HVAC reviews in Portland, Oregon

I first called a competitor that sounds like a ship for astronauts. They came out and charged me for fixing issue ... never fixed it. Called them back and a manager came out and said we needed a new ac unit. Didn't seem right.
Called Jacobs heating & AC. They sent Emma out. She cleaned things up and found the problem right away. $175 vs $12,000. So glad we had Jacobs heating and ac come out!! -
We are now two furnace systems with Jacob's and added central A/C last year; would not consider another HVAC? They have been responsive and professional even in the direst of circumstances (heat or cold) Two thumb's way up! Thank and Bless you Jacob's, The Osborne's of Sherwood

Thank you Bryan D for fixing my heat pump. My house is cooling down as I write! Bryan D explained to me every step of the way what was happening. He also explained to me how my thermostat works at is best. Again, thank you and Jacobs for your service today!

My comments might be limited to Jacob’s boiler work, but I feel the takeaways may be useful for any customer. Simple maintenance call was performed by their presumed boiler expert. A wire was left askew and melted down. The callback tech was not the expert, but was Trained by the expert. Long story short after finding the wire issue and merely listening to the pump suggested that that needed to be replaced. Boiler Brothers came out after this and confirmed it was only a capacitor and the pump was fine saving us a few thousand dollars.

On a Friday afternoon around 5, I discovered our AC had stopped working. The house was 83 degrees. I called around and everyone told me they'd be there on Monday. I was looking forward to a long, miserable weekend until Chase from Jacobs called me back. He said he had a job in Portland but he'd call me after that. As promised, he called around 8 and said he'd be there in 30 minutes. He arrived, quickly found the problem, and fixed it, explaining what he was doing every step of the way. Then, although it was Friday night, he took the time to clean the coils of my AC and do other maintenance tasks, including some on the furnace. He was so nice and polite and hardworking. I was incredibly grateful that he was willing to come out and make sure we had a working AC. Great company!

I have had the good fortune to work with Jacob‘s since 1999. They not only installed the original HVAC in our home, they’ve maintained the HVAC beautifully ever since. We finally had to replace one furnace and I dealt with Greg Marshall to design the new furnace system. Greg was super helpful, knowledgeable and moved quickly to schedule us because winter was on its way. It was beautifully installed by Brandon. Brandon spent the whole day there and was polite, efficient and cleaned everything back to how he found it. We are just really impressed and happy with the job Greg and Brandon did. The new furnace is working beautifully, is efficient, keeps us warm and we just want to say we appreciate it.
In addition, at the heart of all our dealings with Jacobs is Nichole. What a terrific person to have as the spokesperson and ambassador for all our service needs. She’s always pleasant and always helps us get an appointment scheduled.
In the past, we worked with the wonderful Kim and Greg. Time passes and we now get to work with Diego and Christian Ortiz. These two guys are amazing and really know how to maintain an HVAC.
So thank you Jacob’s Heating and Cooling for keeping us comfortable. -
We have been using Jacob's for years for our museums in Troutdale. Today we had a new tech, Chase, and he is exactly who you want representing your company! Thorough, polite, and professional. I personally owned and operated an HVAC/R/Mechanical company for many, many years, and he would absolutely have been on my team of techs. Thanks for keeping the trade honest and professional. Nice work, keep it up!

Spencer's work exceeded my expectations. I worked from home the two days Spencer completed our installation. When I would ask how he was doing he always replied courteously. All of the units Spencer worked on were installed professionally. The units work great and the installation looks great too. Thank you Spencer.

Had an AC that leaked into my garage but figured it was also time to get my furnace checked out. Randy, the technician came out. He spent time cleaning both the AC and furnace. He redid the plumbing for the AC condensation and added a clean out so it could be easily cleared if it gets clogged in the future. He also advised how I could put a filter into my defunct Honeywell air cleaner to take more particles out of the air.
On top of it, he had time to inspect and clean my 30 year old gas fireplace. It’s never been cleaned. The glass front was clouded from years of use. It now looks brand new.
Can’t believe the time, advice, and careful attention to detail that we received today. Recommend Jacob’s and their technician, Randy, highly. -
I had the best customer service today from Jonny. He came to my home to service my furnace for winter and put in a new thermostat. On time, was great with my animals that don't see anyone outside of myself. Really nice young man.

