Plumbing reviews in St. Louis, Missouri

Always professional, prompt, and get the job done right. When you call they are polite and professional, when you schedule a job they show up on time, and the plumbers that come out are top of the line. They will answer questions, and even offer solutions that my questions didn't address. I have worked with other companies that were not bad, at all, but Merlo goes above and beyond.

I originally contacted Merlo because of a leaking faucet in my bath tub. Devin came out scheduled for 8:00 arrived 8:15 (no problem at all). I explain the issue again, showed him where everything was and left him alone to do his profession. 20 min later he walks out the door, I assume he's grabbing a part, but then he drives away. I walk into bathroom and see everything pulled apart so I then figured he had to go pick up the part from somewhere. He returns about 9:00 am, finish the job close to 9:30 and gives the price of 300.00 or so.
"I" then asked for a cost breakdown and I asked him to show me what he to resolve the issue. and he explained what he did (per the receipt: "Replaced Phistor Shower Stems")... I realized that he was not here for 3 hours barely 2, and when I addressed that he took off the extra hour or so he falsely added. total now 245.50 for time and parts... after this I was not satisfied with my experience but was content because the original problem was fixed "the leaky faucet".
A week or so later I realized the shower and valves weren't functioning like they use to. Contacted Merlo, and Devin returned to adjust the problem... for a short time it seemed okay, but the shower was still not functioning properly.
Now it's been about 2 months from the original visit, I contact Merlo on a Tuesday and explained the ongoing issue since the first visit, they said they can get someone different on Thursday or if I want the same guy I would have to wait until next week. I said no I need the issue looked at sooner. Fine Thursday between 10-12 it is.
Worker Doug calls at 9:47a.m. on Thursday and arrives a few minutes after 10 a.m. I explain the issue and experience, I stand there and he turns the shower on and adjust a valve and the shower pressure was fine but only from one head he explained probably eventually I may have to replace it because its older and I asked questions to make sure the drizzle from the faucet was the reason for the shower issue etc.... Ending result, he didn't have to do any labor and was here for 5 minutes. Charges for the day "145.00"..
Now do I need to list the problems I have experienced so far from this company??? Between poor communication and totally trying to get over with cost, not to even mention the quality of the work not being as impressive.
First call Doug make to the office ended with "deduct 30.00 from the bill". Now he and I are conversing, once again I'm explaining this ongooing issue, now I can't understand what I'm being charged for... when the company number 1 NEVER discussed how they operate, is there a flat diagnosis fee etc? As a customer if a company doesn't mention a fee upfront then there's no charge until labor is being done (at least from my experience with other professional companies).
After going back and forth and a second call to the office the result was for me not to worry about the charges.
Only reason Merlo is getting 1 star is because I do appreciate their attempt on fixing the original issue and coming back out to examine why nothing is functioning properly since they "fixed" the original issue. My overall experience would be Zero stars because of how they operate; lack of communication with the customer and operating out of dishonesty.
I am a first time homeowner, single, young female and to reach out to a company I put trust into helping me solve a problem that is not my expertise, but to only be totally ripped off.
I would not say I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone because maybe they are good at how they perform in their profession, however they do not demonstrate professionalism to me at all. Therefore, I would rather share my experience with others and let them be the judge....and beware. -
I called Merlo on 5/14 to see about fixing some issues with a new sink/vanity I had, and to install 3 shutoffs, Steve came to do the work, he was not in any hurry to get the job done, and it took him an hour and 20 minutes to get a $28 part from the supply house, with the travel time the part cost over $150. In addition to the long drive time, I overheard him on the phone at least 4 times talking to other people about jobs - while he was on the clock at my location. I called Merlo after the job was done to let them know I was not happy with the additional time I was billed for that he was not working, but I did not want any type of credit or refund.
Several days later my wife noticed that the drain was leaking in two places, I called the service department and talked to Mason, very nice guy. I had to call back several more times to get an appointment for them to come out and fix the leaks, on Thursday 5/24, Mason told me they would be out on Wednesday 5/30 at 3 for the repair.
I left work early so I would be home by 3, but at 4:55, when no one showed up or called I called Mason again.
After several attempts to get an explanation, or to talk to someone who could help me, Mason said "to be honest with you, Steve(original plumber) said I was a con man and not to do business with me any more", I've never been called a con man before in my life.
I asked him if I was a con man, why, when I called in originally to voice my concerns, I did not ask for any type of refund, or stop payment on the check I wrote. And why was the plumber on other calls while at my house, and why the drain leaked
Mason told me to call back in the morning.
My bill was $624.50, I'm not asking for a refund, credit, or any other type of monetary compensation, I just want to get the leaks fixed.
Once the leaks are fixed I would not do business with a company who calls a paying customer is a con man, and would not recommend them to anyone else. -
Tony was amazing!! I had a pipe freeze and crack under my mobile home. And after calling multiple places i called Merlo to see if they worked on mobile homes and if they had any emergency openings. Right away they got me on the schedule (same day). Within a couple hours Tony called to let me know he would be at my home. I was initially told around 6pm but Tony wanted to give me a heads up he had a few commerical jobs a head of me. He didn't get to me until after 9pm. But he able to repair the leak fast and explained everything he was doing and how to keep it from happening. There was heat tape, however with how low the temp got along with wind chill he had some recommendations for extra coverage that i would have never thought of. I will definitely use them again when needed and will have them as my top plumbing recommendation.

