We had a great experience working with The Heating Specialist when replacing our old furnace and A/C. Our salesperson, Daniel presented us with a range of options that would best suit our needs, home size and budget. There was some issues about whether or not we could us our old A/C unit and in the end we opted for a newer energy efficient (quieter) model. They were able to schedule the installation the following week and Daniel was great following up the day before to confirm that they were still on schedule to do the work. Morgan & Chris showed up on time, laid down plastic and drop cloths from my back door down to where the furnace was which I appreciated as I have carpet and the furnace is in a finished basement. They were extremely pleasant and efficient. First explaining what they would be doing (part of the installation was to remove a vent from the chimney and reroute with new PVC pipe for more efficient air intake/out take) and letting me know along the way that everything was going well. After all was in place they walked me through all the important stuff like where the gas shut off valve is, how to use the new thermostat that was part of the package. Their clean up was spotless, couldn't even tell they were there!! Morgan was quick to point out that since it is winter they can't properly test the A/C but that we will get a call from the office When temps get above 65 to schedule a time to come out to fine tune it. They also arrange all the permits and will contact us to schedule the city inspection that is required. The furnace, which is a Lenox EL296V Gas, is so quiet I had to go downstairs to confirm it was on. I never realized how noisy our old one was!!! Can't wait to try the A/C as the old unit was so noisy you could sit out on our patio if it was on.
I am very please with the service and would totally recommend them to others.

I got multiple quotes for a full radiant floor heating system, boiler, and expansion tank, and The Heating Specialist offered the best price and service. Thomas, Grant, and Matty were professional, communicative, and easy to work with throughout the process. I feel very lucky to have worked with these three. They explained everything clearly, coordinated with my other contractors, and made the whole project smooth. Highly recommend!

Kevin came out, found the issue right away, came up with a replacement part, and got our heat back on in half an hour. He also helped us locate a thermostat upgrade to save some money. Quick, friendly, and effective service.

Thomas, who came to see my place and create the estimate, was professional and took the time to really understand my peculiar little cottage, and judging by the results he made the right choices for equipment. Stephen and Ruben, who installed the equipment were punctual and seemed to be highly skilled. I loved having them around, and they cleaned up well when they were done. The new heat pump is quietly keeping me warm. And a shout out to Presley, who keeps everything functioning behind the scenes: a clear communicator and well organized. This is a top notch organization, and I highly recommend it.

We are long time customers of The Heating Specialist. John performed our annual furnace maintenance today and was punctual and professional. He explained all aspects of our service call, reviewed all adjustments and cleaning of our heating system. We are ready to go for the winter heating season. We especially appreciate the maintenance contracts offered by this company. The Heating Specialist also maintains our air conditioning unit that we use in the warmer months.

I wanted a new furnace quote from The Heating Specialists and David was really helpful in showing up promptly, answering all my questions and not being pushy while I made my final decision on my own after he left. He was really pleasant to work with through that tough and big decision and again, not pushy, which is what I wanted. The installers were also super considerate and competent and swift in their work. There was then another issue where I needed help with the furnace / a smell I was smelling and within a couple of hours a technician named John was able to come and check it out and resolve the issue. He, too, was a great listener, competent in his work and knowledge, and I just appreciate how quickly The Heating Specialist team responded to my request for help. Thank you, Heating Specialist! The Heating Specialist has been my contractor for air conditioning and heating for many many years. They do fabulous work. John was just here today for maintenance on my furnace and I so appreciate the whole company.

I've used The Heating Specialist for the past four years to service my furnace and hot water heater. Matty is the dispatcher/scheduler and is quick, polite and very responsive. Kevin is my preferred tech. He is experienced, knowledgable, on-time, very friendly and a gentle soul...a pleasure to have in my home. Both have done an excellent job for me. What more can you ask from a company?? HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

The Heating Specialist did a huge job for me. We were building a new house and wanted hydronic radiant heat in the floors using a heat pump as the "boiler." After research, I found The Heating Specialist as one of two companies in the Portland area that did this type of work. We also wanted a heat pump hot water heater and had some fan ducting needs. The builder worked with both companies, with only The Heating Specialist responding in a timely manner. Once we got through some hiccups on work scope, work started.

The laying of the pipes to go under the gypcrete was done quickly, thoroughly, and efficiently. The spacing is very uniform and the three manifolds (three zones) were well thought out and well placed. The plumbing in the crawl space is worthy of a picture (which I will add later).

The heat pump installation (a SpacePak) was nicely done and well located. We have been impressed with how quickly it heats the buffer tank water and the whole house.

Things do sometimes go wrong, and how a company responds is the true measure. The Rheem heat pump hot water heater had a bad board (evidently a big problem in Nov 2024) that needed replacing. The Heating Specialist quickly diagnosed the problem, got a replacement board, and installed it. They are also debugging a problem with the SpacePak (my installation was the 12th in the Portland area). As with the heat pump hot water heater, The Heating Specialist is coordinating with their supplier, getting technical expertise, and working well with me.

I would definitely use The Heating Specialist again. Every person I have interacted with has been friendly and professional, and perhaps most important, competent. This is true from the owner, Thomas, down to the lowest level technicians.

The Heating Specialist has been great each time I have used them. I have used their maintenance service which has been really nice. They check everything and make sure the furnace and AC are working right.

I have used Heating Specialist for several years now at a multi- tenant commercial building in Portland. They designed the mini split installation for my unusual building and installed it perfectly. Since then, I've used them for seasonal maintenance and service for other commercial units. My 22 year old furnace finally gave up in October. I spoke with another company and was quoted a price that sent shock waves through my 72 year old soul. A business friend recommended The Heating Specialists and I am so grateful he did. Not only was the price MUCH better but within 3 days they were at my home installing my new furnace.
