We hired RENU ENERGY SOLUTIONS for solar installation at my home in Asheville NC and paid $66,322.40 in full for the project. My husband is a United States Marine Corp veteran and expected a professional , code-compliant installation.
Unfortunately, the installation failed Buncombe County inspection because required protective bumpers were not installed in front of solar batteries located in my garage. This is a basic safety and code requirement that should have been included in the original installation.
It has now been over two weeks since the failed inspection and the issue has not been corrected
My communications with the company have resulted only in emails stating they are “making the bumpers” and will install them when they are ready. No firm installation date has been scheduled. More recently , my phone calls have gone to voicemail without return calls.
This delay is specially concerning because failure to pass inspection before year end may impact my eligibility for the federal tax credit. I am simply asking for the installation to be completed properly and in a timely manner. I understand that we have paid in full so the company seems to be prioritizing other jobs that have yet to have made final payment .
I hope Renu Energy Solutions resolves this promptly.

Good company, great communications. A bit of a snag at the start but their sales director took over the project and made sure I was happy. My new solar panels and battery are working flawlessly and they handled all the difficult paperwork to connect to the utility.

Working with Renu was easy from start to finish! The process took some time to go through but I think that’s to be expected with a project like this. Renu was great with communication and letting me know all the steps we needed to go through. The install team was great. They paid attention to detail, cleaned up after themselves, and checked in with me to make sure I was happy with everything. Really can’t say enough good about it.

This company has been in business for over 15 years (the early days of solar), and their experience shows. It's a highly polished operation that treated this residential customer the same way they treat their large corporate clients. Emily was our assigned project manager and she was great the entire way. They coordinated all of the paperwork, including preparing the HOA approval package. There were only a few minor changes to the project and there was no impact on cost. The install crew was excellent, completing installation in under 4 hours. Prospective customers should understand that this was really two projects in one: the panel installation and the storage installation. They are split up in the contract, which makes figuring out what is due and when just a little bit of a task. This was not the cheapest option in the market, but understand that they source most all of their products from U.S. sources. There are headwinds in the renewable sector now, and hopefully Renu Energy is resilient enough to survive near term challenges and have long term success.

Working with Renu has been great so far. The process was easy and communication has been great. Ben's and Derrick's crews did a great job and were very efficient! Still waiting for a city inspection so I haven't experienced the final product yet, but I'm looking forward to it!

We love Renu! We learned about them through Davidson's Solarize program, and what incredible, accessible customer service throughout the process. They even handled HOA approvals! Shout out to Almir in sales on the initial pitch (and for securing as many rebates and credits as possible) and to Ben and Derek on the install crew. We feel much more comfortable now with our utilities situation in the event of soaring grid prices and/or weather events that knock out the power for weeks.

We were connected to Renu for installation of a backup battery and solar panels, and I think we lucked out with this company - they were responsive and informative, have a detailed and efficient process from start to finish, and made us feel like we had a team of people around us to help us (special shoutouts to Emily, Nick, and Calli, as well as the whole install crew!). They took care of everything, from ordering, HOA approvals, and inspections, and answered the many questions we had every step of the way. Other neighbors I've spoken to had very different experiences with other companies, and were not nearly as satisfied with the finished product and service we received. We hired ReNu to install solar panels for our home. Ryan Witt is the project manager and he kept us informed every step of the way. When we had questions, Ryan answered us promptly. Last Wednesday the panels were installed. Derek’s and his crew did a fantastic job. They arrived when they said they would and were done in less than six hours. They were polite and efficient. When they were done, they walked our entire yard to make sure there was no trash left behind. The Tesla battery charger was installed at the same time. The electrician and his crew also did an amazing job. When they were finished, the system was explained to us. I highly recommend Renu Energy.

