Home Services reviews in Chicago, Illinois

I have used fixer in two of my houses and had the same issue with both these places
1. At one house I wanted sink faucet to be replaced.
2. At another house wanted deadbolt to be replaced.
Let me tell each case in detail
1. At place 1 kitchen faucet was leaking and the issue was with the facuet pipe wire, and the fixer went and brought a replacement, while keeping the shopping clock run. Guess what, he brought a wrong pipe, and he could not fix it. And I was charged the whole amount for 1 hour of work plus shopping time, while the issue was not fixed. While I passed it off and left without complaining.
2. I booked them again for my another house to replace deadbolts in my door. Guess what, the fixer brought the wrong product and spent lot of time fixing that wrong deadbolt on my door, while I was charged for the time and also for shopping. Since he could not fix it, he came the next day with another fixer and fixed it. Again I was charged for the next days hourly effort.
This time I complained because it costed me almost 400$ (excluding the cost of the deadbolts) to get the deadbolts replaced.
I have never had such expensive deadbolt replacements in my life, I had to argue with them to get the price reduced, and they gave me a paltry 25$ to 35$ discount.
Pathetic way to bleed customers money. I would not recommend fixer to anyone. And BEWARE new/existing customers, if they bring wrong products, talk to them to cancel your entire charge, if not you will end up paying 400$ instead of 139$. -
UPDATE 6/13/23: they refunded my money after I complained again. I would still be highly wary of using Fixer for plumbing issues that aren't dead simple. They just don't have the right equipment or people.

I booked Fixer to unclog a shower drain. I did not have the right kind of auger to do this job myself, but it was a VERY simple job.
Positives:
- Usually easy to book, but they canceled our first appt even though it was available on the website and then removed all slots after 3pm for the week...fishy as h*ll
- Good communications
Cons:
- Fixer shows up with a bucket and a $20 auger from amazon and spends 40 minutes doing nothing
- Still charged me $129 for nothing
I ended up calling a plumber and they fixed the drain in less than 5 minutes because they brought the right equipment. Never again. Don't be lured in by the low prices and nice booking experience. Their fixers are not skilled and have no idea what kind of tools to even use for most jobs. This is not my first experience with Fixer employees that don't know what they're doing. I have had to assist previous fixers that had no clue what they were doing.
tl;dr; if you want someone with any amount of skill, do NOT choose Fixer. -
My experience with Fixers was awesome. Andrew and Nino are amazing! I just moved into my house and had a list of to-do’s for them including installing ceiling fan, replacing kitchen faucet, fixing closet doors, assembling an office desk and two bath cabinets. They did not disappoint. Very professional, polite. and on time. I’ve join the Fixer Care program that offers amazing perks for future visits. I highly recommend this company.

Repairman shows up. Looks at my washer and says, “this is outside of our scope, I can’t repair that. You need a technician.” Then leaves in less than 15 minutes. Repair incomplete. Sends me an invoice for $129. This is a scam. Tried calling the 800 number to discuss and it’s a recording. No live person to discuss.

Felix from fixer was right on time to fix the leak in the sink in one of my apartments, he is knowledgeable and he was able to figure out the parts we needed easily. He did a very great job and he was very considerate in timing the work done which helped put my repair cost in a very good place. I will use this technician again and I recommend Fixer.

I hired this company to hang mirrors and other misc. items in my new bridal store location. the guys were great but when I went to pay my bill they asked for feedback. I felt I wasn't given a realistic time frame of how long the job should take. The guys that came were good, on time and careful but hanging 8 mirrors, some very large, in 2 hours couldn't have happened. Long story short, I gave this feedback to the company and they credited me back 2 hours worth of my payment. I didn't ask for any money off my bill because the guys weren't extremely slow or anything, I was just given an unrealistic time frame. This shows me that they care and would want me to use their services again and I will!

I like Fixer. They do a great job. The same young man always comes to my home. I like when a company retains their employees. Shon does great work and he gives me tips on keeping things running well in the house. I had them hang 2 TV’s on the wall for me. Excellent job! Didn’t make or leave a mess. I work a lot so this is a terrific way to keep my home in tip top shape. When you own property, you must take care of it, otherwise a small problem can grow into a large one and end up costing more money. Fixer is great. I have a membership. Small home. But it’s my pride and joy!

LOVE THESE GUYS. So quick, personable, and high quality. Will continue to come back for everything I need.

Sherri arrived on time, super informative and efficient. Quality of painting and electrical work was five stars. Awesome to get things fixed and done that just don't get done these days, with a smile and quickly along with great attention to detail. Five stars across the board. We look forward to another round of projects in and around the house here in North Seattle. Excellent job and a great idea for us homeowners.

