HVAC reviews in Minneapolis, Minnesota

The time windows are incredibly long...between 8am-11pm(even though when I made this appt it said 8-5 in my confirmation). I got my "half hour" call just after I left work after 5 (outside of that initial time frame), which would be rush hour time. I could not make it home in time with traffic, but the technician had left just 6 minutes prior to me making it home according to the time put on the notice on my door. I didn't get a courtesy call from the tech like I have in the past for them to make sure I was on my way. There's no number to call to talk to anyone quickly. Sat on hold 20 minutes for a representative that could "reschedule" me for almost another week out. Horrible experience.
Here's the thing, I understand it's furnace season. I had already had my initial service call and they had to order the part, it's not my fault the warehouse isn't properly stocked. Shouldn't people that had to wait for a part get first priority?! Where is the customer service?? Absolutely unacceptable for how much we pay monthly to have this service, and after the first service call, anyone that had to have parts ordered should have priority immediately after parts are received. -
The home service plan is great. It was very impressive that tech. Mr. Vincent found the fault very fest and fixed it very quickly. I do recommend this service. It was my first experience which was more than great. He fixed the Dishwasher with no time an very professional.

I scheduled an appointment for 12-4pm. I took off work to be home for this appointment. I was told I would get a call 30 minutes prior to the technician arriving. When I called at 3:50 to ask if someone was still coming, they said they wouldn’t be able to access that information until after my time-slot was over. I called back after 4, and they said I was still on the schedule and someone should still be coming out today. I told them I couldn’t wait past 6pm, but they said someone should still be coming before then. At 5:15pm I got an email saying my appointment has been rescheduled for the 5 days from now with a larger window of 8am to 2:01pm. Any other company gives you a heads up if the technician cannot make the scheduled window. And to automatically rebook for another day is not okay. When you pay a monthly service fee you expect to actually get the service you request! I’ve been a home service plus member for almost four years, and paid a lot of money for horrible service. I’m very disappointed with their customer service. I do not recommend paying for Home Service Plus.

I've tried to get my dryer fixed for more than two weeks now. I've had three visits by repair people. The last one didn't reconnect the dryer vent, which seems like a basic task that would always be completed. The automated phone system is horrible. The time windows for service calls vary from 4 hours to 8 hours. That's too long. I was told replacement parts would come in 1-2 days; one was delivered 11 days later. There is not a sense of urgency to correct something that was done wrong. Instead it's "See you in a week." I feel bad for the customer service people answering the phones. I.have paid this service a lot of $ and do not feel valued as a customer.
-
Waste of money. One vent was too high even though my short ladder allows me to reach it. Then going behind the dryer to clean it was too difficult. So I am not sure what I am paying 100$ a month for them do. Thye do basic 10 minutes of work and not help with the difficult maintenance. And the final straw the time window for when they come is like 5 hours so be prepared to take the whole day off.

CenterPoint Energy's HSP Repair Warranty offers real value. The very competent technicians do superior work on our appliances. Unfortunately, there are too few technicians and too many managers. Incompetent management needs to learn how to perform scheduling, logistics, and operations. Most unfortunately, each service appointment is specified as anytime between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. As seniors with just one car and a busy life, for each service call we were stuck home from 7 a.m. to late in the evening (up to 11 p.m.) waiting. With each service call, customer has no idea when the technician will show up. Only when the technician near our home do we get a phone call letting us know that FINALLY the technician is on the way. For each service call, the technician has shown up into the evening.

