pressure in the kitchen sink. They sent out an estimator who we now know was not a plumber. He told us during his time with us that he worked on commission (giant red flag) and that we'd need to replace the entire homes pipes from galvanized. He couldn't fully explain why or what the problem was, as well as telling us that the three options he presented us with, the only one really worth it was the most expensive. We felt like it was really weird. He also questioned us when we had told him we got a discount for paying cash for the previous units and if he could check if the same would be true for the plumbing work.
Thankfully we called another company for a second opinion as they told us the 16k quote was a job they could do for 3k at most and was unnecessary.
We also had an electrician come from grapids to finish the ground line on the furnace and he forgot to switch one thing on the outlet, leaving us without heat for almost 24 hours in sub zero temps.
Horrible company, hard to get ahold of local dispatch, highly overcharged, will scam you with shoddy work. -
BEWARE!!! This company uses scare techniques, price gouging, and LIES!! We had a water leak under our sink and in the basement. We contacted them to get an assessment. Mark informed us that we needed a new s-strap under the sink and that the leak was coming from our RO system. He turned the water off to that. We showed him the plumbing in the basement and he said that there were no leaks there and it was not coming from the old cast iron stack that goes out to the city line. We were going to have the s-trap replaced for $303.00. Then the next day there was a ton more water leaking in the basement, we called the back and they sent out Brandon the drain specialist. We showed him the old stack in the basement and that a pipe had come off from the sewer vent fume and the connection from under the sink. We thought the drain might be backed up. He sent Marshall over to do a camera scope of the whole system. Most of it was redone a few years before we bought the house. Marshall says that we are in real trouble and need to have the stack and the remaining cast iron replaced from the house the city connection. They need an excavator and Misdig to come out. They will need to dig down 10 feel and then another 13 feet over. It's going to cost over $4,000. We get bullied into the financing because we are not well off, we need the water to stop leaking. He tells us no interest for a year. I then explain to him that we have Mark coming over the next day who diagnosed the problem as only the s-trap and RO system leaking. Marshall says he will cancel this, put the entire thing in one bill, and not charge us for that part since we are getting this larger project done. I till him that we are getting a new counter and sink which will be lower down, should we wait and not have the s-trap done since he is now saying that is now causing the leak. He says, no, keep i scheduled with Mark pay him and when you get the new sink in, we will come back, no charge. Well, Eric Roberts who identifies himself as the plumbing supervisor shows up two days later with NO TOOLS in his truck. Mind you, the dispatcher says, "we come with a fully stocked truck". Eric then asks to borrow our shovel. I am appalled, my husband lends him the shovel. The excavator NEVER comes, misdig never comes and they only dig down 3 feet!!!! They leave trash, mud, and old plumbing parts in the yard. Track mud all over the stairs and basement, leave more trash, and don't clean it up. They leave. THE SINK STARTS LEAKING 3 hours later. He fixes it. I put up a bad review. Eric Roberts calls me back. I tell him that we will not pay $4,400 via the financing for a 3 foot hole dug by hand. They charged us TWICE for excavation on the bill. He says all he can do is say sorry, they dropped the ball. I am upset, ask for a reduction in the price and say now we have to pay another plumber $1,000 to come and fix the leak, and move the drains, s-trap an vent they put under the sink. He says he will call my back by the end of the week. This was over a week ago. I send the pictures of the work that they did to the finance company who agrees with me that this should not have been charged what is was and she contacts them. Someone else named Paul will call me back. He never does. I am frustrated, tired, and ripped off. STAY AWAY!!! Never use this company. They are liars, do terrible work, and rip off hard working neighbors. I wanted to use a small local company down the road from me, wanted to trust that they would fix it. I even took down my original review, trusting that Eric would adjust the price and call me back like he promised. That was all lies. I am a nurse, i work very hard for my money, helping others, I suppose I should have read more google reviews about this company because there are many bad ones saying the same thing. We will have to pay $3,500 for a 3 foot hole dug. Now another plumber as well. I will call the better business bureau and potentially have to take legal action. I hope this helps others. I have attached a copy of the $3,500 3 foot hand dug excavation. With MY SHOVEL.

The tech that was sent was very pleasant and personable, however he seemed to have no knowledge of how our system works.
I was told he would inspect the entire system. He did not. He did get the unit in question to work properly with a minor mechanical adjustment and said if a problem arises again they would send a person who has worked on these units for a long time.
My expectation is that a knowledgeable person will be sent on the first call. -
Furnace check up and water heater flush. Drew was amazing! He was kind, helpful, knowledgeable and didn't try to upsell me on anything. He went above and beyond and helped me with my humidifier as well. I also got a quote for a new water heater (my ask). Price was very reasonable. Would definitely recommend and use them again!

The technician was very professional, efficient and courteous. You could tell he genuinely enjoyed his job and helping people. The technicians make all the difference. I will continue to choose GR home services due to your exemplary service from the very first call. I also appreciated the add on for the hot water heater flush Both services were very affordable.
