A short time ago I had an emergency! My furnace was shut down immediately by a technician. He said it was totally plugged. He asked who was the last company to inspect the furnace.
This is what led me to Petro. (A home inspection company hired Petro to do the inspection.)
I called Petro and asked for their assistance. They said they can't help me unless I open an account with them.
DO YOU THINK AT THAT MOMENT I WAS THINKING OF ACCOUNTS???
I just needed heat in the house! I had freezing bursting pipes on my mind. It was an emergency for heaven sakes! If they had done a more thorough inspection to include checking for soot buildup, I would not have been in that position. I was livid!!!
I wanted them to take responsibility since they were the last company that inspected it. Their inspection was minimal causing me to inherit a BIG problem. They were not helpful to me at all!

I could not recommend staying away from this company enough. We have been a customer for years and last night received possibly the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. Our oil tank ran low about a week ago. As a result of this we wound up with a clogged Filter/Nozzle. This is a simple fix. We had no heat/hot water for a couple of days but were making due.

We received oil from another company as the prices at Petro were completely outrageous, however were now dealing with the issue above. I called in for service last night and was promptly told that my account had been cancelled. The person I spoke with (Sheila V.) told me that my fiancée had called in months ago and told them that we were moving out, cancelling our account, and having tenants move in. This was news to both of us, as we sat in the cold living room at this address. Despite the fact that this was a clear error on their part they refused to assist us. The original "pitch" was that we needed an account to get service. When I made it clear to them that we never closed our account, they then told us we needed to be signed up for their automatic delivery to receive service. When I told them that I had oil in the tank and could not take a delivery they would not help us. I then gave up, and told them that I would sign up for the automatic delivery (at their ridiculous prices), but could not take any oil at this time.

Once again, the goalposts were moved on me. I was now told that I needed to have a delivery this week or they would not do service. I offered to allow them to deliver 10 gallons, as we couldn't take any more and had been sitting in the cold for days and Sheila basically laughed me off. She told me that, now, unless they could deliver a full tank, because per their estimates based on no factual information of our usage, we "should" be completely empty they would need to deliver a full tank this week or we couldn't receive service. I was, literally, trying SO hard to give this company my business and money, but they wouldn't take it.

This company is a joke. A sham, manipulating numbers and facts to bend customers to their whim. I will happily be taking the business of all properties in my name, current and future, elsewhere

My technician was Josh G. He came to my house twice for service calls. I can’t say enough good things about him. He was very polite and professional and went above and beyond to make sure everything was functioning correctly before he left. What a great person to have representing your company.

We’ve been with Petro since 2018. Always been a happy customer. Even happier tonight after Matt got our boiler running again this afternoon. He was great! Thank you Petro.

If I could give o stars I would. The absolute worst company to use. We would rather freeze to death then use them! Consumer beware of this company!!! We were badgered by Bob Collardo daily once we bought our new home until we signed on with them. Finally did. That was for oil. Then we needed propane for cooking. They refused to deliver until we signed a separate contract for that! Then they said we need to come out and check your stove to make sure it's safe. We said ok. They failed to mention there was a 99.00 fee for that. If you cancel early with them they charge 350.00 to terminate! We finally sold the house. We were owed the last money back for the leftover propane after closing. It took threatening with an attorney to get that money back. Michelle who is in the propane department refuses to answer any calls once your contract is signed..I could go on and on but have said enough
. please don't use this company!

I had the pleasure to have technician Don Blue service our home oil system today. I can’t recommend him enough! He went above and beyond to ensure that our heating issues were addressed and kept me up to date the entire time. Thank you for keeping our family warm!

I'm a decades-long Petro customer and I am totally happy with the company's service, its products and most of all, its wonderful employees. I just recently had a new furnace installed by Petro and things couldn't have gone better! TY for all you do!

SECOND TIME MY HEAT HAS BEEN SHUT OFF WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING. Yes, my account was past due, but I never got a warning phone call, a letter, a email, not so much as a text. To me I think a company I’ve been with 5 years owes me a heads up. Shameful.

Bob Cellardo set me up for failure. I am a new home owner and went with a flyer in the mail for my first oil company. BIG MISTAKE and the sales rep on the phone set me up for auto payment and delivery that he said they would give me a tune up for my system and that I would be in good shape moving forward.

8 months later my tank is close to no fuel and when I call to ask why they tell me I owe $2,000 when I was set up on monthly payment.

When I called Kara the service rep was great but that does not help when Bob "the expert in the industry" set up my plan to put me in a hole owing them money. They offered me a $100 credit as resolve. I am going to be looking for a new oil company as soon as possible.

Bob either had lack of knowledge that an average home uses 700-800 gallons or he deliberately set me up on a plan that will not cover my needs. If I was petro I would look into all the account he set up and if they have past balances you should find a away to alert them ahead of getting to a $2,000 bill that could cripple someone who doesn't have it saved. Luckily I have a savings account for emergencies but my very next call is evaluating vendors.

There should be more concessions when expectations were set poorly and I leaned on the professional for their advice. A sales process should be transparent.

