We've been more than pleased with James' know-how, creative fixes, and friendly professionalism. He obviously takes pride in his work. His prices are fair, and he shows up when he says he will. He's our go-to guy now.

Our tech was friendly and professional. Respectful of our space and gracious when our dog excitedly greeted him. He knew exactly what the problem was and effectively repaired our dishwasher. Will definitely call then again for future appliance repairs.

We had a leak in a sealed system refrigerator that no one except James was willing to fix. He came out the day after we called and had it up and running in an hour! Very professional and knowledgeable, we highly recommend him!

I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE EVERYBODY IS AWARE THAT THIS COMPANY CHARGES $139 FOR A SERVICE CALL!! Over the phone they made it sound like it was going to be $69 for the diagnosis, and if we have the repair done "then it's just the $70, plus parts, we don't charge you anything more". I don't appreciate being hussled. At least be upfront about your pricing. Plus, the technician borrowed our shop-vac, twice, and left our garbage can full of heavy water that we had to carry outside and dump ourselves.

Washer was down nearly a week, called numerous different places & estimated wait time to schedule maintenance repair was 2 to 3 weeks! With lil ones at home wasn't able to wait that long... came across Knapp's (read the good reviews online then called'em up) spoke with James yesterday & was able to get everything scheduled for the following day; Paul was professional & explained the problem & got my washer fixed & going again. Would highly recommend Knapp's appliance repair service!!!

Adding to this review three years later to applaud James Knapp and Knapps Service and Appliance Repair for continued terrific service! James Knapp has built a thriving successful business with his integrity, excellent service and professionalism. He's the best.

I called Knapp Appliances after a strong recommendation from Dewhitt Appliance. Our warranty had expired, and my dryer was blowing nothing but cold air on the day before my husband's 50th birthday and a weekend of guests. James Knapp came the same day, sussed the problem, and went to great lengths to secure the part and install it so that I wouldn't be stuck with piles of laundry over a weekend of hosting. He had to leave to take care of some business and even returned that evening after business hours to finish the job! Knapp Appliances is a family business, and James Knapp is a terrific professional who provides outstanding service.

Our 2 year old fridge started making noise. We called some other places. The cost was high with a lengthy wait. Called Knapp and he was out the next day. He was able to fix the problem quickly. He was friendly and helpful. The price was surprisingly low. So appreciative. Recommend!

This is a company with phenomenal customer service and unassailable integrity. James and his team fixed our gas oven's internal leak and showed us how to maintain the igniters. Then, when the part they had replaced was defective (very rare occurrence, they said), they replaced it at no charge! They gave us very friendly and flexible service. Call Knapps!

James was very helpful from the first moment that I called to tell him what our broken refrigerator was doing. He knew the exactly what the problem was right away. I really appreciated him calling the night before our appointment and telling me when he would be here. He showed up on time and was super professional and friendly. Our refrigerator was up and running quickly and he even took the time to let my 5 year old daughter "help" him. We had a great interaction with him and his service was fantastic!

Our washing machine broke on Sunday Sept 26. We filed a ticket with our home warranty company. Even though Knapps did not reach out to me to schedule the appointment, they were able to come out Tuesday and look at the washing machine. The tech was friendly and on time. He was able to order a part. We had to wait a couple of weeks for the part. However, when we didn't get any updates on the part status, I called in to Knapps, but no response. I called our warranty provider and they said that the part number entered could not be found. It had to be one of two parts. The warranty company was waiting for Knapps to respond. When I was finally able to reach Knapps, the receptionist got upset at me because she said she entered in the info. I was just trying to help and expedite the process. When the part finally arrived, I called and the same receptionist said that the part might be in but she couldn't check since it was sent to her boss' house. She said she would call back but never did. Finally when I was able to get the appointment to have the part installed, the receptionist called me to tell me that the tech wouldn't be coming because the boss had a family emergency and the tech couldn't get the parts. I was quite upset. The tech finally installed the part, ran one load and then left. All seemed well. I ran one load and then the second load the washer stopped working. I called Knapps and the tech said he would put me on the calendar to come back out. He did, but couldn't figure out what was wrong. He said he was going to order another part. Since then, Knapps has not called us back. I reached out yet again to the warranty company and they let me know that Knapps had been sent their first return request for the part that was installed. I informed them that the part was still in my non-working washing machine. I now have been moved over to a new service provider and will have to wait until after Thanksgiving to have my washing machine looked out.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY!

