We have used Top Notch 3 times now. Gordon is professional, polite, honest, and most importantly, very good at what he does. We have had simple jobs to Major sewer lines done. I would reccomend Top Notch and Gordon to anyone.

I called Top Notch on a Monday morning at 8 am and Gordon answered right away. I was given a very fair quote and told they would be there in the afternoon. They were there by noon and had the job done in just a couple hours. I truly wished I had called them sooner and not procrastinated. Top Notch helped get some household stress under control. I will definitely use them again and highly recommend them!

Don't waste your time.

I spoke with Gordon Retherford on the phone about the job, and I sent him a video.
He made appointments, cancelled them, kept us waiting for over a week, and now he cancelled the job.

It's obvious that he wanted a larger job than this, based on his behavior after speaking to me.
I spoke with him after someone else had called him about the job.
He kept making comments, on the phone, that the job he was being asked to repair might need a "complete redo", since he is being asked to repair someone else's work.
He asked for some more photos of the job, (he already had some photos provided to him), so I sent him a complete 3-minute video explaining exactly what was wrong.
I made it clear when I sent the video that the job isn't a complete redo, and that is clearly why he didn't bother to show up at all.
He strung us along and created unnecessary delays for me when the job is important for safety.

I had a construction business for over 2 decades, and I know what the job requires.
I also know the signs when someone is fishing for a larger job, including when they try to find out how much you know, so they can find people who they can overcharge or upsell.
He never said he didn't want a small job, but he also didn't cancel when it was clear that the job is small until over a week later.

Whether or not he can do good work isn't important here: if you can't trust someone, don't give them work.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION-
I am adding this additional information after seeing Gordon Retherford's response to my review-
Bullies don't like when a person fights back against them.
This job only required replacement of shutoff valves and the flexible gas pipe to the water heater, not a "complete redo".
Retherford never expected to get caught trying to cheat by making this a larger job than it was, but his way out was to do the job as a small job, charge what was fair, and do a good job.
Instead, he disappeared, leaving us hanging, after I made it clear that the job is small.
We got the job done by someone else, they did a great job, and now I am warning the public to avoid Top Notch Plumbing/Gordon Retherford because that might help someone else.
Look at his response!
He, in his own semi-literate way, tries to keep lying about the job AND tries to insult me!
Just his attitude should be a warning to avoid him.
And, the County of San Diego DOES NOT require a permit for the installation of a replacement water heater, if done by a California licensed plumber, so there is no code violation.

This was the easiest transaction with the best service I've had in a long time. Called Gordon and he answered right away. Communicates well over the phone and was easy to set an appointment with. Came out the next morning and arrived 5 minutes early. Introduced himself, gave me a quick rundown of what he was going to do, and got right to work. Was in and out in about 30 minutes. Left the entire area clean when completed. Quality work and very fair pricing. I love supporting small bsuinesses and good, honest people like this. Will be calling and recommending him in the future.

I am so glad we called Top-Notch Plumbing! They were able to fit us in the same day we called. Gordon told me exactly what was needed before he started any work. He went through all the completed work with me, also. The work was fast and efficient! I will definitely use Top-Notch Plumbing again!

Gordon from Top Notch Plumbing made quick work of a toilet leak, something I would normally do myself but for a bad back. He completed the wax ring replacement in 30 minutes,, the price was reasonable, and the workmanship was excellent. No hesitation recommending Top Notch for plumbing work. Definitely keeping his business card in the file of trusted companies.