I have a furnace that will not shut off. I called to get an appointment and the earliest they could come was the following Friday (a week later) between 2 and 8PM. My house would reach temperatures over 90° while I was at work, and I would have to come home and open windows and doors to try and cool it off. I was afraid it would not turn back on if I tried to shut it off completely as it was well below zero outside. Frustrated, I waited until my scheduled appointment, took a half day of PTO to be home for the appointment, and around 7PM I got a call saying they were behind schedule and needed to bump my time slot to between 8-11PM. Frustrated again, I sat and waited. Nobody showed up. I call, and was told they moved my appointment to Saturday morning from 7AM - 3PM. That time came and went and I got an email saying they changed the time to 3PM - 11PM. I called in complete frustration and was told they upgraded my appointment to a non functioning appointment and someone should be out very soon. Well, at 10:55 PM i got an email stating they moved my appointment again for Sunday between 7AM and 3 PM. My entire weekend has been wasted, holiday get togethers missed, and my furnace is still running. Once (if ever) they so show up and if they can fix my issue I will be canceling this service all together. I honestly think they do this in hopes people get frustrated enough that they will call someone else to come out to fix the issue while they sit back and collect the monthly fees we pay. It is an absolute joke and a waste of money. Save yourself the headache and do not sign up for Home Service Plus.

We purchased a furnace from CenterPoint eight years ago, backed by what seemed like a generous 12-year full parts and labor warranty. Unfortunately, when our furnace stopped working last week (just as overnight temperatures began dipping into the 30s) we discovered that the promise of coverage doesn’t necessarily mean timely service.
The earliest appointment available was four days out. Once the technician arrived, he quickly diagnosed the issue but informed us the necessary parts wouldn’t arrive for another two days. He assured us that once the parts were in hand, CenterPoint could send someone out the same day to complete the repair.
We called the moment the parts arrived. To our surprise, the soonest they could send someone was a full week later, leaving our family without heat during increasingly cold nights. I called back to escalate the issue, hoping for some flexibility given the circumstances and the relatively quick nature of the repair. Unfortunately, I was met with no assurance or alternative options.
While I understand the scheduler isn’t responsible for staffing delays, I was disappointed that the call ended with an attempt to upsell me on additional services, despite our current unresolved situation. I declined, of course, and am left hoping we can keep our home as warm as possible in the meantime.
At this point, I’m still waiting to see if there will be any follow-up. But based on this experience, it appears CenterPoint’s service infrastructure may not be equipped to support the warranty program they advertise. -
The last person we had come out to fixe our hot water heater was not responsible or acountable when asked questions about if he had anything contagious or a cold or family that he was exposed to. Was ignorant about this and wanted to linger in the house after the work was done. Wanted to talk I told him out in the garage I would talke to him. He would pull his mask down on occassion. I had a heart transplant and am severly immune suppressed. I do not like ventalators and want to live as long as possible. I told CPE not to send this man again and they did. Whats up with CPE not understanding ENGLISH??!!! Oh maybe they don't hire high school graduates. That must be it.

Service Plus is a no-brainer in my mind. They have saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars over the years in repairs that were unexpected. Piece of mind is what I have with their service. A small monthly charge for not having to worry about a huge repair bill. Highly recommend them!
-
Since I got this service about 3 years ago, I can't say enough good things! My plan has paid for it's tenfold! It's easy to schedule service, you can call in the middle of the night and everyone is friendly and knowledgeable. My appliances are over 20 years old. They have fixed both my furnace at least 3 times. I highly recommend this service!!! Thank you, Centerpoint!!! 😊

I went with Welter after getting a few bids on a new furnace. I'd just had a bad experience with a Carrier furnace recall and told the Welter rep that I wanted a furnace that had been out a while and was proven to be solid, so the Trane they suggested was in the process of being discontinued but they still had new ones in stock- they said they'd been installing this furnace for over 12 years with no issues or recalls- so I was all about it! I was not interested in any bells and whistles and they didn't try to upsell me, just gave me a really fair quote. The installer was on time and put in the furnace in less than 6 hours. After he left, I noticed that when my AC came on, the fan/blower was on *extremely high* and it was very loud through the vents, so I called the next morning and the guy on the phone knew exactly what was going on and they sent out the same installer to adjust it that afternoon- and it's great now, very quiet. Thanks Welter Heating!