Received a call from a technician in the field claiming I was working with them on a job. Called the office to help clarify that they had the wrong contractor. The receptionist was more than RUDE when I was only trying to help them with their problem. If this is how a business speaks to another tradesman I would hate to be a customer. GET BETTER HELP!!!!!

One star. I was quoted $175 for a 90 minute diagnostic visit and was required to put a credit card on file to book the appointment. I specifically asked to be contacted before any charges were processed so I could review them. Instead, my card was charged $361 without approval.
The technician was there for about an hour, replaced nothing, topped off refrigerant, and confirmed the system was operating within specs. I was then told the original $175 only covered 30 minutes of diagnostic time, which directly contradicted what I was told when scheduling. This felt like a bait and switch. Extremely disappointing and not transparent. -
AC was leaking water all over the basement floor. Chase from Jacob's came out and was immediately able to identify two possible issues. They cleared out a clogged pipe and fixed it right up. I really appreciate that Jacobs will actually fix problems and not just glance at a unit and tell you to replace it since it's old like some other people. Chase was super friendly and gave some great advice on making our old units last until we are ready for a heat pump, and what to look for when do transition systems in the future. We'll be back!

1. Woman owned
2. Previous positive experience with company
3. Bryan D made a courtesy call prior to arrival; provided clear information and documentation. I felt I received great value from Jacob’s. -
Bryan D. from Jacobs Heating and Air Conditioning did a service and maintenance visit this week for the natural gas furnace in my newly-purchased 75-year-old house. Fantastic work! He thoroughly inspected and tested all of the parts and functioning of the furnace and condenser. He seemed to enjoy my many questions and gave me helpful and understandable answers. I have a much better understanding of this new-to-me type of heating system, as well as the likely life of a couple of key parts and the system as a whole. He was friendly and professional. And he even recommended a local inexpensive source for a much higher quality air filter to help keep my HVAC system running efficiently. I highly recommend Jacobs.