Fixer is my number one go to for all repairs and maintenance work I need done. I have only had positive experiences with them and this most recent time was even more exceptional than I remember! Patrick J. came to install a ceiling fan and was literally right on-time, covered his shoes, confirmed with me a few questions he had and completed the work earlier than estimated. He did a great job and the fan looks beautiful. Thank you!

Fixer is modern, efficient and transparent. They've done an awesome job of taking a difficult process (finding and hiring a contractor or service technician) and making it super easy. It was easy to book an appointment. The two guys who mounted our TV were professional and got the job done quickly. They took care of the equipment and made sure it all functioned well. The billing was transparent. Two techs helped with this project, and I could see the billing for each one them broken out online. It was easy to pay (through their website) and even tip via their website. I'd highly recommend this service because it really has solved a lot of the friction and stress of securing and paying for this kind of work.

I’ve used fixer 6 times in the past 3 years and every experience has been positive. My most recent issue was a broker toilet valve and the repairman arrived with 2 hours of me placing the call!! Fixer is my go to company for home repairs!
-
Quite simply, the best home repair experience we've ever had. The technician was sure, polite, thorough, timely, confident, knowledgeable... Plus the cost was quite reasonable. Fixer will be our first choice for whatever household repair needs.

I called for some drywall repair in the kitchen of a condo i own, as there were mice coming in for the winter. Fixer was super responsive! Steve D. from Fixer arrived on time, was friendly and approachable, and offered up solutions beyond what i had requested, and they were great! He was efficient, very clean and as i mentioned, he was super friendly and knowledgeable. I would use Fixer and Steve D. for any additional project going forward. Priced right as well!

They charge you bundle. They send rookies with no experience. They charge per hour and take too long. The work is of poor quality. They charge me 1600.00 dollars. They install only two doors. That too, only one is of good quality. The other door needs to be reinstalled

As a business owner, I understand how important 5-star reviews are, and Fixer was outstanding in their overall responsiveness and their high quality of work, and how quickly they got the job of repairing the wall under my tenants sink done quickly! Best in the business and will use them on future jobs within the building.

Our fixer, Nate, was thorough and proactive in all the work he did. He identified areas to make the work and repairs better, and went above and beyond to help us get a great outcome. We purchased the membership and plan to use a fixer for several other repairs around our property!

Fixer (I spoke with Nick) was super helpful and accommodating throughout the whole process. I had a last minute schedule change on the day of service and there was no hesitation to accommodate the change. They were efficient and friendly.

I was absolutely ecstatic to find out that Fixer had new owners and the company would live on. The handiman I worked with a couple of years ago was great, and their team came in handy for research on other projects. I recommended Fixer often (until I found out the company closed).
I could not be more disappointed in the company's policy and concierges now. Although Fixer charges at least $150 more than six other estimates I got, I kept thinking, "But I know their work. I should just pay the higher rate." I was still hesitating because even their higher estimate sounded like it could increase based on the reason for the repair. When I read the Terms & Conditions policy on their website, there was nothing about a warranty on there. I decided to move on and seriously talk to the other six contractors who were contacting me.
But the concierge followed up about my original request. I explained that the company having no warranty made me nervous because I could end up stuck paying for a job that needs to be redone. They heard me out and agreed to a one-year warranty as long as it was their workmanship. Although I still winced at the invoice just linking to their website where they could change the terms again any time they felt like it, I seriously considered them again. They confirmed that they would not match the price of one of the six contractors (who I decided not to work with because his LLC and invoice was sketchy).
Fast forward to ONE DAY LATER and me realizing I could fix one repair myself (after speaking with another homeowner) and completing it yesterday evening. I decided to go ahead and hire them for the other, more-involved job. If the job was more expensive, so be it. At least I knew it would be with a company I could trust.
And somehow, even though I agreed to THEIR higher rate and the potential that it could be higher, they backtracked on their own warranty agreement. It's like I'm being punished for having the audacity to shop around for cheaper contractors and having the wherewithal to fix one repair by myself. Shame on me, I suppose. After a bunch of back and forth and them backtracking on their own DOCUMENTED price that I'd already sent to the insurance company, I threw in the towel. I will hire someone else. I'm not about to beg a company to pay them.
I miss Old Fixer. New Fixer leaves much to be desired. -
Ramiro arrived and got right to work remounting a large kitchen cabinet that was pulling away from wall. He found the stud (that the previous installer had missed) to remount but soon realized the cabinet backing was falling apart. He devised a plan to keep it intact and get it securely fixed to the wall. He returned the next morning to get the crown molding in place as well. I'm very grateful to get my cabinet secured and usable again! Thanks for the hard work Ramiro!!
