Ray Gessner and his crew were absolutely fantastic. They replaced two chimney flew pipes, the roof flashing around the chimney, some roof shingles and recapped a double chimney for us to stop rain water from coming in to the house and to make the two fireplaces usable again. They also sealed off and pointed up many areas of the existing brick work. They checked the Furnace Chimney and recapped it also to avoid future issues. The entire crew were professional, courteous and very knowledgeable. All of them took the time to explain what they were doing and made us feel extremely comfortable with the job they did. The job was done on time and in budget. They were always on time and got the job done around our schedule and to our convenience. I highly recommend them to anyone. They are great!!!!

This company does amazing work at a great price and I highly recommend them. After discovering an issue that my home inspector missed prior to purchasing a house, this company saved the day with repairs.

The first visit Jeffery and Mario did everything in their power to remove the animals from the fireplace but after numerous attempts to get a live squirrel out so they could remove the dead ones they had to refer me to a specialist for the animal removal. They sent two more guys the next day to put my fireplace damper back on and the rain cap back on. And, did an inspection. They explained the repairs in detail that need to be done. I wish I could remember the names. Sorry. These guys are nothing but professionals and they care about their customers! Thanks for all you did. We will call when we are ready to make our repairs happened! A WONDERFUL COMPANY TO DEAL WITH!

Update.. Had them out again and frank came an was amazing. Love using these guys can't wait for the work.... recently had my chimney cleaned and inspected by A Step in Time,Virginia Beach and I was so impressed with the young man that did the job. I bought my town home in March and I have a fireplace. With intentions of using the fireplace when the weather turns cold I thought it best to have the chimney cleaned. I called A Step In Time and spoke to Mr. Rufus Jones. Mr. Jones was professional and knowledgeable about the services A Step In Time offered. I told him I was a new home owner and wanted my fireplace inspected & cleaned before using it. We discussed prices and I even received a couple of discounts. I was able to make an appointment that best fit my schedule. I received a courtesy call the day before to confirm my appointment. Matt, the service technician, called to confirm that the appointment was still on and that he would be there within 15 minutes.
Matt was courteous & professional. He took pictures of the fireplace and chimney to show me what was needed. Then he went about cleaning the fireplace, filling in the cracks and a medium size hole in the fireplace, and resurfacing the cover of the chimney which was badly rusted. Matt did a wonderful job and I would recommend his work to anyone. Now my fireplace is ready and I can enjoy many fires this winter worry free. Thank you Step In Time.

The crew was very nice and they worked quickly, very informative about was needed to be fixed . showed picture of all they work completed. I will use them again for sure. prices are reasonable. The only advise i would give is to include the removal of the fireplace ashes.This was explained they did not do this because of their vacuum could not pick up ashes. However it could have been done with a fireplace shovel. This was not a big deal for me to clean up the ashes after they left but i have never had a company not complete this in the past.

Jeffrey came out for a chimney inspection and clearly outlined and priced each issue. He showed us pictures of the damaged areas and emailed those to us later. Between their initial visit and the repair, we changed our mind on one issue and he had no problem taking it off, even though the paperwork was already signed. He even suggested a way of how we may be able to take care of the issue ourselves, which we really appreciated. Would definitely hire again.

I had A Step In Time do work on the fireplace in my new home. They removed a wood burning insert, cleaned and swept the chimney, and installed a new damper. Michael came out to do a thorough inspection and was amazing at letting me know exactly what needed to be done to ensure that my fireplace was in good working order. They were able to schedule the service very quickly and the service team was professional and courteous. I'll absolutely be using them for my seasonal sweep and am incredibly pleased with their work. Professional and thorough service with great hospitality and appropriate and transparent pricing.

From the get go, this was a fast and professional company, starting from making the appointment to the actual service (chimney inspection and cleaning).

Day of service was great, with Jeff being very communicative about his time frame, his location, and nearly to the minute about when he would arrive. When he did arrive, he was courteous and professional, and performed the task quickly and cleanly. Very pleased with the service, would recommend.

Jeff and Siah arrived on time and worked diligently all day cleaning dryer vents and installing protective cages in a condominium building. They were polite, courteous and careful inside resident's homes and made appropriate recommendations. Provided a follow up plan for other areas to be addressed. Highly recommend this company.

The chimney was as is when we bought the home, it turned out the chimney was "capped" with a very thin piece of sheet metal that was letting water in and all sorts of other things. Everything was explained and photographed/emailed to me (genius!), the gentlemen that arrived were all friendly and certainly tolerated my questions. Everyone was ready to work. Dillon handled the inspection, with Jeff and Noland doing the actual repairs - very pleased with the quality of work and grateful for the suggestions given to improve our experience. Everyone was exactly on time and I even had a few concerns addressed over the phone a week before my appointment. Work was done in the Richmond/Henrico area, just using the VA Beach address that was on the service report. Thanks again, everyone!

