HVAC reviews in Durham, North Carolina

I would give 10 stars if I could. Chris and his team are professional
-
A rarity in today's world - a company that is responsive, helpful and not looking to take advantage of the customer. Big thanks to Glyn (and Laura)! Highly recommend.
-
They fixed heating unit OK. But during the work an employee walked through and destroyed my back door screen. Could not be fixed. So Chris promised to replace it. After several weeks of not replacing or even communicating about it, I am forced to replace it. What a disappointment.
-
Chris came to save me when my HVAC went out at 7pm! He was so nice & quickly diagnosed & fixed the issue. R & C will be my go-to for heating & air from now on!
-
Laura and the service tech she sent to look at our HVAC system were great! We felt very comfortable throughout the entire process. It's always nerve wracking to look for new service providers but this company is reasonably priced and trustworthy.
-
We are very satisfied with the work Chris and his team does. His prices are very reasonable. Our HVAC unit stopped working on Sunday. I called Chris and within minutes received a call back. He was able to find and install a new unit in no time. I highly recommend him.

R&C is awesome. I love being able to support a local business and can do so while-heartedly in this case. Because it is a small company you may not get the midnight on a Sunday service that is possible with larger companies - but when they are able to get you in Monday you’ll know it’s done correctly. Chris walked me through every step so I had a better understanding of how my unit works, and was realistic with repairs vs. longevity of the unit. His pricing was reasonable and his demeanor professional. Will 100% utilize their services in the future and you should too!
-
Chris and his staff were all excellent. I was given a reasonable price on a complete replacement of AC and gas furnace that did not try to upsell to features I didn't need. In spite of being in a somewhat urgent situation with no cooling during a heat wave, there was no effort to price gouge. But the most impressive aspect of my dealings with the company occurred when there was a glitch in recovering the $350 Duke Energy rebate that was expected: Chris took full responsibility and reimbursed me out of his own account. Highly recommend.

Awesome Company with great values. I will use them if needed in the future and highly recommend them (From 2019)

R&C has been pur go to for years. They worked with Mom and Dad to find a system they could afford and installed the system in 2009.
When Mom passed (7/2019) and Dad had Pneumonia and was coming home they worked us in and got the AC running before Daddy was released from the hosp.
Fast forward to this week with the extreme cold headed in they worked me in on my day off and got my heat working cheaper than anyone else would have even made a service call.
They are locally owned and take pride in their work. They are family oriented and really care. You can feel the love from the first call to when they arrive at your home. Just super people with heart and morals. -
Tip - call the office to schedule because the online appointment tool on their website doesn’t work.
Yesterday was my third time calling R&C for service - once for my old workplace and twice for my own home. I feel lucky to have found them - in every instance they’ve been quick to get me on the calendar (yesterday Glen arrived within 30 minutes of my call to the office!). They replaced the condensation pump on my home HVAC and a very sketchy old rig-up of a failed capacitor on my outdoor condenser unit. I’ll be in touch with them when I’m ready to replace my home system. At my workplace, they repaired some very old overhead gas heaters in our warehouse. I know I’m getting honest, reliable work when I call them. Many thanks to Laura, Glen, and Chris! -
I really enjoyed Working with Chris at R&C, it’s really great to know that your HVAC system is installed by people who care and communicate clearly. They even were able to catch an electrical mistake made by my electrician (1Five3 Electric) that could’ve destroyed everything. Thanks again!

I can't say enough good things about R&C Services Heating and Cooling! After struggling with a problematic Daikin AC unit and getting nowhere with several other companies, I finally found a true gem in Chris, the owner. From the start, Chris was not only incredibly knowledgeable but also wonderfully patient and downright hilarious, which made the whole process so much more pleasant.
Chris took the time to thoroughly diagnose the issue with our AC system, something others seemed to overlook or rush through. He didn’t just fix the problem; he made sure everything was set up correctly and followed up diligently. When a minor error popped up later, he didn’t hesitate to come back and make things right.
What really stood out was his genuine care for our situation. Chris looked out for affordable solutions and avoided unnecessary costs, showing a refreshing level of integrity and commitment to customer satisfaction. If you’re looking for someone who combines expertise with excellent customer service, R&C Heating and Cooling, and Chris in particular, is your go-to choice. Highly recommend! -
Glyn and Laura have been helping us out since we became homeowners in 2018! They have repaired and serviced our old AC unit, replaced it when it died, and just today fixed our heat pump before temps dropped below freezing. They are fair, kind, extremely responsive, and great at their jobs. Highly recommend R&C Services!