Called 4 times. Never got a person and left messages each time. They never called back. We moved on and got an appointment from their competition. I guess Knapps has plenty of business and doesn’t want anymore. If that’s the case they should at least tell callers that on the answering machine.

Put in a call Monday morning about our washing machine and James was able to squeeze us in the next day. He immediately diagnosed the problem and was able to improvise a solution since he didn't have the exact part with him on the date of service. This brought the cost of the repair down, which was a plus! Washing machine is working fine now and we have a 90 day warranty.

We used Knapp in July to fix our washer which had a bad load sensor resulting in our washer overflowing. About 5 months later we started having issues with the spin cycle (associated with the load sensor) as well as the knob that was replaced (it had come loose and on further inspection the plastic clip on the base had broken off). The washer ended up overflowing again, flooding our mud room with 2 inches of water. I called Knapp as we were frantically trying to clean up the water and the receptionists first response was "oh, well unfortunately you're outside of our 90 day warranty". My response was "wow, how convenient for you all" to which she sighed said she would call the installer and get right back to me. It has now been 3 days and no one has gotten back to me from Knapp. Apparently their customer service plan is to first hold fast to their 90 day warranty plan (even though the issue was their fault) and then ignore the problem/customer altogether afterwards. Any appliance company in Portland can fix your washer/dryer, it's when things go wrong that you experience a companies true morals. Knapp's is short-sighted and only cares about one-offs. If you're looking for a reliable appliance repair company that you can count on for multiple jobs, look elsewhere.

James (the owner) and Dan fixed our fridge/freezer, and I would highly recommend them for future jobs.

We had called Sears first and got a run around on possible costs and problems, so we looked elsewhere and found Knapps. When we told James the problem on the phone, he asked if it was a Whirlpool (it was). He then told us he knew exactly what was wrong and how to fix it, and how much it would cost. And he was right on all counts.

We called Monday and they came Tuesday, right in the middle of their 2 hour window. They made quick polite small talk and then went right to it, which I greatly appreciated. They were in and out in about half an hour, but nothing about it felt rushed. They even put the food back into the freezer as I paid.

Overall, they were polite, friendly, quick, professional and got the job done at a great price. What more could I ask for?

When I first reached out in regards to needing my oven serviced, they were responsive and were able to send out a technician within a few days.

Everything seemed to work nicely for about three months, then my oven quit on me in the middle of baking one day. I reached out to Knapps to find out what their warranty was and also to try and get them back out - nothing but silence.

We should have just bought a new oven for the price we paid to this company.

From the kindness of the lady answering their phones, to the kindness and professionalism of their repairman dealing with both myself, and my elderly mother, these people are superior, and their prices were definitely fair, compared to some of their competitors.
The repairman did a diagnostic. Confirming that the problem I had diagnosed was correct, and then was kind enough to give me advice on how to properly and safely replace the parts needed myself, saving my mother and father an additional 95 dollars. Who does that nowadays?!

Furthermore, after Jordan the repairman left my parents home, my mother informed me that she would definitely hire them again, and refer her friends to them as well. This says a lot, as my mother Does Not usually give such a vote of confidence towards anything from the first visit.
And for that matter, I have already recommended them to one person, and will continue to do so in the future.

This company Definitely should be one of, if not the first place you call, should you ever need appliance repair in the Portland Metro area.
    Cheers!

The repair was quick and easy to schedule, and James showed up right on time. When the problem was diagnosed he gave me recommendations for where to find a replacement as well as a quote for the repair, and didn't rush the decision in any way. When I choose the repair, again the scheduling was quick and easy and the repair was done on time, on budget, with no mess or surprises. I definitely recommend this company!

We wouldn't hesitate to hire Mr. Knapp again. He repaired the compressor on our Frigidaire Gallery fridge. He did a great job, was friendly, communicative, gave good advice, and were not overcharged. I recommend him with no reservations. Thank you! The fridge is running like a champ!
