Had Cahill come out to look at the air conditioning unit at out condo. Another company in Evanston had previously looked at it and told us we needed to replace the compressor to the tune of $3k! Cahill's repair technician actually spent the 2 minutes to figure out what was REALLY wrong which amounted to a faulty $45 part. Within 15 min we had cold air. Very happy with the service.

We called for emergency service on a Sunday and were encouraged to wait until the next day and told we would be prioritized. We were given a 12-4pm service window. They didn’t meet that service time and will now be charging us overtime. Such a failure and very unfair. If they couldn’t service us, we would have called another company. Very disappointed. Previously loyal customer lost forever.

Great service from the servicemen. Had a plumbing job that another company refused to do because they didn't know what to do. Cahill's men didn't even flinch and finished the joj quickly and perfectly. Taking off 1 star because initially it was hard to get them scheduled.

Excellent service! Very professional and knowledgeable!

Both technicians Rich & Jason were great!Professional, patient, informative and thorough. Although we never met Scott, he was funny & helpful. He gave us a few options and instructs over the phone during a snowstorm that brought clarity & calmed our worries abt the leak. Great company!

Cahill has the staff and the expertise to resolve complicated and mission-critical plumbing and heating issues. When it's time to bring out the big guns, we've relied on Cahill for many years.

Never again! Used Cahill for standard boiler maintenance, which included replacing the thermocouple, Dec 2019 @ cost of $350. All good. Had standard maintenance performed on the boiler again Jan 2021, again included replacing the thermocouple. This time the cost was $518! Less than 3 months later, we didn’t have any heat. To have a Cahill service person come out it would be a brand new call and charge – even if it was the thermocouple that was just replaced 3 months earlier. CAHILL ONLY COVERS THEIR LABOR FOR 30 DAYS!! Insane! I used a competitor and sure enough it was the thermocouple. There are way too many other options in the market than to go with this one who is not only one of the costliest but also doesn’t stand behind their work.

Receiving a $684 bill for a "annual Turn-On/clean" service. When the technician arrived, he called me once to tell me what services he was completing. When I asked him what the total would be, he said he would call me back to discuss. I never hear from him again. I did call the same cell phone 8 different times with no answer. I then called the office and left several messages with the "accounting" department. I did not receive a return call until almost 3 months later. Upon discussing the issue, they sent me a $689 bill. When I told them, that I never heard back, and had to hire another contractor to complete the work they supposably started. The company hired (invoice attached) did the entire job for $456.00, which included the same services that John J. Cahill was claiming. I had used John J. Cahill's service prior, and did not run into any issues. I did have a discussion with the owner, and told him that his previous technicians were professional and finished the job with no issues. He stated, "Yeah, because of COVID, we've had issues finding good technicians, and I'm sorry that they never got back to you". That's great, but if that's the case, why am I still receiving a bill? I even sent them the contractor (Deljo Heating and Repair) that did the job that they didn't and invoiced me only 3 weeks later for the same work they were claiming they did. Still, I now have a bill and threatening lean from them for $689 for work they never did.

They were at my house for an hour trying to figure out what was wrong with my furnace. I was then told they needed to order a part. They then invoiced me for over $300 for their time and told me I would be invoiced when they came back again for the part plus additional labor to install the part.

Their hourly rates are unreasonably high and I recommend people look elsewhere for more reasonable HVAC rates.

Hire them if you want the best. Their service has been great. All their plumbers are top notch. They show up when they say and leave the site fixed and in ship shape.

They're especially great for vintage buildings having fixed waste stacks and pin hole supply leaks in the wall in mine.

Anyone who's lived in such places knows how tricky things can be. But their experience shows. All work was done well and done quickly.

Only reason for a four star rating is their hourly rate is steep. I understand, "you get what you pay for" and they are a skilled trade. However, I'm a tax accountant and don't bill as much.

Excellent company but the rates they charge residential customers are too high. If you need a faucet changed or other relatively simple jobs like toilet replacement, go find another plumber or be prepared to drain your bank account. Too many good plumbers are charging sky high rates with Cahill leading the pack. That said, I use them regularly for other complex tasks which justifies their high rate.

Charley is terrific, personable, efficient in every way. Other Cahill techs have also been great.

John J Cahill has been my family’s go to service since I can remember. Every time we come across a stressful plumbing issue (big or small) we can always count on straightforward answers and hard work from whoever comes out.

I’m so happy with the way everything turned out. I could tell my 35 years old furnace needed to be replaced… just not this soon 🥺🥶, lucky for me, Cahill is just down the street. I called that “alphabet” company with the fancy commercials but all they cared about was selling me a new unit. They didn’t even inspect the unit before telling me it needed to be replaced and then did a lot of double talk and gave me two very high quotes… I felt like I was buying a used car.

When the service tech from Cahill called me back the same day and said he was on his way I was so happy. When the tech arrived, he put booties on his shoes before he came into the house. He spent more time inspecting the unit and even got it started unlike the “alphabet” company and then he showed me exactly why the furnace needed to be replaced.

The next day, Tim came out and gave me a reasonable quote for the work and said they could install it this week. No games, no gimmicks just an honest transaction.

The furnace was installed the next day and I’m so pleased with the performance. For the first time since moving in 13 years ago, the house is evenly warm throughout. Everyone I dealt with was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional.

Used them a few years ago. They are spectacular! Extremely professional and respectful. The only “down” side is that good service certainly costs more. However, the price is transparent and should not be the reason for those one-star reviews!

Price gouging and carelessness. Longtime customer turned to Cahill for a sink backup. Ended up with many unexpected charges: 1st visit (2 1/2 hours!), 2nd visit (because the plumber didn't have the right equipment the first time and once he did it took 30 mins). Also tried to replace toilet handle but didn't have the right part. The toilet was left running so we turned off the water making it unusable. The sink faucet was left in an awkward position where the water ran close to the divider; it does not turn so we asked to replace that faucet. After two weeks, I followed up to learn the faucet was in, but nothing was ordered for the toilet. To stop the bleeding, I decided to find another plumber (higher than average hourly labor cost, too). They wanted a 35% restocking fee! A few days ago after not locating the 10-year parts warranty for a new complete HVAC they installed more than a year ago, I learned that no one from Cahill registered with the HVAC company as indicated on the invoice. This was completed, but more than a year late.

    Unprofessional in handling phone calls.
Left message and not returned. Then, appt set was missed. Dis-interested.

They are VERY difficult to deal with. The billing department is HORRIBLE! I am being falsely accused of not paying my bills, and no matter how many times I; call, text, write letters, they are still saying I am responsible, even though they did not provide the service they are billing me for!
Disregard, this response from Cahill! They are IMPOSSIBLE to deal with! The so called "emergency call" was not my unit, and they REFUSE to take my name off of the bill, no MATTER WHAT I DO! I have half a mind to report them to the better business bureau!

Cahill is our go to for both HVAC and plumbing. They have been invaluable in helping us as we moved into a 110+ year old house in both general maintenance as well as system updates. They are responsive, thoughtful, and comprehensive, and really helpful and reasonable in planning for needed updates. We recommend them to everyone!!

I'm updating my previous review. I had gotten a bill from Cahill that I didn't agree with and left a review here. I got a very thoughtful call from Charlie Cahill to clear up the confusion. He was kind and thoughtful and I appreciated his professionalism. We settled for the full amount immediately thanks solely to his approach. Thanks, Charlie!
