If I could give this company more than 5 stars I would do so!!
Bo, the owner and his team, removed my old boiler & replaced It with this beautiful unit below. It was very, very cold the day that they did the work. Bo had told me that the installation would probably take one and a half to two days. They stayed and completed the job enough so that I had hot water and heat that evening.
They returned the following day and completed the job.
Bo was concerned about not replacing my old thermostat & returned the 3rd day (of our 11 inch snowfall) and installed a new thermostat and all was well. When he left there was almost 2 inches of snow on the ground!! A phone call from him later that day to make certain I was OK …need I say more?
Thank you, “Hats Off”!!! -
I was asked to write a review by the company so here is mine.
My 2.5 year old gas furnace stopped running. I lost power the day before so I thought it might or might not have something to do with it. When I called the company they were available next day which was nice because all others were at least three days waiting.
I was informed that there was $98 diagnostic fee for the initial visit that would be non-refundable but can be credited to a future service. I completely understood.
Later same day I called back and mentioned about their current military discount offer I saw on their website which was “no diagnostic fee.” They noted that.
Next day the technician came and took a look at the system.
Minutes later he said the heater started working after he took the air filter out and reset the furnace.
According to him my heater stopped running because I failed to change the air filter and let it clogged up.
Ok, then that was all it took and it was supposed to be done. No further service needed, you would think.
My diagnostic fee was supposed to be $0 at this point.
From that point, fast forward over two hours past. The technician found “red flags” with the furnace. I thought that was a part of/extended the initial diagnostic since any issues related to those red flags were not brought up from my end. I thought he was inspecting my system as a complementary service.
I had only one job for them initially which was to get my heat running.
When he billed me in the end though, there were two diagnostic charges. One $0 with military discount for the diagnostic I asked for (the heater stopped working), another $150 with no military discount for the diagnostic on his findings (red flags) afterwards.
I had to pause and think when he showed the invoice to me. ..
So if I do not use military discount, does this mean they charge me both $98 and $150? Or do they charge one flat fee of $98 that I was informed initially?
What does military discount do here? It seemed “Military discount” was really for them, not for Military people.
I have never heard of any company that charges two diagnostic fees of any kind on their initial visit.
The technician eventually dropped military discount and $150, then made the bill $98 calling it “settling in the middle.” I did not quite understand what he meant, but I paid $98. At this point, I figured it was better for me to forget about military discount because it was obviously not doing anything for me.
If I had not said anything, I would have paid $150 for the second diagnostic on the same visit.
I wonder if they are the customers, my experience would make them happy or not.
I am writing this review to help people who consider using military discount like myself. Please do the math before you make payment and agree on what you pay.
Note to the technician:
1)It would’ve been nice if he had explained to me how to reset the furnace so that next time I can try it by myself before calling a company. Also he did not mention this but I will definitely check the air filter first if the heater stops working next time.
If you really work for your customer satisfaction and help us save money, it would be greatly appreciated if you educate us so that we don’t have to repeat the same thing/mistake.
We customers will return to you when needed for the company’s true customer service. If we don’t see that, we won’t.
2)When I was explaining to him about the previous service I had on my furnace, he took a picture of my past invoice from the different company. He did it so quickly without asking me to do that. You know that an invoice has many private information on it. Taking a picture of someone’s invoice especially without permission is not appropriate.
The three stars are for easy scheduling, fixing the heating issue I brought up, the technician’s thorough inspection on furnace.
Two stars taken off for vague and confusing pricing for work performed by the technician, lacking of the technician’s customer service skills stated in the above. -
Jay and Tim did a great job. They were here for about 4 days repairing my system that another company (Norfolk Air) had installed which I will never use again. Hats off was respectful and professional. I highly recommend them they even work on holidays. Which they responded on July 4th and fixed my AC with no holiday charge. Thank you so much for completing the job and everything you have done to make sure my heating and air conditioning works.

Hats Off Heating and Cooling did an excellent job installing our heat pump water heater. The technicians were professional, and knowledgeable. They did not rush, and ensured the job was done properly and that there were no problems or questions before they left. A heat pump water heater is not cheap, but I felt I got the best value for the money from Hats Off.

These guys are the BEST! Prompt service, job done right, clean, neat, on time, they work with you - just a great company to work with. Bo and his crew did a wonderful job removing the old Geothermal System (garage and attic), installed the new one, new ground water pump, new vents in the room over our garage (which is now a climate controlled hobby room), put in a new thermostat - the works. Was afraid our 28 year old system would go out any day, and it was getting really cold out. Glad we chose Hats Off - we have been warm all winter, and looking forward to being cool all summer... and with lower heating & cooling costs too!

Spectacular assessment and diagnostic. Evan had great service. Everything was explained in detail, in writing, step by step, clear and to the point. Very pleased. The install of the system was painless. They came through, did the job and didn’t leave a trace. Really great work all around.

Excellent response, diagnose, and replacement of our old units. Would definitely recommend for your home. The guys were professional & hard chargers knocking this out in a day.

It’s rare these days to come across a company that truly restores your faith in honest businesses doing quality work, it’s hard to come by but Hat’s Off did exactly that. Donald, Evan, and the entire team are absolute gems — kind, respectful, hard working, honest, and genuinely committed to helping others. The girls on the phones throughout the entire process were clear, straightforward, and thoughtful, making sure everything was fully understood every step of the way.
Donald clearly takes immense pride in his business and it shows in every interaction. He goes above and beyond for his customers, putting their needs first and delivering service with real passion and integrity.
What stands out most is how humble and genuine everyone is. This isn’t just a company doing a job — it’s a team that truly cares about the people they serve. In a world where good service can feel rare, Hat’s Off delivers something even better: trust, reliability, and peace of mind.
There’s nothing better than the gift of heat, and I wouldn’t hesitate to trust them again or recommend them to anyone looking for honest, exceptional service. So very thankful ❤️ -

Rick, Chase, Richard and Ben are the best!! The new air conditioner unit was installed quickly, efficiently and expertly. Sonny's reliability is unsurpassed.
-
Excellent mechanical contractor for both business and my house. All the mechanics are polite and professional but Rick is hilarious and inventive. He fixes stuff in an hour some others think will be a daylong process. Highly recommend!

Called Sonny's 8 business days ago. When I called for a status got the standard contractor refrain: We're swamped, others have a higher priority, etc. Was told someone will call when they are on the way out. A pretty sloppy way to do business rather than have the courtesy to give the customer an appointment time/window. Based on my experience Sonny's does not appear to value homeowner business. A painful lesson learned for me.

Sonny's Mechanical is #1 in our opinion. From our first call to Sonny's to our last good-bye to the technician, the situation was. very professional and customer satisfying.. Jason Lett was the technician and he was first class. He kept us informed of our situation and was very professional and knowledgeable. Hats off to Sonny's and Jason.