The other negative reviews on here are accurate. This company takes advantage of its customers and does not value their time or business at all. I pay for a service plan that includes an annual tune up. The company has come on an emergency call when my furnace completely broke, (likely due to lack of service) and hasn’t been back in now over 2 years. I have to take time off of work to accommodate for the 4 hour time windows they give when scheduling. My last “service visit” had been scheduled for LAST April. They called day of to cancel and rescheduled to November when, after missing work and waiting at home for another four hours, they cancelled at the end of the time window AGAIN and rescheduled to this April. They blew me off AGAIN today because their technicians apparently had the wrong times. Their communication between the main office and their technicians might as well be nonexistent. Customer service responds to emails with short unhelpful messages and no one from management ever calls to follow up, but they are very happy to take your money month after month for services that you never receive. BUYER BEWARE.

Petro has helped keep my elderly parent's home safe and sound, always on time with deliveries and helping replace aging systems for years now. The Petro team has always been extremely responsive and with reasonable costs. Patient with their many questions and inquiries, and always responsive and kind. New boiler, new tanks, repaired a dangerous CO2 leak in the wee hours of a cold morning on an emergency call... exceptional response. In a sea of less-than-stellar home service providers, I trust this team implicitly.

Denying someone oil because they aren't "customers" even though we were trying to give you Business to have oil delivered but we had to be on some type of subscription plan.

I approached Petro earlier this year for oil delivery and maintenance services for my home. What followed was weeks of hell. After signing a maintenance contract with them, I was pressured into buying an overpriced oil tank which my home didn't need before I could receive oil delivery. After confirming with a third party and eventually Petro that I did not need it, they still didn't deliver oil. I called them weeks in a row to get info on pricing plans and when to expect delivery, but I didn't get the info and never got called back about it when I was told I would be.

At close to two months since first contacting them and still not receiving oil, I terminated the contract (that I paid for) and moved on. Now they are claiming that they used a promotional discount on my maintenance contract that they are "revoking" and are threatening me with collection over $100. They haven't sent me a bill in writing, and hilariously their calls show up as spam on my phone. Petro is the definition of unethical and scummy. To anyone reading this, do not waste your time and money with a company who will spit on your face then tell you to pay for it.

Joe Dias came today for our annual tune-up. We are new customers to Petro. He did a great job, very professional and thorough. Thank So Much~

We signed up with Petro a year ago and were initially satisfied with their delivery and service but encountered no issues. However, due to rising costs and a significant increase in their SmartPay plan, we decided not to renew for the coming year. We received our settlement balance, which we were fully aware of and ready to pay.

The day after canceling our service, their Credit department began calling us daily to demand final payment—despite the balance not being due for another week. When I inquired if we would continue receiving daily calls, the representative, Michael, responded with an inappropriate and dismissive attitude, rudely confirming that the calls would continue. This level of customer service is both unprofessional and inconsiderate.

Be cautious of their "special plans," as they can be misleading. Petro initially offers an attractive monthly payment plan, but when it's time for renewal, they often claim your usage exceeded expectations. This leaves you with a tough choice: pay significantly more than expected (sometimes 2.5 times more) or face an enormous balance if you cancel.

To make matters worse, once you cancel, they waste no time hounding you daily for payment, regardless of the due date. I strongly advise against falling for their offers—they seem great upfront but come with hidden pitfalls.

Won't bring me oil over balance of $200 when it's 14° f outside. Really! Who runs that place, it must be a trumpy bear who needs a trophy.

We were supposed to have a tech come out for noon, we received a call from petro at 1230 that the tech couldn’t make until 3, it is currently 3:45 with no update from petro. I had to get approval to work from home for no reason. This company consistently disappoints.

    EDIT TO ADD...
Petro came today to fill (6 days after when it was supposed to be done). $4.99 a gallon... is INSANITY. Average in our area is about $3.29. Add to their delay and price gouging, let's talk about how they spilled oil on my property, and it got on my dog later on... 3 washes later and it's mostly off but what a hazard for them, my family, and any other wildlife. Attached is a photo. And we are contacting them again as well.

We have had Petro for many years for our home. This past Friday, we were expecting a delivery and they claimed that they could not get to our house due to ice. Our main driveways were both plowed down to the dirt and concrete and were wet with slush, no ice. We were then told they would be out this week. Monday came and phone call saying Tuesday delivery. Tuesday came and nothing but a phone call saying Wednesday. Here it is Wednesday and nothing. Called them and they showed in their notes that it was too icy yesterday. Yesterday? No one attempted yesterday! That was Friday! We have received more snow since and yet again we have been plowed and salted. We have had multiple deliveries by large trucks this whole time with no issues. We are almost out of oil now. Needless to say, after this, we will be switching to a smaller, local company that actually puts in an effort and doesn't lie about the conditions of a driveway where people actually live and travel on it daily.

Technician was neat, professional and was very clear explaining to me about my heating. He was running late. Office called me in a timely manner informing me, which I greatly appreciated.

I recently purchased a home and was converting the oil boiler steam system to heat pumps. It was going to be 4 weeks or so and the temperatures were dropping and my oil near empty. I called asking for the absolute minimum amount of fuel possible.

I was signed up for a subscription service resulting in a second delivery. I was informed they do not offer anything but a subscription service. I explained I am not sure why I would have signed up for said service plan if communicated considering my situation to retrofit. They identified a packet was sent to my home, I admit with the construction it may have been lost. Identified a glitch where I did not receive notice of the second delivery where I could have prevented the issue.

It was a little challenging to connect with someone and have a conversation to resolve the issue. Upon reaching Mike, we had a very professional and polite conversation. Mike committed to discussing internally and kept his word to follow up with me the next day. I appreciate the effort of Mike and Petro to help resolve the issue. Thank you.