Chris and his team have worked on my Heating and AC units for over 15 years now. It's a great feeling to know when you dial R & C Services for help you can trust Chris will give you a more than fair price and provide outstanding service. Last Friday afternoon we discovered a gas leak that my wife was fortunate to survive. I called and explained to Glenn(technician) what happened. He assured me someone would be out first thing in the morning to fix the problem. I highly recommend R & C Services.

This is a dispatching service. They can honor their contractors work. They sent out Denham Contractors to repair my furnace. It worked about 20 minutes after 2 days to repair. I have been trying for 10 days to get in touch with someone and they are not returning my calls. I have paid them for services because I thought they had completed the job. I would not recommend this service or these dispatchers or contractors.

Sharing my experience here as well, in case someone is confused as to which location is Eco Green Air.
2025 UPDATE: We hired a different company, Bowman Heating & Cooling, to fix the problem. I had three independent proposals, and they all said the same thing: insulation is good, the unit is OK but maybe underpowered, but the ductwork Eco-Green Air installed was far too large and far too long, with too many splits, for the unit and the space, and so air was barely moving. Imagine blowing through a large PVC pipe versus blowing through a small straw, they said. Bowman put in 8-inch round ductwork, did not need to replace the unit, did not need to tweak insulation and the upstairs stays much cooler now. We then happily hired Bowman to then install a new unit for our main floor during a home renovation, and everything is working wonderfully.
7/11/2024 REPLY TO OWNER: No. I shared with you documentation that Alan recommended R38 and that I upgraded our attic to R38... you never replied. And no, the service call you did did not improve the system meaningfully. I shared data with you weeks ago showing our upstairs at 76 degrees in the morning despite blasting 66 on high 24/7. You're publicly gaslighting me. If you buy a business and benefit from its past 5-star reviews, you'll have to address the 1-stars. I tried addressing this with previous owner, which I showed you also. And Alan worked with past & current owners. Your reply here is disingenuous, contradicts what I've shared with you, and shows future customers what new ownership will do in a dispute: argue rather than listen. All that I asked is you do what you said you would: load calc to assess situation. I'll get it and share the results, and happily remove this if there error is in fact mine.
6/27/2024 UPDATE: Owner promised a load calculation at his expense in April to investigate. This did not happen: I paid $400 for a service call & they refilled refrigerant, which had negligible impact. No load calc. As I've documented to the owner this week, our upstairs is 77 degrees at 10pm despite being on full blast at 66-degrees 24/7. This is his definition of "we have engaged in a manner that has improved the issues you were having." He is refusing to follow-through on that promise nor any further discussion until I remove this review.
He also told me that I installed the incorrect insulation and the error is mine, but my email thread with them and the insulation installer shows I originally updated our attic insulation to what they told me to get. Pointing this out did not sway him to reconsider his perspective.
I hope to resolve this. I would remove the negative reviews, but it wasn't until I posted a negative review that they replied to my request to discuss the inadequacy of this system at all. I hate to be this difficult. For now, we're at a standstill.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
Sold me a whole-house series of mini split units, both ducted and ductless, for our 1970s split-level home, to replace the entire heating & cooling system during a renovation.
The DAY they finished the job, Alan said "I never liked that unit in your attic, it's underpowered." I was never told there was going to be a power issue.
He was right. Our upstairs can NOT get cool in the summer, despite updated insulation per their requirements, and running all A/Cs throughout the house 24/7.
I have no idea why they sold & installed this.
That was $20,000 and we've had to purchase window units for anyone to be able to sleep upstairs (see the photo). I expect this to hurt our home's resale value substantially.
I did not insist on using mini splits. I was interested, but also got quotes on zoned central systems. This has been a huge & costly mistake.
They assured me the would follow-up to help address the issue... six months ago. I keep contacting Henry. Nothing.
The most recent service they did, they re-assembled a wall mini split incorrectly, causing water to drip. So I skipped a second day of work for them to come fix it.
Thanks Eco-Green Air. -
I have used Eco Green Air several times now, most recently today! I reached out to the owner last night letting him know my downstairs AC unit was blowing air but was blowing WARM air. He has someone out today (a Sunday) and quickly fixed my issue. Their team has ALWAYS come out quickly whenever I have needed them and I'm very grateful. Today would have been miserable without my AC. Thanks Eco Green!

Just calling and getting information was a pleasant experience.
-
They have gone above expectations to repair our heat pump.
-
We've been loyal customers for decades. They take excellent care of us.

Called that morning, they were here before lunch. Workers had to go pick up a piece. Came back and fixed it. Great people to call when you need heat or air!!!