Back in 2014 I hired this company to clean our chimney in Virginia Beach . They gave us the bad news that we would need to change the liner in our chimney and a new cap because it was rusted through and could cause a fire. They offered to do the work for around $6k. We didn’t use the fireplace often and asked them to just cap it top and bottom. We paid and they capped it. We recently decided to convert to a gas fireplace and today I ripped out the fireplace and liner. I found no holes, no broken sections. I was impressed with how good the condition of the liner was. I wish I had hired them to replace the liner back then so I could sue! I hired them once and they scammed me right away. Avoid this company. Please don’t let them take advantage of you. I am reporting this to the BBB and will be sharing my story on every site I can find.

I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to both look through your records and respond. I appreciate your answer and my feelings would have been different if that was the conversation I had at the time. The chase cover had some material painted on it that confused the inspector and myself. There was certainly some visible surface rust and at the time it was ~25 years old. Your explanation may have changed my mind about capping it, but would have made me feel like I was dealing with an honest company. Unfortunately at the time this information wasn’t presented this way and left a bitter taste. I understand when someone says “the unit is really old and I see surface rust. That could mean much bigger problems and it’s risky for you to go forward.” That allows me to make a reasonable call. I was instead left with the impression that I was lucky my house hadn’t already caught fire. After seeing that the piping was in excellent shape I feel like I was being cornered unnecessarily. Every business has to make money but I prefer to be treated as you did in your response and not how I was treated at the time. I hope you understand my position.

Our family has now used this company three times in less than a month and highly recommend! Daniel did a wonderful job making sure our dryer vent was completely clear. He really went above and beyond and was very professional! Thank you all.

Only the best!! Frank has done a great job for us many times. He is polite, efficient and always respectful. I wouldn't have anyone else. We have our fireplace cleaned and inspected every year. The only things we've had done is to replace screen and back panel. The outside top was replaced with aluminum and looks wonderful! Always a pleasure to work with. Thanks

We had scheduled a cleaning, and Paul and his crew called to squeeze us in before the rain started. They showed up and got right to work, taking extra care to cover my floors and ensure my home remained as clean as possible. They were quick and efficient, and didn’t try to sell us anything we didn’t need. They were very friendly and great to work with! Highly recommend!

Was recommended by family member. And not disappointed. Frank came in and went over everything. Didn't try to "sell" me anything, showed me what I need now and for future. Took pictures and went over them with me. Had a new employee with him and he to seem like he wanted to learn and help. Customer service from both was top notch. In today's world everyone trying to "get one over on ya". Didn't feel that at all. When I have the budget for repairs will be done by you all. Thanks 👍

Amazing service!!! From receptionist to the technician, the service was great. I call them on Tuesday after another chimney company canceled on me last minute. The receptionist was so kind and understanding, she squeezed me in for an appointment the next day. Mike the technician came out, took care of everything. So professional, friendly, and top notch quality. Will be using this company only in the future. Thanks guys

Curtis was very pleasant and did a great job with the inspection/cleaning of our Chimney. Always very satisfied with the top level of service received!!

Recently purchased my home. Of course within a month I noticed the flex crown was peeling off the top of my chimney. Found a receipt for when the flex crown was installed in Nov 2010. The receipt said there was a 10 year manufacturers warranty. I called Step in Time to inquire about the warranty. I was informed that the material would be covered however I would need to pay for labor which would be $250. Ok, lets do it. I was very surprised that they were able to schedule the work the very next day and I didn't even need to be there since it was an external repair job. The technician took very detailed before and after photos and sent them and the paperwork via email. I provided my credit card information prior to the visit and was charged after the work was complete. Less than 20 hours from first phone call to job completion. I hesitated to call this company because I have heard nothing but how this company has to charge higher prices to cover the huge overhead they have compared to smaller companies. Maybe you're paying higher prices for the quality work and great customer service this company provides. I am a very satisfied customer and am willing to pay a little more for great customer service and a job well done!

I called A Step in Time for my chimney cleaning and inspection after 20+ years of inactivity in using it. Their guy Daniel came over, cleaned and inspected it, and found that my chimney's exterior was rusted through and needed maintenance right away. He got me the best deal he could offer, and when my custom-made covers were ready, was quick and careful in installing them, and was always professional and cheerful to deal with. And the company itself worked with me and my work schedule, willing to install it without my presence and arrange a convenient time to render final payment so that they could get it in place ahead of the wet and chilly weather that headed our way. I am very glad for their help in getting my chimney ready for Christmas, and an extra thank you to Daniel for his job well done!