NOTE: I used This company back in November of 2018 and becaused I edited the review it reset the date to now which is 06-13-2021. All I added was where I'm from. I just wanted people who read this to know when I was referencing. So, here's the review.
Welter Heating did a great job of replacing my old air exchange unit. They were the ones who put it in 23 years ago when I had the house built. Now, here we are using them again to get rid of the old broken unit and replacing it with a brand new one. I have nothing bad to say about them. The installers were kind and respectful and Rick the owner is a good guy too. This company has been around now since 1912. THAT alone should tell you they're a good company because a bad one would not have lasted 106 years so far! I would recommend this company to anyone who asked me. Great prices and service with a smile. What more could you ask for?
Sincerely,
Robert B.

I contacted several companies prior to making a decision and I am thankful that I ended up working with Ray N. Welter Heating. This company goes above and beyond to ensure that issues are corrected without taking advantage of the client. As a female homeowner who does not understand much about mechanical/technical stuff, I appreciate when someone takes time to explain things in a way I can understand them. It is always nice to work with honest people. Thank you for all you've done. I'll be sure to recommend you!

Had my furnace & AC replaced by Ray N Welter. They don't mess around. They told me what they'd do, how they'd do it, & how much it would cost... and that's exactly what happened. They arrived on time at 7:30am and were done at noon. They replaced 30 year old Tranes with new Tranes, so it was easy & quick for them. Great workmanship & they cleaned up afterward. I highly recommend them.

I recently had the pleasure of hiring Ray N. Welter to conduct a safety inspection on two furnaces, and I must say, their service was nothing short of amazing! From start to finish, they were a shining example of professionalism, competence, and, most importantly, honesty.
I sent a message via the Website on a Friday afternoon prior to a holiday weekend. The owner Rick promptly got back to me the same day and answered all my questions.
Scheduling the appointment was a breeze, and the technician arrived early after calling to let me know he could swing by sooner than expected. Right from the outset, Travis exuded a friendly demeanor and took the time to listen to my concerns and thoroughly explained the inspection process, reassuring me that he would take a careful look at my old equipment without any intention of upselling unnecessary services.
Throughout the inspection, Travis demonstrated an impressive depth of knowledge and expertise in his field. He meticulously examined every aspect of my HVAC system, ensuring everything was functioning safely and efficiently.
Despite my system's age, Travis treated it with the utmost respect and did not make any disparaging remarks about its condition. Once the inspection was completed, Travis provided a comprehensive report detailing his findings (it passed) in clear, understandable language.
Having dealt with pushy HVAC companies pushing repairs or replacement in the past, this experience was like a breath of fresh air. Ray N. Welter exemplifies honesty, integrity, and professionalism, setting a high standard for the industry. If you're looking for a company that genuinely cares about your safety and comfort, I wholeheartedly recommend Ray N. Welter. They have won me over as a lifelong customer, and I'm confident they'll do the same for you. -
Most fair & honest hvac company I've ever worked with! Really appreciated how hard Phil worked at trying to get my a/c to work when it had issues.
-
We had some issues with our AC unit freezing due to air flow issues and a faulty valve. Everyone who we worked with was amazing. They explained what they were looking for and why. We had to call them back because some issues persisted and they came quickly and solved the problem. I was worried about finding an HVAC repair company because they can be difficult to work with, but finding Ray N. Welter has been great. I will definitely use them for my next project or repair.
-
I would gladly recommend. I have an older AC condenser (1988) that stopped working. The technician was early (!!), diagnosed the issue quickly, and repaired it on the spot (blown capacitor). No nonsense with trying to upsell, just a fast repair.

I'm finishing my basement and had these guys come out and add ducts and supply/return vents. They quickly fit me in for an estimate and ultimately on their schedule. It was all done in a day and they even helped me out with a small task I tried doing and couldn't finish myself. They were very knowledgeable and asked the right questions to make sure I was getting what I wanted and didn't assume anything. I will definitely be calling them again when their services are needed again!
Since this review we have had them out to our place to tune up the AC as well as repair a bad motor. They fit us in sooner when they have cancellations and are always on time and knowledgeable. Call them! -
I am very pleased so far. I called several places for an HVAC Safety check. Their price was $100 less than any other company, they offered me a discount for my duplex (unlike any other company) and they had excellent availability. With this great start, I expect no issues but will update my review if there are any concerns with my appointment. Update: The technician was courteous and prompt. Great company so far.