Excellent experience with RENU from the first phone call with Alex and so much info shared about adding the Tesla Powerwalls to my existing solar panel design. The prep and inspection done was very thorough and identified items needing attention prior to install. The project management team led by Emily was excellent throughout the different phases and the reminders and nudges were appreciated to stay on the timeline. The installation team from Asheville was perfect and Alex explained everything from setup to using app for controlling things. They improved the design for running lines under house instead of placing outside and cleaned up and repaired anything needed during their time here. Recognizing that solar and battery systems are a huge and long -term investment, I did much research and obtained several quotes including from national, local and more regional companies. Renu was a great fit, giving me confidence, throughout the process, that they had the expertise, culture, size and regional / local investment that would set us up for long term success and least chance of an "orphan" system.
The company is well organized and invested in support and resources to address any concerns which may arise, as well as to execute the system design, engineering, permitting, installation, and energizing processes. With thoughtful and aesthetically pleasing installation, we are now running and enjoying the "magic" of solar. Lauren, in sales, and Calli, the great project operations manager, both patiently handled many questions and emails from contract to battery closet codes to system operation. Evan, the electrician in charge of the installation team, Luke, who ensured great panel layout and install, Benton, who, with a smile, moved 300 pound batteries into the crawlspace battery room, the rest of the installation team, as well as Patrille in accounting, and Ben, always available and reassuring throughout, have all contributed greatly to the highest quality install and truly enjoyable and surprisingly pleasant process. A couple of glitches on the billing side were handled with productive communication. If our great solar start can predict our future solar experience, we will be happy solar advocates for sure. I have, already, and will continue to recommend Renu to friends and others interested in solar and battery systems.

We recently had solar installed with Renu. The whole process has been great. Kevin was not a high pressure sales person and walked us through the quote. They were flexible in only adding the battery wall if we were going to be approved for the Power Pair system (we were!) and the communication from the team was excellent. I feel pretty confident that we made the right choice with Renu and their partnership with Duke seems like it made the approval process faster. I am hoping that we get the output that we were told in our our contract, only time will tell, but they do have some guarantees baked in for output and roof leaks. My only feedback is that the end of the process seemed rushed. The install teams want you to quickly sign the forms ensuring install was completed and everything is "right" which I don't feel entirely comfortable signing off on. Instead of taking away their garbage, they used my contractor's trailer without asking, which was not appreciated. Based on the communication, it will be around 4-6 weeks before we get to turn it on and see how the system works.

From start to finish, Renu maintained excellent communication, was responsive to my questions & concerns and professional.

The sales rep, Almir, was quite helpful with coordination of financing. He even was able to get us into a program where we were reimbursed for 3 months of electric bills.

Our project manager, Megan, was prompt and attentive. She usually responded to emails in less than a day. Even when she went on vacation, support was seamless as one of her colleagues stepped in to cover her calls, and was equally prompt.

The installation crew was professional, courteous and respectful. Their attention to detail on a complex setup was impressive.

This is the second home I've had solar installed, so I did have a frame of reference,and Renu met or exceeded expectations every step of the way.

The one area that was slightly disappointing is how long it took to get my system online with Duke energy. That is something I hope Renu works to become more proactive on for future clients.

But overall, I would highly recommend Renu for anyone considering solar for their home.

I was stumped finding a reputable Solar installer because of the fraud common in that industry but somehow stumbled upon Renu Energy Solutions and as of a few days ago, my solar system is active with Tesla PowerWall 3.

It's amazing! I'm so excited!
I start charging with 8 panels when the sun comes up and my battery recharges to 100% by 11AM. The rest of the day with my 31 solar panels, I send back 5,000+ Watt hours back to the grid.

99% of my electricity needs I make myself with the panels.

Renu staff and processes were as good as they can be.
Sales people are knowledgeable, project managers are great and keep customers in formed and the technical installers did excellent work on the install.

Most worry about holes in the roof but they use proven methods to attach the panels with equipment that itself seals the necessary holes into the shingles plus they insure against water damage.

My next step is to ensure I only use all major items during sunlit hours so they're solar powered.

I allocated a handful of items to be powered by the back up battery like the refrigerator, lighting garage door and the first floor HVAC so I'm covered during grid power outages at night.

My install maxed out at just above $40K, minus the tax incentives it came in around $30K.

Those incentives got canceled by this toxic administration but they'll be gone soon and incentives will return but indeed, the return on investment is well worth the cost.

Kevin was a great Salesman. Very Knowledgeable and answered all my questions. Being an Engineer I had A LOT of them. He did such a great job educated me I was able to refer him several other friends that also purchased. Renu is a Duke power certified installer and handle all the incentive leg work with Duke and made that part smooth. I got the right system with a great warranty, with guaranteed production and no leak guarantee from roof install. I highly recommend the complete Renu Solar team. Can't recommend them enough.
