Unethical Sales Practice and Inadequate Tarping

Unfortunately, I relied on Google's 5-star reviews when soliciting Innovative Roofing(IR) for a roof estimate and temporary repair. From the very beginning, it was a disaster. The improperly installed tarp not only failed to stop the leak but actually caused more damage to my home. As you can see in the photo, the technician did not tuck the tarp under the upper row of shingles. This allowed water to run under the tarp creating more stains on the ceiling. When I notified the sales rep, AJ, about what was going on, he didn’t think it was a problem, but he said he would send someone out to fix it. The person never showed up, so I called another contractor to tarp it correctly.

I requested a quote for impact-rated shingles. I was given a quote for non-impact rated shingles. I asked AJ why he didn’t give me a quote for impact-rated shingles. He replied that it would cost $2,500 above the insurance estimate. I rebuked it. AJ then tried to manipulate me by suggesting that I use my insurance money for screens and gutter replacement to cover the additional cost of impact-rated shingles. This is most likely illegal and a clear sign of unethical business practices.

The sales rep's attitude was also a major red flag. He seemed aloof and disinterested whenever I spoke to him. He claimed that I only had four options for gutter colors, despite his sales brochure showing over a dozen. He was unprepared for the appointment, not having a color swatch with him, and clearly lacked knowledge about roofing systems. At one point he tried to convince me there was wind damage in areas that were obviously not damaged.

I advise anyone considering IR to look elsewhere. I was able to get a roof replacement with impact-rated shingles without the hassles and sleazy sales tactics at a cost less than the insurance estimate.

Innovative roofing did an excellent job helping me through the process of getting a new roof through an insurance claim. I had never dealt with a claim like this, and they walked me through every step. Yul went above and beyond by circling each hail ding on the roof for the adjuster, and took tons of photos. He also offered to cover the leaky spot on my roof to keep my kids bedroom dry while we were waiting for the insurance company to finish evaluating everything.
They had a nice selection of colors for the gutters and the roof, and did an excellent job on both. They finished very quickly, and we're extremely friendly and pleasant to work with!
