Constraction reviews in Bloomington, Minnesota

Louis & Ishmael are great the guys that did the work did a nice jo, I’m still waiting on the rest of the work to be finished. There’s a definite lack of communication between the office, and the guys out doing the work, and the home owners. My folks had them do their roof last year, and where very pleased! It could just be the amount of work going on this year? I was told once they where done with the roof that someone would be back out after they had left the next day to run a magnet around and pick up the last of any nails laying around, that never happened. We’ve picked up a ton of nails out of our patio, and driveway. They’re not huge things just stuff that I was told would be done , and wasn’t. I’m sure they’re having staffing issues the same as most others.
-
Great experience. Our contractor, Jeff, was amazing. Good communication throughout the process. He also stopped by after the job was completed to clean up any debris and nails that may have been missed. Highly recommended.
-
So far, so good! We just hired them for a roof replacement but their salesman was available to meet with us pretty much the same day and took time to answer all my dumb questions, of which I had money.
-
They removed our garage roof before the materials were delivered-said were on way, wanted to be ahead of schedule. Roof was measured incorrectly so wrong size materials came. Had to wait about 4 days for new materials. Project manager oversee too many jobs. Didn’t show when scheduled a couple times. We even took off work to meet him. No calls so I called him asking where he was and he said “Mankato”, mind you, we are located west of the cities a little over an hour. We had to call them a couple times on no shows/no calls. The crew that did the work was very nice. I would hire the crew separately. No organization communication from project mgr. no check list - we had our own. Lots of other small issues, they eventually were fixed.
-
Do not use these guys. I got scammed. They showed me photos of another roof with hail damage and pretended it was mine. We went through the whole claim process and there wasn’t even damage. Luis stopped responding to my messages and calls; he even sent some other guy to meet the insurance adjuster. A total waste of my time.

Viking contractors went above and beyond helping me recover and repair the loss to my roof from a hail storm. There was a tight timeliness my insurance was demanding but they made it happen for me! It seemed unbelievable that it was all filed and finished within such a short efficient timing! Great working with every member of the team thank you Viking Contractors!
-
A Viking representative did my roof inspection with no issues. She got here right on time, did the inspection quickly and helped me file the initial claim with the insurance company. Very professional work - she did a great job of informing me and explaining the process to me as well as answering all my questions!
-
I wasn’t impressed with them.
1. They didn’t show up for the insurance adjustment like they said they would, so I had to fight the battle on my own. Once I got approval for my insurance to cover the repair, they suddenly reappeared and seemed eager to help.
2. They cut corners on my home so I had to fight for a refund because an inspection would likely say “this doesn’t meet code.”
I would recommend you use another company. -
We have hail damage on our roof, sliding door and downspouts. Jeff from Viking has been fantastic in guiding us through the process including thoroughly identifying damages, filing the claim, and meeting with our insurance adjuster. Compared to most vendors today he continues to amaze me on his almost instant responsiveness (phone & text) and follow thru. Each visit he contacts you well ahead to let you know when he’s coming including updates to that schedule, unlike other vendors that I have to chase down or sit waiting and they are not on time.
The roof was completed on time. Jeff & crew chief returned to assure cleanup was in order & all my concerns answered. Still waiting on Soffit replacement & sliding door. -
Their office phone is answered by an automatic computer system called "Sophia" which was not helpful and a big waste of time. We finally scheduled a roof inspection, but the inspector never showed up for the 9:00am appointment. When I contacted the Viking office, they lied and said the inspector was there earlier and would come back. We know that's a lie because we were having breakfast on our front porch starting at 7:00 a.m. and no one came to our house that morning. They never contacted us again to reschedule. We found other roofing contractors who were much more responsive and easy to work with.

I will start with the good.... the roof looks great and passed final county inspection with no issues. The onsite crew was great but we did have some communication challenges due to language incompatibility. Not ideal, but we were able to work through it with the help of google translator. (don't accuse me of racism, I am just stating a fact that we had comms challenges). It was super hot too, so we tried to help with ice and a constant popsicle supply. The crew worked sunup to sundown and most of the day on Saturday and Sunday which I appreciated. They were clearly motivated to finish as quick as possible.
Not so good.....poor communications from the project management department. Constantly had to follow up with text messages and emails to obtain information. Sales guy was super communicative but once handed over to the project management group things went south. During one call with the office person I was told the communication was poor because they are so busy and understaffed. I appreciated the transparency but that did not help with me getting answers to questions I had. Also had issues with water coming into the house during a brief downpour while the roof was partially shingled. This was super frustrating because I saw the rain alert come through on my phone an hour prior and told the PM and crew rain was on the way. They assured me they had tarps so I assumed the tarps would be utilized. They were not. End result was more work for the crew as they needed to peel off shingles, plywood and replace insulation. Set them back several hours and could have totally been avoided. And I have drywall damage that needs to be repaired which they offered to do, but I declined out of concern more issues with workmanship might arise. Instead we reached a financial deal for me to handle the drywall repairs. In the end, it all worked out OK with a great looking roof but if you expect project level communications and attention to detail you might want to think twice. If comms and attention to detail had been better I think my review would be in the 4/5 star category. -
I worked with Nick last year on a new roof for my home. He did a thorough, detailed inspection of the roof before clearly explaining all of my options. His approach was not high pressured at all. I had one other inspection done as well, but selected Nick based on the best overall value and service.
When the time came for the job to be done, the crew showed up on time that morning, and were extremely professional, and the job was completed in 1 day. The crew was careful to cover all of the landscaping, and they did a good job of cleaning up the work area when they were finished at the end of the day. Also, Nick reached out to us the next day to make sure that we were completely satisfied.
I highly recommend Nick as a contractor. -
The Viking Contractors Team was great to work with. Their team members from Sales/Inspection to Install made the whole process a pleasant experience. They drove the majority of the insurance work process which was fabulous. We are very happy with our new roof and accessories.