I couldn’t be more pleased with the work Dave from Merlo Plumbing did in our kitchen! He was professional, thorough and pleasant to be around! He improved the plumbing set up and set a new disposal under our sink. He was actually excited about the improvements he was making - and we are thrilled with the improvement in the way our plumbing works!! We are going to have them replace our hot water heater next! I highly recommend Merlo for your plumbing needs!!

If I could give them a negative 5-star I would!!!
Called them for a water pressure problem that the water company detailed needed to be done. After reading what the water company wrote, they proceeded to do work that DIDN'T need to be done. Nearly $1000 later and they did NOT fix the water pressure problem.
Water company rep called them and told them to come back out and fix it according to their instructions. She also told them to fix the work they did because it wasn't done properly. They sent the "plumber" back who had a bad attitude and did nothing. Said he couldn't turn off the water main (which wasn't true according to the water company rep).
Months of contacting them and they wouldn't respond or send out a plumber. Nor would they refund our money, which the water company rep told them they needed to do since they did the WRONG work and did it so poorly.
We then had a pipe leak from the work they did do that they were supposed to come and do properly but never did. Water all over our finished basement. We should have made them come out and fix it but truthfully, my fiance' didn't want them to come and make things worse. "Why call an imcompetent company to fix the problem they created?" was his response. I couldn't disagree with his logic.
At the very least, they should have refunded our money!!!
Will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever - did I say "ever"? - recommend this company to anyone. I don't recommend them to you either. -
I couldn’t be more happy with Merlo Plumbing. They were able to find my problem and fix it, for now. It’s only because my house is old but for now I have a problem fixed. The young man was knowledgeable and cleaned up afterwards. I would recommend them to anyone.

Worst people to ever do buisness. They delayed my permits by three weeks. The best was they said they would dispose of my credit card numbers yet didn’t for over three weeks without my permission. They called my landlord as well saying wasn’t going to pay a bill that was not even past DUE! Be careful

So glad I got my water heater replaced with Merlo. Doug did a fantastic job. I highly recommend Merlo if you want high-quality work at a fair price.

My husband has Alzheimer’s and flushed hand towels in two of our bathrooms. We took a chance and called this service.
Our tech was very
professional and understanding. He fixed everything and his charge was very reasonable. Merlo is definitely our go-to plumber now. Highly recommend. -
Excellent service! Thought I needed a water heater but my Merlo serviceman, Tyler, said I didn’t need it. They did not sell me something I didn’t need! He also did some other plumbing for me that was not previously scheduled. This is a top notch company! Check them out and ask for Tyler! 5 stars 👏

Very responsive when we had a bit of an issue, very professional and no-nonsense, reasonable rates. Recommended.

Installed water heater and updated much of the galvanized steel pipe work (100 year old property) in a timely fashion. Worked with both Matt and Doug, easy to communicate with both. Integrity in their work; could have updated more, but they advised not to spend too much money until a direct need arises. Reasonable pricing and will be using them in the future for plumbing needs!
Doug Back out Feb. 2022. Was on time , only took about 6 hours what we expected to be 8 in changing shower components, pipes, and a toilet. Old toilet didn't have a shut off valve, so provided a long term valve replacement that avoids having to dig into walls to replace galvanized steel pipes (again old house problems) that would cost us more money & hassles! -
We contacted Merlo Plumbing after our water heater pilot light went out following water in our basement. I spoke with Joe, who said they would come out as a courtesy to try relighting the pilot light. I confirmed multiple times that this visit was complimentary—no service charge—just to see if it would relight, since we already knew our 2009 GE water heater was too old for parts.
We had called several companies beforehand, and most quoted between $100–$200 for a visit, all stating they couldn’t get parts for an older model. Merlo was the only one that offered to come by as a courtesy. I even confirmed again with Jacobe, the technician.
Jacobe came out, successfully relit the pilot, and left a blank service ticket noting one hour of service but showing $0.00. We were thrilled! We truly thought we had found an honest, reliable company. We had already discussed calling them back when needed, to replace the water heater with either a standard or tankless model and had planned to recommend them to friends and neighbors.
Unfortunately, the next day, Joe from the office called asking for an email to send a bill—completely contradicting what was said. While we can afford the charge, it’s the principle that matters. Offering a “courtesy visit” and then changing the terms afterward is misleading and unethical.
It’s disappointing because we genuinely wanted to work with this company in the future. Sadly, after this experience, we won’t be calling Merlo Plumbing again. I’m leaving this review to caution others—especially those who might not be able to handle surprise bills like this. Honesty and integrity matter, and this experience fell far short. -
The price for my project was reasonable compared to other bids. Good coordination of the work. They also would send a photo of the worker before the person arrived to start work.

JR Plumbing was highly recommended to me and I am glad I went with them. Jimmy was professional and friendly. He patiently answered all my questions (just moved into the house and had quite a few). Thanks!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Had a leak in the only shower at a rental property. They got to me quickly, fixed, and charged a fair price. Definitely recommend!

Like always something goes wrong right before a big event, and this time it was no different. Of course we all want it scheduled like "yesterday" knowing you're not the only one with plumbing issues. But sure enough JR Plumbing stepped up to the plate and made the problem their own! Prioritizing my concerns and informing me step-by-step through the process letting you know everything was going to turn out just fine and things would be back to normal in no time!

Always a great experience with JR Plumbing, I like these guys!
