Plumbing reviews in Portland, Oregon

These days its hard to find good, professional, helpful, honest customer service. I have had 1st Call Plumbing repair a water main leak in February 2023 & returned today to replace my water heater. I texted at 7:26am Wednesday morning, and had a new installed water heater by 11:30am Thursday morning. Doug and his team were friendly, efficient, reasonably priced and left my laundry room cleaner then when they got here.
Thanks for saving the day again. Support local, small family business. Doug, Lainey and crew will not disappoint! -
One of my favorite plumbers in town, if you want a professional & competent plumber to come out and address your plumbing concerns these are the people you want.

What a great company! Doug was professional, courteous, and had great communication. He even walked me through the steps he was taking to fix my shower issue. Hopefully I don't need plumbing help again soon, but if I do I know exactly who I'll call. Can't recommend them enough.

The best plumbing experience we've ever had. Doug and his crew fixed our shower problem efficiently and cost effectively. Fast, friendly service. Thank you, Doug.

Reliable, quick to reply, and easy to schedule. Great communication & quality work. Been a customer for almost 5 years now & am always happy with service. Highly recommend.
-
Great service...always a bit surprised when a repair becomes a replacement but everything was done professionally, quickly and courteously. Thanks to Doug and Lainie for getting me handled in 24 hours. Cheers.

Doug and his team did a fantastic job helping me fix a leaky sink and installing a new faucet. In short, Great Company with Great People doing Great Work! Highly recommend.

They are always consistent every time we call on them for service. We appreciate Doug's honest straight forward assistance on every project we do! We preferer a locally owned business like 1st Call Plumbing to do business with vs the private equity owned companies out there.

We did a multi gen conversion this summer, 1st Call did a great job. But, this weekend we had to contact Doug about a possible leak to one of the toilets. Doug came out Monday, he generously took the toilet off and replaced the wax ring just to make sure it was all good. And while he could've charged us, to show up, and do this he did not. I even offered to share the expense and he said no, Merry Christmas. I highly recommend 1st Call, Doug, his wife and crew. Truly a good customer service company.

We have had poor water flow for years, especially when running more than one fixture. I thought we needed to repipe the entire house, but Doug helped diagnose the problem, and ended up saving me thousands by finding we only needed to replace the water service line. We were impressed by his honesty and integrity as he could have made a lot more just doing what we had originally thought was needed! 1st Call Plumbing was great in communication before, during, and after the project; they were on-time, and did quality work. Highly recommend!

The price for repair was twice as high as other plumbers and they left the job without testing the work, leaving us the 'home owner' to troubleshoot their fix. I would not use this company again.

I used Proline for the first time for a septic issue. Chris properly figured out what my problem was and corrected it. Other plumbing businesses I've used never figured it out...I will always call Proline for any future problems.

Jon is great, very responsive and professional. Proline plumbing has been a great company to work with. I had an emergency water loss and they got Jon out right away. I called proline again and Jon installed my kitchen sink and garbage disposal. Very happy with their service.

BEWARE!! Get a quote first!! Be prepared to be misdiagnosed and overcharged! I had Pro-Line come to fix a hot water heater and a leaky pipe connection. This took less than 2 hours and I was charged $953 with no parts used. As Tony was leaving I noticed he had broken a piece of trim on my door and I asked him to repair it which he was not happy about and he then reinstalled it upside down. A week later the hot water heater stopped working again. Even though they say” 100% customer guarantee”, they quoted me a minimum of 3 to $400 to diagnosis it. I called another company to come out, they diagnosed it over the phone, came and replaced a part. It took him less than 20 minutes, a charge of $249 and it fixed the problem.

I was able to get same day service (within about two hours after I called). Tyrone, the journeyman who came out to my house was very polite, and he got the job done quickly. Thank you!!