Quick to make first appt for consult, but not responsive thereafter. Have approved insurance for repair but contractor won't followup with a quote to do a garage out of pocket and with shingle matching. After 2 months forced to find another contractor who will respond.
-
Very professional and organized. Took care of everything regarding our storm damaged roof and gutters. Barely even needed to talk to the insurance people. Jeff B. If wonderful! Knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. Always got back to us quickly when we had questions.

We had a leak in our roof during a recent storm. Viking came out for a free inspection, confirmed our roof is in great shape but found the point of leaking and sealed it up on the spot for free. I'm highly satisfied with the professionalism of their team, both the contractor and who I spoke with on the phone to setup the appointment. I'd go to them next time in a heartbeat.

Luis was a very prompt and responsive rep. Went through the whole process and answered all questions we had. Entire process couldn't have been smoother.
Besides using quality shingles all the associated parts like underlayment, ridge cap, vents, etc etc were all quality and name brand. There was no cutting corners.
The crew showed up on time and did a great job covering and protecting all of our landscaping that needed protection. They were a very hard working crew and stayed late until it was done (not at our request, just their process). They did an amazing job cleaning up everything. Seriously our yard and patio is cleaner then when they started.
No complaints or concerns with the business or installation inside of Viking. Highly recommended.
Update - after my roof was replaced it was discovered that it still leaked in the same spot as before. It was discovered that despite me being assured everything on the roof was replaced my solar tube flashing was not replaced and still leaked. Of course it did, this is why new roofs come with new flashing. After going back and forth with Viking they wanted $1000 to fix it because the insurance wouldn't cover it.
I was assured they would take care of it but since the check was cashed it was no longer their problem.
An honest 3 star experience. Can't recommend any longer. -
Viking was very helpful when working with insurance to get the replacement covered. Once we were scheduled they were a bit hands off and slow to communicate. They were extremely busy this season following the May storm so that was understandable. They showed up at unpredictable times and ended up not having enough shingles to finish the job so the had to come back. Overall they did a great job under the circumstances and we’re easy to work with.

Incredible! We worked with Jeff who is awesome! Viking does a great job. They are thorough, work with your adjuster to make things happen, and make sure you are taken care of throughout the process. Very fast response time too. I have never replaced a roof before and they made it so easy! 10/10

UPDATE 8/20
Latest update... surprisingly there is one more. My project is still not complete and I withheld my final payment. I attempted to have them come back so many times and they just did not complete the work. I called, emailed, text, documented everything and the owner said they would complete the work. It's August and still nothing. Roof season is almost done. But NOW I received a letter from their attorney demanding final payment. I am not going to hand over $13,000 for damaged shingles, leaking gutters, which will eventually lead to my house being damaged. I have over 10 years of property management experience, construction, and general contracting and I am shocked that this company still holds a GC license in MN. DO NOT TAKE THEIR WORD. HOLD PAYMENT TILL ABSOLUTELY COMPLETED!
UPDATE 2/20
My experience is one of many. I am typically not a keyboard warrior, but this is a terrible company of something that will affect your livelihood. Came to an agreement with the owner to receive a credit on the account, but the owner changed the total to someone thing that was not even close. I will now be filing a complaint to the BBB and taking this up with the secretary of state. If you do not have knowledge about construction, roofs, remodeling, do not use this contractor. They have tried to skirt many things by, thinking I did not have the knowledge. I have pointed out deficiencies and they have been nothing but combative since day 1. You will regret your decision if you move forward. Do not fall for their sales tactics at the very beginning. The owner Jacob Thompson is a terrible business owner who will laugh at you over the phone and not take ownership for his sub-contractors that mess up your property. I am honestly waiting for new issues to pop up from his companies poor work. I guarantee you will have buyer's remorse if you move forward with this company.
UPDATE: 1/22
I typically do not leave negative reviews, but please save yourself your time and frustration. If you move forward with Viking, you will most certainly need to be concerned for your safety. After months and months of phone calls from Viking harassing me for payment, even though the project has not been completed, I have finally got through to someone. There was damage caused by Viking to the new roof they installed by their own gutter crew. There were several marred shingles by them by putting up their extension ladder with the dirt feet in the downward position. They did this to many areas on the porch roof. They also installed the gutters for my garage in a not functional, not original, and not requested way. Many things that they did were done completely incorrectly. The reps are not responsive when you have a complaint and all of their contractors are subbed out, which means that Viking does not have a good grip on who is working on people's homes, which explains as why the quality of my project was a nightmare. I spoke with Jake, who is the owner of Viking, and he stated he could give me a credit for $300. I requested at least $1,000 credit, which is more than reasonable. The whole project was totaled around $28,000. This left Viking a fair amount of margin for profit. He was hostile over the phone and would not budge apologize or anything to exercise his customer service skills.

One of the worst GC's I've ever used. Coming from 10 years of construction, I have no idea how VC operates on a day to day basis. They are not responsive, not consistent. I sent a call to the office asking when my project would begin several days in a row and nothing came back. One day a crew showed up and started demo on my home. Was not prepared or anything. Then during the entire construction period they had no respect for my property. Destroyed all of my plants, did not tarp off areas, caused damaged to my personal property. VC got me in for hail damage but at the cost it was not worth it. I am still finding nails everywhere in my grass. When I talked to several people about the issue, everyone brushed it off as if it wasn't an issue. -
Jesse was great to work with. The inspection was quick, and he not only helped answer our questions, but also gave us tips on what we should do in the future. I appreciate his time!
