Reviews of local pros in Gladstone, Oregon

Where to begin...
I had an inspection done by another chimney company. I received 2 estimates and Lifetime was less costly. I wanted to make sure that they were going to do all of the work on the inspection report so I sent emails to make sure that they were going to replace the rusty, existing roof flashing. They did not reply to the emails but instead called me and said that they would replace all of the flashing. I even sent a diagram of proper flashing (roof and counter flashing) and they replied by email "yes this is exactly how we do it". I was given a color choice and requested a specific color brick.
I was never provided with an actual contract, only an invoice. I found out later that a written contract is required in Oregon for work over $2000. On the day of the work I received an email from Lifetime owner Jim pointing out the missing roof flashing (that was pointed out in the original inspection, including photos) and asking what I wanted to do about it. When I told him that I had discussed this with "Bryan" I was told that he no longer worked there and that in any event they did not do roof flashing only counter flashing ( I found out later from 2 different chimney companies that they routinely replace the roof flashing as part of the job) .
I then looked over the emails from Bryan and called Jim back. He was did not answer his cell and it did not take messages. His office said that he went fishing and turned his phone off. Next day I spoke to Jim and said that I wanted to have the roof flashing done before they installed the counter flashing. He said all of the work was completed. I then told him that they used the wrong brick color. He responded that he would split the cost of the roof flashing with me for compensation and that the cost would run between $1200-$1800. He then had his own roofer go out and look at the roof. My tenants got his card and I called him 3 times with no return calls. I was then sent his estimate by Lifetime and it was for $650, and that they had already authorized the work. I told jim that I had tried to call the roofer and he did not call back and that I wanted to speak to him prior to doing the work. At that time Jim told me that he was tired of working with me and told me to find my own roofer. I had to fly up to Portland from California and meet with several chimney/roofing companies to get estimates over 2 days. At that time one of the chimney companies pointed out that Lifetime did not use the original 8" bricks (still locally available) and instead used 7 ⅝", which required an extra cut and resulted in a seam running up the chimney with the seam in an almost straight line, which would cause weakness of the structure.
I called Jim but his office did not answer. I emailed him and told him of the incorrect size of bricks and wanted him to come by and take a look. He refused. I mentioned that the chimney may be defective and could affect the resale value of the house and that I wanted him to it replaced using 8" bricks. He refused and eventually told me that I was "harassing him" and that he would not return emails or calls and that any further discussion would have to be done through mediation (which is invalid because he had no written contract with conditions).
Working with this company was a nightmare. They say one thing then don't honor what they say. More than once Jim told me that since it was not in the job description on his invoice (roof flashing, correct brick size) he did not have to correct their poor workmanship. They also sprayed water down the chimney with the flue open resulting in wet ash going into the living room, which my tenants had to clean up. Lifetime Chimney is unprofessional and entire process of working with them was frustrating and painful.
The photo on the left shows the original chimney with the correct size bricks. Each vertical seam is in the middle of the brick below. The other photo shows the Chimney that Lifetime installed using smaller bricks creating an extra seam that almost lines up vertically.
If I could I would post no stars! -
It was a pleasant experience from start to finish. Brian, who set up my appointment for a cleaning, was very friendly and even funny. He walked me through the process and was able to get me on the schedule for the following week. Miguel, the tech, was very polite and professional. He did his work quickly and didn't make a mess. He even lent a hand in putting my space back together again.
One thing though, he doesn't like glizzies as much as Brian thinks.
Don't believe the hype like I did.
All in all possibly the best service experience ever!
Thanks guys! -
Outstanding! Michael was thorough in his inspection and explained everything to me from changes to chimney safety over time (our house was built in 1928) to what we can and need to do today. He gave me suggestions but did not try and sell me anything I didn't need. After the inspection I had him install a stainless steel chimney cap for $275. We had one done at our other house that cost over $500 a few years ago. Lifetime Chimney is my personal go-to from now on and the place I recommend!

Mike Porter was amazing. He pretty much single handedly rebuilt our chimney. Yes he had support on the ground but all the hard work was him. Our new chimney looks beautiful and we are so pleased. Mike was very friendly, easy to work with and stayed on task all day. I would recommend Mike to anyone that needed chimney work done.

We had an excellent experience with Lifetime Chimney.
We have a chimney that we never use that needed to have a cap put on. Another company said they would only rebuild the entire fireplace and chimney. We never intend to use the fireplace and just needed to protect it from weather and creatures getting in. (We couldn't afford a complete rebuild in any case.) Lifetime Chimney saved us! They completed some repairing so they could install a cover/ cap, and they pressure washed the chimney. Miguel did an excellent job and was very kind.
When I first called in, I spoke with Brian who was incredibly helpful! I was worried when I called in, but Brian explained what they needed to do. He patiently gave me clear information. The chimney looks great and it makes the house look great. We're relieved to have it protected now.
I would hire this company again! -
What a great experience I just had with Lifetime Chimney! Mike came to my house on time (even a few mins early, which was great) and was super nice, respectful, and thorough while he was hear. He cleaned out my chimney and firebox and did an inspection of the exterior. When he was done he walked me through what he had found and various options for taking care of the issues that needed to be addressed. No hard sell or pressure tactics, just giving me all the information and letting me know what to consider. He left the place spotless and was professional and friendly the whole way through. 100% top notch!

Would highly recommend Lifetime Chimney! Brian was easy to communicate with and schedule with. We found a significant leak in our attic and Lifetime was able to squeeze us in to completely rebuild our chimney only three days after we called- two weeks earlier than we were originally scheduled. The team was friendly, on time, and respectful- highly recommend!

I am very happy with Lifetime Chimney and the work they did on our chimney project. They were on time, did what needed to be done to remove old wood, reframe, plywood, wrap, put up the stone and cleanup. It was a job well done in a speedy time. The workmanship is great and loved working with them.