These folks came out to do an assessment and quote for my home warranty company. I'm giving 4 stars despite their astronomical quote which was almost 3x what another company quoted for the exact same job (total re-plumb of my 700 sq ft house) because the person I dealt with, Dustin, was on time, polite, had a positive attitude, and they did what they said they would do with no nudging needed by me. I'm not able to afford their services, but if I had the money, I would go with them because they seem competent and like they actually want to do their jobs, which is weirdly hard to find in Portland-area contractors.

Chris showed up on time and ready to work. He handled the job quickly and even gave us pointers on how to keep things running smoothly. He also noticed we had an open pipe from waiting for a sink to be installed, and suggested we put a cloth in the pipe to stop sewer gasses from getting into the house. Nice guy, great service. Will use them again

ProLine Plumbing was great. The administrator was helpful and friendly and she had a technician out to my house within a few hours. My technician (Tony) was fantastic. He was efficient, straightforward, and patient enough to explain multiple things I probably already should have known (e.g. what buttons and valves in my house to exactly what). He also carefully walked me through my options and gave me advice on the best path for repairing my water heater and considering replacing it.

Great experience. Scheduling was very easy, and Max, our plumbing technician was absolutely the best. He quickly diagnosed the problem and explained the fix in detail. Max was very personable and upbeat, and obviously knew his stuff.
ProLine did not disappoint. -
Response to proline's response:
1. Even if what they said was entirely true, none of this was effectively communicated and the only choice I was given was hydrojet or not.
2. It was totally clear to me that the clog was NOT the kitchen drain since those pipes were draining easily into the basement sink. The clog was clearly AFTER the basement sink not before. In other words, not in the line up to the kitchen. A subsequent company verified this
3. As with the lack of communication with the tech, the company as a whole never communicated with me AS PROMISED by the tech. I only received an estimate to replace the under-concrete drain. Which, as explained to me by a plumber who DID run a snake and cleared the clog AFTER the basement sink, saw no evidence that that pipe needed replacing at this time. I have new plumbing now in place of the destruction caused by proline. This is one point of agreement - those pipes really did need replacing. But I would have appreciated spending $1,000 just replacing those drains rather than the extra $1,000 to destroy them first
Downgrading to one star
I'm tempted to give only one star, but I'll give them the benefit of some doubt.
I called them as an emergency on a Saturday. In general, communication with them was good and a plumber arrived within the promised 4 hour time frame. That's why the second star.
Things went south badly at that point. I was warned about the emergency/weekend rate. About $300 vs $69. That was fine. But the guy who arrived took a really brief look around and announced that he needed to do a hydrojet for an additional $700+. For reasons unknown, he couldn't start with a snake. Also for reasons unknown, he has to do the hydrojet from the upstairs kitchen sink rather than from the basement where the clog was clearly located
The end result was he blew out the pipes from the kitchen to the basement and charged me $1,000. And the clog in the basement remained
I was told someone would be touch on Monday. The only thing I heard from proline was on Wednesday when I received an estimate to replace ALL my plumbing for $7,000.
I had already contacted another plumbing company who came out on Friday, fixed the plumbing proline destroyed (another $1,000) and recommended a drain cleaning company that just came this morning and, using a snake, cleared the drain (for $135) that proline wanted replace for around $6,000.
I suppose proline does good work. I don't feel like their quote was out of line. But every decision seemed more about how much I could be charged rather than actually addressing my immediate problem. I'm happy to have the brand new kitchen drain and all. This is a 90 year old house after all. But being 90 years old, why would the first line of attack be hydrojet?
The good news is I now have a reliable plumber I trust. I consider the $1,000 proline charged to destroy my plumbing part of my education as a homeowner.
But I certainly will never call them again! -
Tyrone was Amazing he was so informative and great sense of humor and did an amazing job in a short period of time. I felt the price was reasonable too. A+
We got referred to them from our warranty company! This was the third company they sent to us and we were so pleased that we hired them for work not covered by our home warranty! Thank you!
