HVAC reviews in Portland, Oregon

I love Tru Air!!! They are very professional and have been keeping our older furnace and A/C systems in working order. Today when they came for maintenance and realized they didn't have a filter the size we needed, they went to their warehouse to get one and came back promptly to finish the work. Highly recommend.

When my 15 year old furnace stopped blowing hot air, Dave came out quickly (in half an hour!), diagnosed the issue quickly, and found the necessary part to repair my furnace quickly, all for a reasonable price. I'll definitely be calling Dave again when it's time to replace the furnace entirely.

Very impressed with Tru Air. With furnace blowing cold air, I called late one afternoon. They tried to get someone out right away, but wasn't possible given this immediately followed the worst ice storm in years, so many people needing service. They sent Stephen first thing the next morning. Another company I called scheduled me 3 days out. Stephen fixed the problem in less than an hour, explained what he had done very clearly as well as some maintenance tips, and price was very reasonable - less in fact than the other guys I called who wouldn't come for 3 days. Tru Air is my new go-to for HVAC.

We had the owner (Dave) come out and fix our air conditioner about a year and a half ago, and during the summer, the furnace went out, and Dave's team installed our new furnace and air conditioner quickly and expertly. This week we noticed a problem with the gas, and someone from the team came out and fixed our issue within hours. Excellent service, much appreciated.

Got a full system replacement (furnace and AC) due to 20 year old system that was having issues with the furnace.
They did the work in a day, and at a reasonable price, when I say reasonable I mean WAY less than some of the big companies out there. Very happy with the results. AC is using half or less the electricity of the old unit, I've looked at comparable days in the pge app (you can see day and hourly usage/cost). Quiet too, it's been great so far and I'm very glad I got the work done with them.
It's obviously not free, the hardware is expensive and they deserve to have a decent standard of living doing this work. But if you compare to some of the large local companies (which may not even be local anymore after being bought out by out of state entities)... I think you're gonna be surprised. I got multiple quotes and I saw huge differences in quotes, even for having the same brand hardware installed (and similar/same specific units). The big outfits often have a dedicated sales team, finance department, etc... think used car lot, and you are paying for all those people. Upsell etc.
This is a smaller company, I think if people support companies like this we'll all be better off. We need more local companies that are our neighbors, not more big profit machines.
Anyways, very happy with the results and 100% recommend them. ***** -
Dave and crew did a great job installing central AC in our 1910 four square in southeast Portland. I think it was a tricky job to get it all to fit etc. but they persevered and made it work in our old home. It works super well, including in the upstairs rooms which can get extremely hot late in the day. Total game changer to have central AC keeping us cool! Thank you!

Answers the phone when you call! Dave is very knowledgeable and helped me to understand how to properly maintain my furnace. Punctual, arrived at expected time. Reasonable, fair price for parts and labor. Arrived prepared had the part needed on his truck. Diagnostic and repair took less than 30 minutes! Thanks Dave!

Preface this: I hate writing bad reviews for businesses and try not to and give the business every opportunity to make it right.
Dave came out to do annual maintenance on my mini split and main AC unit. I was delinquent on keeping both of these things up to date on maintenance and I was very forthcoming with that information and willing to pay for extra maintenance if it was required.
On the main AC unit, Dave did what I think is a good job, but I need to make sure because of what happened with the mini split.
Dave claimed that he cleaned the mini split and did annual maintenance. 48 hours later my mini split is leaking everywhere on the floor, thankfully not in the wall. We end up, pulling off the plastic cover and it’s disgusting in there. Dave only cleaned the filters. So now I’m doing the cleaning and servicing that I supposedly paid for. The drain line is totally clogged, and not flushed out. Again, this is something that would have been done in a regular maintenance call.
Here’s why this review is two stars. I texted, I called, over the course of two weeks since the service and the mini split has been leaking in those two weeks, for Dave to make this right.
I have received no response.
If I had to call somebody to come out, not only would I have had to pay the emergency fee of $200, but also pay for the regular maintenance that I supposedly already paid for. It would be around $400.
Thankfully, I had amazing neighbors that help me out and this was just the drain line. We would have never had this issue if there was a regular maintenance done on the mini split.
This would not even exist if Dave had called back to make it right. I was told multiple times that I need to be better about regular maintenance, and that’s 100% fair. What’s not fair is giving somebody that talk and not performing the maintenance that supposedly was so needed. -
We came home from vacation to a cold house with a non-functional furnace. We called Tru Air (on a Saturday) and Dave was on-site within an hour to diagnose the problem. Turns out our furnace was at the end of its useful life, and Dave gave us a proposal for a furnace replacement. We obtained quotes from several other HVAC companies, and the proposal from Tru Air was the best price. When we called Tru Air to accept their bid a few days later, they were able to schedule the installation for the same day and they knocked it out in about 2 hours.
Not only did they save us from the freezing cold at a moment's notice, but they took the time to give us some advice on re-routing our ductwork for a basement-finishing project.
Knowledgeable, efficient, personable. I strongly recommend their services. -
Very happy with this company. They were able to schedule a furnace maintenance job the same day I called, the techs even showed up an hour earlier then scheduled! Their price for the job was reasonable and less than the other places I called. The techs, Steven and Ryan were wonderful. They were friendly and worked quick and clean. Steven walked me through the work step by step and was very thorough. I will definitely recommend Tru air to my friends and neighbors.