Edit: Robert was sent out and he did excellent work, was polite and personable, taught me multiple things about my system and was transparent and honest.
Initial impressions not great. I sent in a request on their website a couple of months ago and never heard back from them. A couple of weeks ago they finally responded saying they had some kind of system problem. Fine. Talked to the service scheduler, Sam, and within that conversation, I stated that not only did I want to start a maintenance plan for my system, but that I didn’t trust the work of the previous installers. She quoted me a price and I explicitly asked if the diagnostics for my concerns would be included, to which she said yes.
Chase the technician arrives and now he is saying that diagnostics could cost extra. At this point, I tell him we will not be moving forward until this is figured out because that is not what I was told on my service call. Instead of proactively reaching out to rectify the situation, he suggests I call the service department while he waits. While I’m on hold with the service department, I guess he gets bored of waiting and says he’s gonna wait down in his truck. Ultimately, I was able to get Sam back on the phone. Of course she does not recall the conversation, but she does kindly say that if she had said that it was her mistake and she apologizes. She said she’ll talk to her manager and see what they can figure out and give me a call back. I never got a call back, but Chase shows back up at my door. Now he wants my credit card before moving forward, and ultimately says again that some diagnostics will be extra. I said that’s exactly where we left off when he left the first time. He tells me it’s company policy to charge for certain diagnostics. I said that while I understand that, that is not the agreement I went into this appointment with. He then says that Sam is new and doesn’t know some of these things. I said OK, but I expect the company to back up the agreement they made. And he said, “ma’am, I’m not playing this game with you today.” At that point I ended the interaction with an “ok” and closed my door.
Ultimately, I got Molly, the service manager on the phone. I explained to her the whole situation and she scheduled me with a new appointment and a new technician and made it clear that diagnostics would be included with the cost of the appointment. Update to come in a week.
However, the unprofessionalism of Chase was incredible. I get that Service technicians are not salesmen and charming people isn’t their focus. But you certainly can’t speak to people so rudely and unprofessionally when you’re working inside their homes. -
***updated at bottom***
Once they have your $10,000 they aren’t concerned with making sure the job was finished correctly.
We’ve used Jacob’s in the past and had a fine experience so we decided to go with them again (even though they were more expensive than another bid) for a new AC install and replacing an old furnace. They installed both units in June 2023 and we do have heating and cooling, HOWEVER, they didn’t have the correct size of a vent cover for the bottom of the furnace so they only screwed two screws down and the bottom is ajar by two inches. I don’t want any vermin making their way into our heating system. I had to make several calls and it was September when they were finally able to get someone to come back out and take a look. Bob confirmed that they did need to replace the vent cover but he never came back. It’s November 2023 now. I’ve called and left several messages over these months with their retro fit coordinator Michelle. She’s the only one you’re allowed to talk to on these matters, if you try any other department they are quick to tell you they can’t help you… As I was writing this, Molly, filling in for Michelle in retro fit called me and said she will call me back tomorrow after she talks to Bob to figure out what my situation needs and when they can fix it. I’m still going to post this review and edit when we get this resolved. ***Update*** They did call me and scheduled for Friday 8-8:30 arrive time. The tech was here on time and they installed a vent cover that fits. Success! Thank you, Jacobs. I wish it hadn’t taken multiple phone calls, multiple visits and 5 months but you got it done. -
Two winters ago our HVAC stopped putting out heat. We called one place, and after looking at our HVAC, they concluded that we had to replace the whole system, at a cost of $14,000. We then called Jacobs Heating, and Ryan came and looked at it and told us that there was nothing wrong with it. The reason for the problem was that we live in a condo tower, and the HVAC systems in the units are water-sourced. The weather had dropped to 17 degrees, too cold for a water-sourced HVAC to produce heat. Ryan is as expert as you can get. In the end, he only charged me for the visit and nothing else. I highly recommend Ryan and Jacobs Heating!

I manage multiple commercial/industrial properties in Portland, all with their own unique HVAC systems and Jacobs Heating and Air Conditioning is always the first call we make when we have issues with our equipment. It doesn't seem to matter the age or condition: their staff is always able to get things back and running quickly and at a fair price. Their service team is always responsive and stays on top of issues. Great, professional company. I hate when our HVACs go down, but I'm grateful I can always count on Jacobs for help.

Jacobs installed a ducted ductless system in my new ADU project with a unique layout and solution to heat and cool. They helped me through options in design and took the care to get things right during the build. Thank you all for contributing to a successful project!

We bought a house with a Jacobs furnace that had been installed about 8 years ago. It broke a few weeks ago and I called Jacobs, who sent a tech out and diagnosed a broken heat exchanger and inducer motor. While parts were covered by warranty, they sent a quote for $2k in labor. I called to ask the estimator for an itemized estimate that included how many hours the repair would take. In response, I received an updated estimate for $3,400, saying the first estimate was a mistake. I again called the estimator and left another voicemail, and received no response. I called the main number, and was told that they do not itemize labor costs, and instead use flat rates. So, even if you have a warranty for parts, they will send you an estimate for labor only without any justification for the cost.
Since $3k+ is a lot to repair an 8 year old furnace, I asked Jacobs to quote a new furnace. They said a salesperson would call, but nobody ever did. Of course, this back and forth with them is happening over several days when we do not have heat.
I eventually decided to buy a new furnace with another company, Pyramid HVAC, who were excellent to work with, answered the phone, responded to messages, etc. Would highly recommend going elsewhere, as Jacobs does not seem to have the staffing needed to meet the demand for their services.
I also learned that the furnace initially installed by Jacobs was oversized for the house, which likely led to it cycling on and off excessively and contributing to its premature failure.
