Really grateful for Rick and his team. They saved the day when my AC unit died in the heat of a Texas summer. The AC was already more than 17 years old, and the work of another contractor completing a project at my house damaged it.

I haven't had great experiences with other home repair companies (ie. the water restoration company that damaged my AC!), but Rick is the exception. He came quickly, answered my many, many questions, provided me with a clear estimate, and installed a new HVAC system for a reasonable price. He even installed a temporary window AC unit until we could get the new system installed. He and his team are professional, hard-working, and truly kind (which might be most important!) I can't imagine calling anyone else.

Great service. Rick solved our problem quickly (he had the part needed on his truck). A couple of his techs did an annual tune-up on our HVAC system. Every contact with this local company was professional and courteous. We'll be using Rick's company from here on out.

My A/C unit stopped working, I called Happel and they had a crew out within 2 hours who were able to fix the issue on the spot. Quick and friendly service at a reasonable price, would happily use them again!

Happel put in an entirely new system earlier this year.Good price and we were glad to go into this 108+ degree summer with an efficient system. Like clockwork, they called and set an appointment for 6 month service and cleaning. Today, our drain line unexpectedly clogged up so I called them and Mr. Happel and a tech came out within an hour and had it fixed. You can’t ask for better service than that! Will continue to do business with this company.

They replaced my crawlspace duct work and plenum. Great service, great attention to detail, and great price. Rick is an honest guy who isn't going to try and upsell you on something you don't need. Highly recommend.

We met Rick in 2019 when our 20 year old HVAC system was having a few issues. He advised on ways to prolong its life. Given the age, we ultimately decided to replace the system. Rick did an excellent installation job, giving us different options and explaining pros and cons etc. He comes out 2x per year to service the unit and we’ve had no issues. With this summer’s brutal heat, we did just have capacitor go out. I called Rick and he was there within the hour to fix the problem and get us cooled off again. He is always incredibly responsive and professional, and you can tell he genuinely cares about his customers. I highly recommend him for all things HVAC!

I consider myself lucky to live in the Lake Highlands area so that I can rely on Rick and the guys at Happel Mechanical to service my HVAC system year round. Rick has worked on both our furnace and condenser to keep them going. One winter when our furnace went out in the middle of the night, he came on a Sunday morning to get us back up and running. Rick is also priced competitively and isn't one to try and weasel you into buying something you don't need. We've got an older system, and he hasn't once pressured us to purchase a new one. I highly recommend Happel Mechanical!

I appreciate their personableness being independently owned. No "big box" pressure. Just good, reliable and fair.

I used Happel Mechanical to replace my ancient HVAC system. I had estimates from other companies but Rick's seemed the most honest and fair.

It only took a day after the estimate to accept and set a time for the next week to get it installed, which I thought was quick. Rick and his team arrived on time, were courteous, and kept me in the loop with everything they were doing. They replaced the A/C and furnace and removed my old system (not an easy task!). They also fixed some duct work that turned out I sorely needed, and even though it wasn't part of the estimate Rick gave me options to make sure it wasn't a problem.

The install was quick and I'm already seeing the benefits of the new system. It's like a brand new house! I'll definitely be calling Rick and his team at Happel for all my HVAC needs in the future.

Have been using Rick and Happel Mechanical for years. Our 26 y/o unit finally succumbed. A new unit it was. Rick and team got our new system installed and ready to go quickly and as efficiently as possible. Even cleaned up afterwards. Would definitely recommend.

This review is an honest account of my experience with Happel. It is not intended to target any individual but to provide a clear and sequential explanation of my interaction with the company.

I reached out to Happel on a hot afternoon, with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees in Dallas. Rick answered my call and informed me of a 250 dollars emergency fee for same-day service, which I agreed to. Later that day, a technician named Sherbert or Trevor -apologies if I’m confusing his name - arrived. He informed me that my unit was low on R-410A coolant and needed a refill at 250 dollars per pound. He also emphasized the importance of scheduling a follow-up visit to check for potential leaks in the coils. I want to take a moment to commend the technician for his professionalism during the visit.

Now, to the main points of my dissatisfaction:

Cost of Coolant: Initially, the technician suggested using five pounds of coolant, but after discussing the cost per pound which, thankfully, I asked about, we agreed on two pounds to get us through until the follow-up visit. He quoted me 225 dollars for the first pound and 200 dollars for the second. However, I later found that the market price for R-410A typically ranges from 6 to 8 dollars per pound. For example, refrigerantscenter-dot-com offers a 35-pound tank of R-410A for 250 dollars, which comes out to just 7.14 dollars per pound. By comparison, I was charged an average of 212.50 dollars per pound–a markup of approximately 2876.68%. While I understand that Happel needs to make a profit, this level of markup feels excessive.

Lack of Follow-Up: On August 13th and again on August 18th, I contacted Rick via the same number we initially communicated on, inquiring about the follow-up visit that the technician recommended. Unfortunately, I never received a response. Despite reaching out to give them more business and under the direct guidance of the technician, there was no follow-up from the company. The technician mentioned that their office would contact me to schedule the follow-up, but that never happened.

This review is not intended to discourage anyone from using Happel’s services but rather to provide a fair and transparent account of my experience. It left me questioning whether the suggested follow-up was genuinely necessary or simply an attempt to generate additional work. Upon reviewing some of the lowest-rated Google reviews for Happel, I noticed that others have reported similar concerns. For instance, Daniel Choi mentioned a lack of response to texts and calls, which mirrors my experience. Additionally, Robert N. shared a troubling account where he was charged 600 dollars for adding refrigerant coolant, and the technician informed him that his inside unit had a leak and needed to be replaced. Connecting the dots here - Robert’s experience closely aligns with mine–being charged hundreds of dollars for coolant and being told there was a leak (or potential of leak, in my case). While I can’t speak to the specifics of their situations, their reviews reflect issues similar to those I encountered, raising questions about the consistency of these practices.

Our AC stopped working after hours on a hot July afternoon. Rick was at our house within the hour to assess and fix our system. I highly recommend him! He is a true professional and provided us excellent service! We will be using him for routine maintenance moving forward.

Good and professional work. I needed to diagnose the issue and had techs coming beforehand. Most of them weren't sure what to do or how to approach the problem. Rick and his team went right away and took all the measurements and were able to identify a couple of issues. They educated me on the topic. Very friendly. You can see that they genuinely interested in helping people. Very reasonably priced. Would use their service again.

There is no other A/C + Heating company I will use. Hands down the best, most genuine, and transparent company I have ever worked with. They were able to locate problems multiple other companies completely missed.