Glad I called Tru Air for our AC fix - which as one thing led to another evolved into a replacement furnace and AC job for my old and dying systems. This whole team was a pleasure to work with and happily answered all my questions. Their pricing came in competitively and on top of that they were able to turn around a quick install to get us up and running again. Thanks Tru Air!

I woke up Saturday morning before the long Christmas holiday weekend to a very cold house and feared finding someone who could look at my furnace. Luckily I found Tru-Air online and decided to give them a call. Dave arrived within a half hour! And then scheduled my furnace replacement (yeah it was time) for the next possible day ASAP after the holiday. They were understanding and able to work with me on scheduling and financing and I couldn't be happier to have found them. Highly recommend!

Dave from Tru Air is an outstanding professional who offers exceptional HVAC services. Due to a recent power outage, our A/C unit failed, and Dave responded promptly, demonstrating excellent communication throughout the process. He meticulously inspected our entire system, identifying not only the initial problem but also a potential future issue. Dave is polite, efficient, and reasonably priced. I highly recommend Tru Air for their expertise and top-notch service.

TruAir replaced my furnace in January. It’s now October, and I have not had heat for nearly 2 weeks. Do not hire this unreliable, unprofessional contractor.
On a Friday, I contracted Dave to troubleshoot the furnace failure. He determined that it was a defective part and that he could get it replaced Monday. I called him Tuesday, and he told me the part works be available later in the day or early Wednesday. On Wednesday, he said he would call me when the part comes in later that day. I did not hear back from Dave after 3 calls on Friday, one on Monday, and another on Tuesday.
I was finally able to get a hold of one of Dave’s employees through Thumbtack chat. I was told Dave is unavailable for 2 weeks, and the employee was unwilling to do anything without talking to Dave.
In the meantime, I still do not have heat and will have to pay out of pocket for labor that should be on warranty. -
I would strongly recommend not using this company. I had a heat pump and furnace installed and it's been one issue after another. First my electric coils didn't work due to an installation error. Then the Lennox heat pump stopped running because of another install error. Then the cooling function in the heat pump stopped working.
All this can be somewhat forgiven because stuff happens. But the thing that really bothers me is that Dave Truhlar, the owner, takes up to 2 months to return calls. I've had to start paying another contractor to fix all the issues that are supposedly under warranty with Tru Air.
Again, strongly recommend a pass on Tru Air. -
Dave and team installed a new heat pump and air handler back in July. Everything started great, but whoa… after numerous issues with the post-install, Dave decided he can’t support the products he sells, nor does he know how to communicate like a human being or a professional.
First, he either fired his staff or he left, which I discovered by texting with his sole employee after Dave wouldn’t return my phone calls or text messages. I finally got Dave to come by after WEEKS of trying. My aux heat / heat strips never worked, so he came by (after rescheduling) and said my main air handler board was broken and he’d come back and replace it under warranty. Another month went by and he totally ghosted me, AGAIN. I called the manufacturer and they told me there was no warranty claims on my heat pump and that I should call “an actual” authorized installer. So, I did… they came out the next day, on time, and fixed it in 30 minutes. Shout out to you Miller heating!!! Therefore I had to pay out of pocket to get my system working properly which Dave should have done. Funny thing was, my main board wasn’t broken. He just didn’t know how to wire it and program it properly at the air handler. He was deflecting and buying time.
Avoid this company like the plague. Sorry Dave, but you are a liar and can’t be trusted. I’m still waiting for that check in the mail to reimburse me for what I needed to pay Miller. Who am I kidding? Maybe when hell freezes over. -
Yesterday mid afternoon, on what was apparently on the hottest day in recorded history for August, my home air conditioner simply quit.
The furnace fan worked, but it was only blowing hot air, and the compressor outside was silent. I tried a little YouTube troubleshooting, but quickly gave up
This morning I woke up and started making phone calls, probably calling well over a dozen places, trying to get someone to come out today. Most of them laughed before telling me there was absolutely no way.
When I finallyreached Dave he was in my neighborhood, and agreed to stop by and take a look, and he was literally here within an hour.
Then, to my further amazement, he actually got it started again with parts that he had on hand, and I'm not going to tell you the price because you might expect it also.
Our air conditioner is actually pushing 26 years old, and I'm hoping to hear back from him today with a reasonable quote for a better / modern system. -
I was told it was $99 for an air duct and clean the fireplace. When a technician got here, he said no that was not true. It’s $99 for each. He cleaned the fireplace which took him all of 15 minutes. I would not hire them again.

I reached out to David and Tru Air last year when my furnace was having issues. He responded right away and then diagnosed and fixed the issue in under an hour. We discussed the need to replace the 30+ year old furnace with a new one soon. Being, the penny pinching homeowner I decided to wait a little longer.
So this year, during the arctic blast, when the furnace went out I called them again. David came out the same day, on a Sunday, while the whole city was frozen over. It was time to finally replace my ageing furnace with a new high-efficiency one. By Tuesday morning the new furnace was in place and working magnificently. I can't express enough how great David and his team's responsiveness, professionalism and clear communication is. I would definitely recommend Tru Air for repairs, maintenance or a full upgrade when the time comes. -
Friendly staff and great customer service
